Transforming to a digital business is a key theme across global communications
service providers and many industry leaders are pursuing a new paradigm by
leveraging agile new technologies, systems, and services to enable this
transformation. This newsletter showcases how the telecommunications industry

Microsoft acquires ADRM Software, leader in large-scale,
industry-specific data models

Data and AI are the foundation of modern technological innovation, yet businesses today
struggle to unlock the full value data has to offer as fragmented data estates hinder digital
transformation. Without a comprehensive and integrated view of their data, companies
are at a competitive disadvantage, which hinders digital adoption and data-driven
innovation.
Today, we are excited to announce the acquisition of ADRM Software, a leading provider
of large-scale industry data models (including several telecommunications industry data
models), which are used by large companies worldwide as information blueprints. ADRM’s
robust industry data models have been built and refined over decades for business-critical
analytics.
An industry data model enables organizations to more holistically capture and define
business concepts, refine and integrate processes, and build interoperability in their
ecosystem. According to Gartner, “Data models are foundational for business. They
undergird wide-ranging initiatives and permanent programs, such as data quality, data
lineage and data governance.” But companies today are implementing data modeling on
a fragmented basis, resulting in a disparate data estate that is incapable of supporting the
kinds of digital transformation required today.

3. Combining comprehensive industry models from ADRM with limitless storage and
compute from Azure allows for the creation of the intelligent data lake where data

service for customer relations, provides a simple, direct, and personalized connection

Microsoft, using a combination of intelligent technologies in the Azure environment.
Collectively, users have accessed it more than 93.4 million times.
The service allows customers to interact with products by speaking naturally and
obtaining intelligent responses. With a simple voice command, Aura can be prompted to
check a customer’s current balance, the amount of internet data available, plan
information, or bills. The service can also recharge account balances and perform other
functions. The technology works on more than 20 channels and handles more than 15
million requests per month, with no wait time. "Telefónica Brazil's customers have an
option for faster, quality service,” says Fabricio Bindi, Director of Customer Insights and AI
at Telefónica Brazil.

Telecom Italia (TIM) is a leader in the telecommunications sector. In recent years, the
Italian company has undergone a transformation, expanding its entertainment services to
include TIMVISION, an on-demand platform for movies and TV; TIMMUSIC, which offers
musical content; and TIMGAMES, which offers streaming of video games.
The company had been searching for technology that would help provide insights into
what customers crave. The ideal solution would combine information regarding the way
users interacted with the various TIM platforms, providing the company with a better
understanding of its customers’ interests. The right insights would empower TIM to offer
users custom-designed services, all while meeting its high standards for security and
confidentiality.
To make that vision a reality, TIM migrated its Windows-based data-analytics services to
the Microsoft Azure platform. By taking advantage of the power of cloud computing, the
company can now get the most out of its data, using it to provide better, more insightful
services.
The first step in this evolution involved renewing the cloud orchestration of the
TIMVISION platform. Through Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), TIM deployed a highly
scalable infrastructure that resulted in a significant reduction in management costs.
TIM uses cloud-based services such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft
SQL Server for the simple, intelligent analysis of large masses of data in any format,
without the need to manage an extremely complex infrastructure. Moreover, TIM
transforms information from all its systems into insights using Microsoft Power BI. Now,
with intuitive graphics, TIM uses strategic insights to make faster, smarter business
decisions.
