Is There Room on the Bus
1.
2. Is there room on the bus
The visual styling of the book is very bright and colorful. This appears to have a hand drawn cartoon style to
the book as well. This appears to have a spacing within the images where they had pre-arranged text to go into.
The text is mainly following the pictures throughout the book and is always within the same page as some of
the drawings. Some of the text follows the image for example as the bus moves down a hill and the words do
the same following the route of the bus. Although some of the text has there own white blank sections of the
page in order to get the most clarity out of them.
The font appears to have a lot of serif elements to it and is very easy to read due to the relatively chunky text
size and how simplistic the font is shown, Due to the nice amount of tracking and leading between the letters
and each line within the book.
The author of this book is Helen piers and the books illustrator is Hannah Giffard as well as being published by
Francis Lincoln’s children's books.
The amount of pages within this book is at 36 pages and they have a dimension of this book are 21.5 x 27cm.
3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The visual styling to this book seems very simplistic and shows very plain pages with not much filling of the
page.
As for the text it shows again elements of serif throughout the whole book and because they quite often make
a white background for the text it appears very clear. Along with the tight spacing between the letters and the
quite significant gap between the words and lines makes reading it very easy to do. This is made easier by the
fact that if the image would overrun the text they have stopped the image and left a section of the page with
this sort of ripped looking effect so they have space to put in the text.
The author of the book is called Eric Carle (who also did the illustrations for the book) and is published by
puffin.
This book has all of 26 pages and has the dimensions of 12.8 x 1.2 x 18.1 cm.
4. Dear Zoo
The style is again very simplistic and is quite calm in terms of what is going on on the page. This is a very
cartoon book that appears hand drawn.
In terms of the image and text on the page it shows that because there is only ever one picture that in on the
page E.G a box. There is always room for text and it is mainly used at the bottom of the page.
With the font there is again serif within it and is again very easy to read but this time it because of the very
simplistic font and how they have used size to make the reading of the book a very simple task. This will make it
not only simple for the parents to read but because of the large font size will help the children overlooking to
maybe recognize the look of the words and learn them that way.
The book is written by Rod Campbell, who is also the illustrator. and is published by Macmillan children's
books.
There are only 18 pages to this book and the dimensions for it are 17.7 x 1.4 x 17.7 cm.
