2. Xbox 1 - Microsoft
Microsoft released the xbox one in November of 2013. It is the third
console in the xbox family and is the successor to the Xbox 360. It
was announced in May 2013 and is the first console to be released in
China. Its main competitors are the PS4 from Sony and Nintendos Wii
U which both are similar consoles to the Xbox one.
It is in the 8th generation of consoles and runs off a custom operating
system developed specifically for the Xbox one. Upon release it
received mostly positive feedback for its controller design,
multimedia features and voice navigation. However it received some
negative criticism for running games at a technically lower graphical
level than the PS4.
3. Ps4 - Sony
The PlayStation 4, or PS4, was released in November of 2013 as a
successor to the PlayStation 3. Its main competitors are Nintedo’s Wii
U and Microsoft’s Xbox one. The reception of the console was
generally positive with many people praising Sony and the
development team for its unique design and stunning visuals.
The controller design for the PlayStation 4 has been praised as being
simple but effective with the design only changing slightly from the
PS3. By the end of 2016, around 53 million consoles had been sold
with more than 57 million shipped worldwide. PlayStation, in the
future, have announced and are working on a VR headset for the
console which will cost around $550 for the whole complete set.
4. Wii U - Nintendo
The next generation of consoles brought along the Wii
U from Nintendo. It was released in November of 2012
and competes with the Xbox one and PlayStation 4. It is
the first Nintendo console to support HD graphics and
the controllers feature a gamepad and touchscreen
display.
