Reload- I chose name of one of the
apps/websites. I chose this name as users will
be reloading with all the latest news in the
music industry.
The logo of the app will only be seen on the app store and
on the sign up page. This is because users may dis like it if
the logo is literally everywhere. I will have the name of the
app at the top of the page all the time so whenever a
screenshot of the app is shared, people will know what to
search in order to find it.
I would update the app on a regular basis as
there are always ways to improve. Most
updates will be just for maintenance, but other
updates will bring new features, which makes
the users happy and may bring in new users.
Type of content
This app will be used for the general
public to stream and share music
with anyone on they have contact
details for.
Sound Owl- I chose this name for
another app or website that will more so
focus on audio and not other media. I
chose an Owl in particular to represent
the app as Owls have very good hearing.
The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40.
This is because anyone can make an account,
therefor there will be content for everybody,
meaning I am able to aim for a very large target
audience. It is a free app with no paid
subscriptions, therefor it is easily accessible for
everyone. However, people in the older
generation may want to stick with their current
music app and not make a change
3. Purpose of the product
I am going to create a music streaming and sharing app named Sound Owl. The app
will allow users to stream music and share clips of the song or the entire song with
friends, through the app or through other apps. This allows music to be shared
instantly amongst friends as links are shared, so all it takes is a click of a button.
This also means that our user amount will gradually increase due to word of mouth.
Users can upload their own music, but will have to pay for this feature.
This is an app for the people who don’t want to pay monthly subscriptions. The app
will be completely free to use, however will run ads. These ads will be the source of
revenue, users can also pay to remove advertisements if they really want to. In
many aspects, it is similar to streaming services such as Spotify and Apple music,
with additional features that it make it more of a social network than a music
streaming service.
4. Colour scheme and Logo
My colour scheme will consist of Grey, Red and White. Different shades of these
colours will be used in order to empathies the apps contents and functionality. My
logo will lighter, more vibrant colours in order to catch the users eyes when
scrolling through the app store. The app is developed for all genres of music, but
currently the most popular music genre is Rap and Hip Hop, therefor I am using
darker reds and greys as they reflect that genre. Therefor, these colours will attract
the largest target audience from people who like the Rap or Hip Hop genre of
music.
5. Target audience
The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40. This is because anyone can make an
account, therefor there will be content for everybody, meaning I am able to aim for
a very large target audience. It is a free app with no paid subscriptions, therefor it
is easily accessible for everyone. However, people in the older generation may want
to stick with their current music app and not make a change.
According to Katz Uses and Gratifications theory, users will experience personal
identification with our app as they will refer to it in everyday life and use it to
express themselves to other users. The app will also inform and educate users with
new music that has been shared by others.
The app will cater to the socio-economic needs of people in Middle class (B) and
lower working class (C1), this is because the app is free with no subscription, so it is
a good alternative to Spotify for example as it is accessible for everybody
everywhere.
6. Target audience continued
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs my app will cater to the psychological
needs. The app will give a feeling of belongingness and love needs to some users,
as they are surrounding themselves with people with similar interests and a love
for music. Second to this, as the app allows you to upload your own music, it can fill
the esteem needs of users as they may feel accomplished after they see people
listening to their music.
According to Hartley’s Theory, the general target age range for my app is 12-40.
This is because anyone can make an account, therefor there will be content for
everybody, meaning I am able to aim for a very large target. Secondly, all genres of
music are on the app, so there is something for everyone. Therefor I am able to
target a large age range.
10. How the Product meets the needs of the
Target Audience & Synergy with similar Apps.
Meeting the needs of my target audience:
My target audience is people between the age of 12 and 40. I have selected such a large age range
as there will be every genre on my app. Therefor, it appeals to many ages. The fact that it is a free
app that does not require a subscription makes it available to everybody as not everyone can afford
to pay a subscription every month, for example many of the younger audience will not have a job,
therefor cant pay for subscriptions. Furthermore, it would meet the need of having a service in
which one can store all of their music and share with friends. The app will also help people find new
music due to the others sharing their music.
Synergy with other apps
The app is similar to Spotify and Apple music as it is a music streaming app. This is because my app
has the same main feature as the other two apps I have mentioned, to be able to steam endless
amounts of music whenever you want. However, my secondary feature makes it similar to Twitter
with the ability to easily share music. This is a feature that no other music streaming app offers,
therefor more users are likely to download Sound Owl.
11. Conclusion
In conclusion, I started LO2 with two ideas for apps/websites. Throughout the LO, I
compared my two ideas to find the one that was best. My two ideas for names
were Reload and Sound Owl. I decided to go with Sound Owl as Owl’s are one of
the best animals at hearing. Therefor I decided to use the Owl as my ‘mascot’ and
essentially the face of my app. The app will allow users to stream music and share
clips of the song or the entire song with friends, through the app or through other
apps. This allows music to be shared instantly amongst friends as links are shared,
so all it takes is a click of a button. I have also made some early drafts of what the
app’s Login page, the music page and the icon will look. These are not the final
products yet. I have also identified who my target audience are in this learning
objective.
