The Wazir Khan Mosque is famous for its extensive glazed ceramic ware work. The mosque took
seven years to build, and started in 1634 AD, during the rule of Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. This
mosque is described as “a mole on the cheek of Lahore”. The name Wazir Khan means “minister”
title given to mosque, as it was built by Hakim Shaikh IIm-ud- din Ansari, a native of Chiniot, who
rose to be the court physician to the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and governor of Lahore. The
mosque is located in the inner city of the Lahore and contains some of the best examples of Qashani
tile work from the Mughal period.
The Data Darbar houses the remains of a Sufi saint, Abul Hassan Ali Hajvery who lived on the site in
the 11 th century. This is one of the oldest Muslims shrines in the South Asia. The shrine was
originally built by the Ghaznavi King Sultan Zakiruddin Ibrahim in the late 11 th century. Muslims and
non-Muslims for the past many centuries visiting the tomb in search of his blessings and everyone is
welcomed in Data Durbar despite of any religion.
The Badshahi Mosque – in Lahore was built by Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal Emperor between 1671
and 1673. This is the fifth largest mosque in the world and second largest in the Pakistan. This
mosque is the most famous landmark and a major tourist attraction. Many Muslim tourists visit this
mosque and offer prayers on regular basis.
The Moti Masjid means “the Pearl Mosque” was built in 17 th century inside the Lahore Fort. This
white marble building was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This small mosque is located on
the western side of the Lahore Fort.
The Mosque of Mariyam Zamani Begum, also known as Begum Shahi Mosque, is one of the Lahore’s
first mosques located in the Walled city of Lahore. This was built by Emperor Jahangir, in the honour
of his mother Begum Mariyam-uz- Zamani.
There are many other historic places to visit in Lahore city. Many visitors travel to Lahore by
