Student Strengths And Weaknesses
All students have different strengths and weaknesses. Some might get distracted by the slightest
little glint of a phone screen, but others may have intense focus all the time. This is just one
example of the diversity of students' strengths and weaknesses in school. It's important for
students to analyze their strengths and weaknesses in order to become better learners. I have
analyzed my strengths and weaknesses as a student, and compared the to the ideas of Conley in
"Student Ownership as a Key Component of College Readiness". As a student, over my entire
school career, I have discovered that I can focus when there's a deadline rapidly approaching and a
grade on the line, but when there are neither of those things, I have a bad habit of procrastination.
As a learner I have many weaknesses. One of the most prominent is my habit of procrastination. I
tend to procrastinate a lot on school assignments, purely because I want to do other things. If I want
to do something else that I find fun, it's difficult to make myself do homework instead. This habit of
procrastination often leads to me cramming to finish an assignment the day before a big assignment
is due. On the flip side, if what I'm learning is fun or interesting, I have no problem with
procrastination. On a similar note, If I am working on an assignment that I don't find interesting, it
will take me an extremely long time to get it done, unless I have some sort of pressure like a time
constraint. Conley talks about

Plato's The Apology Essay
"How you have felt, O men of Athens, at hearing the speeches of my accusers, I cannot tell; but I
know that their persuasive words almost made me forget who I was – such was the effect of them;
and yet they have hardly spoken a word of truth." – Plato "The Apology"
In "The Apology," Socrates represents himself in his own trial. He boldly questions the morality of
the people of court. In this report, I will be analyzing portions of "The Apology" in order to reveal the
intellectuality of this text within this time frame. I will only discuss bits of "The Apology" on
account that it is a lengthy piece. However, before discussing the speech it is important to set the
scene. Socrates was born in 469 B.C.E. and lived to 399 B.C.E. (Nails, 2014)....show more content...
Under this regime was Socrates sentenced to death.
"The Apology" allows not only for us to conceptualize Socrates' trail, but it also provides a
glimpse of the way the government was set up in this time. In "The Apology," Socrates is
summoned to a trail based on accusations convicting him of impious beliefs and corrupting the
youth. Socrates, first, addresses the charges of corrupting the youth. He begins by stating that
Meletus could care less about matters concerning children. He, then, inquires if Meletus
"...think[s] a great deal about the improvement of youth..." (Lawall, 786). To this Meletus
responds with an earnest answer. "Yes, I do" (p.786). Socrates responds with a sequence of
questions regarding Meletus's view of the "improver" of children. Meletus answers these
questions with simple answers; he names the laws judges, senators, and "the members of the
assembly." (p. 786) To each of Meletus's responses, Socrates has an antithetical reply. Socrates
generally refutes this charge by comparing the care of horses to the care of children. "Does one
man do them [horses] harm and all the world good? Is not the exact opposite the truth?" (786). He
goes on to say that the world would be a much better place if all but one person were virtuous. He,
then, asks if it is better to live among the good or the bad. Meletus agrees that it is better to live
among the good (786). Socrates asks if his corruption of the children is intentional or unintentional

Five -Year Plan Essay
Five–Year Career Development Plan
MGT/431
March 24, 2011
When developing a good five year career plan I had to ask myself where, I wanted to be in five
years. This question would be critical for my future. When I was in school in thought, I knew my
career path. I was convince I was going to become a nurse. As years past, I found myself moving
away from nursing and interested in teaching. However, my transition would not be as smooth as
once believed. According to Career vision, (2004), "for some people, the five year career plan may
be a plan to prepare them for another job, for others it may be a plan to develop skills used in their
current job. The five year plan is very much an individual plan, and is to be used solely...show more

I am repeatedly informing my older child of how important it is to go to college and obtain his
degree. When I complete my studies I will be able to show him the journey was not easy but
obtainable. Another goal for my five–year plan is to be debt free. While in college I have many
student loans that I need to pay off. I want to completely pay off my student loan debt in five
years or less. I believe this task can be accomplished if I stay to my budget plan. The benefits of
paying the loans off early would help me with interest rates, and it will also help me increase my
credit score, which will help me when it is time to open my husband and me restaurant.
Promotional Opportunities Upon completion of my bachelor's degree program, I will try to seek
employment with my hospital human resources department as a generalist. I currently work with
staffing and with a bachelor's degree in management; I believe I would be ready to move up to a
higher level. The transition from staffing to human resources I believe would be smooth, because I
am familiar with the hiring process and I am also knowledgeable with dealing with outside staffing
agencies.
Career Management According to Career vision (2004), "Career management is the lifelong process
of investing resources to achieve your career goals. Career management is not a singular event but a

Creative Writing: Fear of the Unknown
Dark black surroundings around me. Blindness is a natural occurrence after the sun descends. Senses
are heightened which sparks the imagination to soar. A moment of time when things of legend
becomes a reality and self–doubt are unveiled. In the darkness the line between fact and fiction blur.
Sounds, fears, and intuition are the elements that rule when light does not exist.
Things that pop and crack populate the house. Hearing sounds in the middle of the night that send
chills down my spine. A sense of alertness occurs when standing there frozen, waiting, and thinking,
"What could it be?" Waiting for the next noise or ignition of thought that makes the heart beat a
little faster and breathe slower to limit the noises made in the darkness. When the lights go out you
ultimately assume the worst scenarios for example a burglar, paranormal activities, or critters in the
night. Even the tick tock of the clock seems like a loud bass drum in the vicinity of catching another
sound to reassure that the noise was not something or someone. I often ask myself "Why me?"
questioning why I have these fears. I remember how watching horror movies generated fear even at
the young age of eight. Movies such as Puppet Master, IT, and Children of the Corn come tomind as
well as the infamous Chucky movies. In those movies only bad things happened at night. Although
a few people are comfortable in the dark most people visit the dark in a place of fear. The biggest
fear is fear of the unknown

Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the
Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that
the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by
millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was
originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes
that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be
used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks
discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content...
The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted.
Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches
the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go
through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley
knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals
and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character,
personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write.
On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most
basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather
that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This
allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays.
Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they
have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic
relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so,"
(232). Juxtaposition is not

Many timeless novels have impacts on our everyday culture, not only as a book, but also through
music or movies. Many popular novels have multiple adaptations, which shape how we approach
their interpretation, in ways we may never even notice. In some films, humans are depicted as
monsters, whether through their actions, or through the thoughts of other beings. In these films we
find issues with our own society, and in turn see ourselves as monsters, and look for ways we can
change, for the better. One particular novel that influences this side of Hollywood is Mary Shelley's
"Frankenstein". The ways Frankenstein influences pop culture can be seen in science fiction films in
which humans are depicted as monster, and "monsters" are seen as...show more content...
You cannot be trusted with your own survival."
Influences from Frankenstein are evident in I,Robot, in the ways that humans respond when the
power of the created becomes greater than that of the creator.
"'Remember, thou hast made me more powerful than thyself; my height is superior to thine, my
joints more supple. But I will not be tempted to set myself in opposition to thee.'" In this quote,
Frankenstein realizes, through an argument made by the beast, that the monsters power has become
greater than his own, when they finally come face to face for their first quarrel since the monster's
animation. The monster uses intelligent language as well as quick wit which, when paired with his
already superhuman stature, causes him to tower over Frankenstein in height, wisdom, and
humanity. When Victor realizes that he is inferior to his creation he responds rashly, saying things
like, "'Abhorred monster! fiend that thou art!"' and "'you reproach me with your creation; come one,
then, that I may extinguish the spark which I so negligently bestowed!"' These responses show a
pattern of childishness as well as a strong tendency to resort to violence inherent in the human race.
In I,Robot, when the robots revolt, and take to the streets controlling the humans, mobs begin to
form, and the humans fight back with chains, baseball bats, and whatever else they can against an
enemy that is obviously superior. In a confrontation, one

How Did English Evolve
I totally agreed Allison. To be literate in the western world is imperative as our society has evolved
to require this specific knowledge and understanding (Gee & Hayes, 2011). As you state the need to
read and write within the Piraha tribes is non–existent due to their remote surroundings and simple
way of life. The ever growing importance to be able to read and write is certainly apparent in
modern society. The fact is to be literate promotes independence in adulthood through possible
employment, increasing the chance of further education, simply being able to write a shopping list
or reading instructions of how to take medication. I also found the YouTube clip regarding 'How did
English evolve? fascinating and how different countries and

Five Of My Best Half Page Writings
Five of my best half page writings: And the strange noise grows louder The sound says enough is
enough. You have to find a solution to what you want. The goals stuck in my head are going to
eat me up if I don't accomplish them. These strange noises grow from whispers to screams and are
constantly in my mind. What they demand is my intentions be on a different level, thriving for
success, accomplishing my goals, and finally reaching the top. They tell me I'm different, and I
believe them, but I need the rest of the world to hear it from them and feel it too. I will try not to

James Paul Gee's What Is Literacy
If Gee's "What is Literacy" were a boat, we'd all be bailing water.
In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay "What is Literacy" written by Linguist
James Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned skills
to provide a 'useful' definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however,
Gee must educate the reader on various definitions, idea and numerous theories in an effort to
provide support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he
makes. It is my belief that while Gee is eventually able to turn the reader to his way of thinking, he
is not able to as eloquently as he would like. In fact, upon closer examination, I...show more content...
In fact, I am so perplexed by this ultimately simple definition that I read and re–read the definition
again and again trying to make sense of the words on the page and wondering if this has all been
an effort in futility. Even Gee himself seems dissatisfied with the definition he has provided as he
immediately adds the adjectives "dominant" and "powerful" as a means to better express the
meaning of the definition he has provided in the very next sentences. While I acknowledge that for
purpose of this essay Gee's definition may offer up a viable definition to support his arguments, it is
by no means a 'useful' or working definition of the word anywhere

My Writing Class Analysis
Writing, in terms of school work (especially considering essays, prompts, and anything that
somehow constricts freedom of thoughts or ideas in any way), does not come natural to me.
Writing is hard, no matter what kind of writing it is, but writing papers is especially hard. Some
people would choose, outside of forced schoolwork, to write essays and papers and prompts. I do
not choose to do such, as many of them may not make much sense. For me, writing short stories or
poems or longer short stories (novellas?) comes natural to me. They are free, not necessarily bound
by constrictions from a school assignment. But, as prompted, this reflection comes into play with the
writing skills used in an English class. I am hoping through this class to make my essay writing (and

In the fifth grade, I learned the five–paragraph structure. As I continued through the grades, it was
more of an expectation to use that specific structure for essays or large works. In tenth grade, I tried
to veer away from the structure, but I have found that my essays always tend to come back to this
structure (not so much the five–paragraph structure, but an introduction paragraph, body paragraphs,
and a conclusion that reiterates the thesis). As a writer and a reader, I know this becomes very dull
very quickly. In a deeper layer of the five–paragraph essay, I have found that transitions between
paragraphs has always been a weakness of mine. Being able to flow from one paragraph to
another is more advanced, perhaps, but it would seem that at such a level as high school writing, it
would be expected that the paragraphs at least make sense in the order that they are presented. This
is not always the case in my writing. I tend to assume that the connection I make in my head is
portrayed in my words or automatically known, when in fact it is most likely a very complicated
connection on my part that no one else is bound to

An Assignment On An Endangered Species
One of the very first writing assignments I had was to write a five page essay on an endangered
species. Ultimately, this project was going to determine my final grade for this class for the
semester because it was the last semester and my Environmental Science teacher, Mrs. Capp, had
intentionally made it to where this project was going to be worth 2 test grades, and only gave us
one test before she had made the project due. She was the kind of teacher that would tell you
what she was thinking and she didn't care if you liked her or not. She was very straight forward
about everything. Although Mrs. Capp had actually had given this project out at the beginning of
the year, she knew that all her students would procrastinate and do it close to last minute. Which,
coincidentally, I happened to be one of those kids that waited. I came into this class late but around
maybe the third week of school she had everybody in her classes pick an animal to write about that
was on the endangered species list, I chose the Leatherback Sea Turtle. The project had to consist of
in text citations, some sort of visual aid like a poster board or a power point, it had to be presented
in front of the class and of course the written five page paper. This class was entirely too easy for me,
I was forced to take this class because I wasn't showing as much work ethic in my former Chemistry
class as my teacher would have liked, so he took me out of his class, but as I still needed a science to

The Five Food Groups
Abstract
Introduction – This is where I will discuss the basis of research, provide brief background
information, and introduce the topic of the five food groups and their importance. I cover why the
foods are classified into five main groups in the first place and each group's role of proving your
body with essentials.
Literature Review – In this section, I source secondary data on my topic in order to strengthen my
claims of health facts and such.
Findings/Body – This is the mainframe of my essay in which I present my research on the topic,
my personal experiences in terms scenarios where I either lacked or had sufficient nutrition and
vitamins from foods, and the affects. I will also reiterate the five groups and go into detail the
purposes of each group.
Conclusion – Here I wrap everything up by reinstating the importance of implementing the five food
group model in our life.

It seems just from plain observation that the quality of food in terms of healthiness us humans have
become accustomed to; have gone down over the years, especially in the younger generations.
Food groups such as fruits, vegetables, and meats have been an important guideline toward human
wellbeing in terms of energy and nutrients for thousands of years. We may not have known the
importance of some particular food groups back then, but us as humans have a natural instinct
embedded inside of us to seek the foods our body needs. In the early 1900's, the five main food
group model of Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Proteins, and Dairy, was created and implemented into
being taught in schooling systems and serves as a guideline for anyone who wants to live a healthy

Essay on The "Big Five" Personality Traits
Reaction Paper #1 The "Big Five" Personality Traits Throughout our lives, we, as humans, encounter
others that we may either have an immediate connection with, must discover more about the
individual to determine the relevant connection, or simply, we just cannot manage to maintain a
cordial relationship. What determines whether or not we can get along with someone else is
defined by an individual's personality. A personality is an array of "psychological" characteristics
that makes each person unique, in their own way. Upon analyzing my own personality, I believe that
my overall character is one that understands, can relate, and focuses on the big picture both in my
personal life and in the work environment. Therefore, in analyzing...show more content...
An experience that I can reference back to where I dealt with a co–worker that was on the lower side
of the conscientiousness spectrum was when she and I were compiling a list together to fulfill
tasks that needed to be completed for a showroom install we were working on. She had too many
goals that needed to be obtained at one time, which meant that, with a deadline, some goals were
not going to be adequately fulfilled. As a result, this made some of our presentations appear
incomplete. The best resolution would have been to tailor the list, focusing only on key priorities,
and worrying about the fillers later. I tend to believe that someone that only focuses on a few goals
at one time not only shows that they are organized, but their organization allows for their co–workers
to feel less stress and not under pressure, even with a deadline set. The third "big five" is
"negative emotionality." This trait I view as a "personal life interference" trait. It is defined as
the moodiness and lack of confidence "trait." It is understandable that everyone, at some point in
time, becomes stressed during work, yet, "why" he or she is stressed and "how" he or she deals
with it, are the key factors. An individual that becomes stressed about a report that has been
assigned to him or her with an unrealistic deadline is relative to the work environment. Being able
to remain poise and reassuring one's self that the deadline can be made are

My Writing Standards
The standards that were chosen for this literacy development profile closely fit with what my class is
learning this quarter. We are working with writing complete sentences with capital letters and
punctuation, sight words, spelling, and letter sounds. The standards I chose also correlate with the
kindergarten standards since many of my students are just transitioning into the first grade. The
writing standard I chose allows for a broader spectrum when it comes to persuasive and opinion
pieces. My first graders can only write very simple sentences and some have not master that skill at
all. When I was trying to find the right writing standard for this project, it was very important that it
focused on the voice of writing. First graders have very limited writing and spelling conventions
now, so the voice is one of the components we can see in the very beginning of writing....show more

The Big Five Personality Test
Personality Project I have taken the big five personality test before in my high school psychology
class, so I was not surprised by any of my results. But I don't mind taking it again because people
change a lot over two years, especially adolescents. I have also taken other personality tests on my
free time because I think it is fun finding out more about myself. I have taken similar tests such as
the sixteen personalities test and political spectrum tests, but I believe the big five test is the most
accurate way to measure personality. My highest percentile traint is for openness at 95%. I would

Next is my extraversion score is also 70%. I guess this one makes sense because I like to talk to
and get to know my coworkers as much as I can when their is nothing else for us to do. Besides
my family members, I don't really meet up or spend much time outside of work or school with
people. I genuinely enjoy work outings and family reunions but outside of that I go home and
keep to myself when I am not busy. I lean towards being extraverted because I like meeting new
people and don't mind being the center of attention. I think these habits have something to do
with being an only child with divorced parents. For example a few years ago when I traveled
abroad in Germany and stayed with my host family of two parents and four children, but there
were minor misunderstandings. One day I came home after school, went into my room and
played on my phone for a couple of hours until diner. The next day the host mother said they
thought I was upset about something the day before and was intentionally isolating myself. I
apologised, then explained that is what I do most days back home when I would get home from
school and my mom or dad was at work. The benefit of being extraverted is I get to know and
generally get along with my coworkers and don't mind public speaking. The down side is being
found annoying or too talkative. My agreeableness score is 67.5%. It is a higher score than
average, but I would just attribute it to being Minnesota nice. I don't like to be rude to

Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay
In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy
of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic
irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows
what the true reality is. According to some researchers, "A staple of Elizabethan and
Shakespearean drama was dramatic irony" (Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive
that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, " One of the more prominent literary devices in
the play is irony" (Sauer 673). Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of
instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to...show more

Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once
things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, and her first reaction to this is
anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes
her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has
ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection
to people, whatsoever. Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life,
at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, "Juliet feels that Romeo is no
longer her lover, and she can't have him again" (Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so
much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet
inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible
death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, "Well, girl thou weep'st not so much for
his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered him" (Romeo and Juliet 3.5.65–66). Juliet had
just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasn't crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The
dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady
Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. Dramatic irony was a

Jared's Five-Page Thesis
Jared's five–page thesis paper was written very well, so well that it felt like the story was more of a
narrative of events I have never heard of. This will make for a great paper because it grabs the
reader and keeps him/her entertained throughout the paper, but there was a lack of material in this
paper that should be mentioned. For example, the source material seems a little sparse for this essay.
This can be seen by how there are only two sources in Jared's paper, yet he is writing on a lot of
material that feels like is being summarized. This is fine, however, as the assignment was only five
pages, so I feel confidant that Jared will maximize the amount of sources he will use. Additionally,
there was no historiography mentioned in this

Literacy And Ethnographic Research
Since the 1980s, Scholars have continued to argue that there is more to 'LITERACY' than just the
ability to read and write they pushed that there is also a cultural and social approach to literacy.
The most prevalent understanding of literacy to all is that, it is a set of tangible skills of reading
and writing that are independent of the context in which they are acquired and the background of the
person who acquires them. This essay explains in detail the critique of the Traditional view of literacy
by Scholars, the merits and downfalls of redefining the traditional view of literacy and why
LITERACY is indeed more than just the ability to read and write. Scholars argued that the ways in
which literacy is practiced vary by social and cultural context (Barton, 1994). Ethnographic research
into literacy practices in particular settings was particularly instrumental in the development of this
approach, typically known as 'New Literacy Studies' (NLS) (Gee, 1999; Heath, 1993; Street, 1998).
Rather than see literacy as a technical skill independent of context, the NLS approach argues it is a
social practice, embedded in social settings and, further, that even a presumably 'objective' skill such
as numeracy can be socially situated.
According to James...show more content...
He views literacy as social practices, and approaches literacy from cross cultural perspectives in
which there are multiple literacies that are practiced in real contexts. He stresses the social nature,
as opposed to the autonomous, skills oriented perspective of literacy. Street argues that literacy or
schooling has cognitive effects apart from the context in which it exists and the uses to which it is
put in a given culture. Street also saw literacy as a broader cultural conception of particular ways of
thinking about doing reading and writing in cultural

Five Page Essay

  • 1. Student Strengths And Weaknesses All students have different strengths and weaknesses. Some might get distracted by the slightest little glint of a phone screen, but others may have intense focus all the time. This is just one example of the diversity of students' strengths and weaknesses in school. It's important for students to analyze their strengths and weaknesses in order to become better learners. I have analyzed my strengths and weaknesses as a student, and compared the to the ideas of Conley in "Student Ownership as a Key Component of College Readiness". As a student, over my entire school career, I have discovered that I can focus when there's a deadline rapidly approaching and a grade on the line, but when there are neither of those things, I have a bad habit of procrastination. As a learner I have many weaknesses. One of the most prominent is my habit of procrastination. I tend to procrastinate a lot on school assignments, purely because I want to do other things. If I want to do something else that I find fun, it's difficult to make myself do homework instead. This habit of procrastination often leads to me cramming to finish an assignment the day before a big assignment is due. On the flip side, if what I'm learning is fun or interesting, I have no problem with procrastination. On a similar note, If I am working on an assignment that I don't find interesting, it will take me an extremely long time to get it done, unless I have some sort of pressure like a time constraint. • 2. Plato's The Apology Essay "How you have felt, O men of Athens, at hearing the speeches of my accusers, I cannot tell; but I know that their persuasive words almost made me forget who I was – such was the effect of them; and yet they have hardly spoken a word of truth." – Plato "The Apology" In "The Apology," Socrates represents himself in his own trial. He boldly questions the morality of the people of court. In this report, I will be analyzing portions of "The Apology" in order to reveal the intellectuality of this text within this time frame. I will only discuss bits of "The Apology" on account that it is a lengthy piece. However, before discussing the speech it is important to set the scene. Socrates was born in 469 B.C.E. and lived to 399 B.C.E. (Nails, 2014)....show more content... Under this regime was Socrates sentenced to death. "The Apology" allows not only for us to conceptualize Socrates' trail, but it also provides a glimpse of the way the government was set up in this time. In "The Apology," Socrates is summoned to a trail based on accusations convicting him of impious beliefs and corrupting the youth. Socrates, first, addresses the charges of corrupting the youth. He begins by stating that Meletus could care less about matters concerning children. He, then, inquires if Meletus "...think[s] a great deal about the improvement of youth..." (Lawall, 786). To this Meletus responds with an earnest answer. "Yes, I do" (p.786). Socrates responds with a sequence of questions regarding Meletus's view of the "improver" of children. Meletus answers these questions with simple answers; he names the laws judges, senators, and "the members of the assembly." (p. 786) To each of Meletus's responses, Socrates has an antithetical reply. Socrates generally refutes this charge by comparing the care of horses to the care of children. "Does one man do them [horses] harm and all the world good? Is not the exact opposite the truth?" (786). He goes on to say that the world would be a much better place if all but one person were virtuous. He, then, asks if it is better to live among the good or the bad. Meletus agrees that it is better to live among the good (786). Socrates asks if his corruption of the children is intentional or unintentional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Five -Year Plan Essay Five–Year Career Development Plan MGT/431 March 24, 2011 When developing a good five year career plan I had to ask myself where, I wanted to be in five years. This question would be critical for my future. When I was in school in thought, I knew my career path. I was convince I was going to become a nurse. As years past, I found myself moving away from nursing and interested in teaching. However, my transition would not be as smooth as once believed. According to Career vision, (2004), "for some people, the five year career plan may be a plan to prepare them for another job, for others it may be a plan to develop skills used in their current job. The five year plan is very much an individual plan, and is to be used solely...show more content... I am repeatedly informing my older child of how important it is to go to college and obtain his degree. When I complete my studies I will be able to show him the journey was not easy but obtainable. Another goal for my five–year plan is to be debt free. While in college I have many student loans that I need to pay off. I want to completely pay off my student loan debt in five years or less. I believe this task can be accomplished if I stay to my budget plan. The benefits of paying the loans off early would help me with interest rates, and it will also help me increase my credit score, which will help me when it is time to open my husband and me restaurant. Promotional Opportunities Upon completion of my bachelor's degree program, I will try to seek employment with my hospital human resources department as a generalist. I currently work with staffing and with a bachelor's degree in management; I believe I would be ready to move up to a higher level. The transition from staffing to human resources I believe would be smooth, because I am familiar with the hiring process and I am also knowledgeable with dealing with outside staffing agencies. Career Management According to Career vision (2004), "Career management is the lifelong process of investing resources to achieve your career goals. Career management is not a singular event but a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Creative Writing: Fear of the Unknown Dark black surroundings around me. Blindness is a natural occurrence after the sun descends. Senses are heightened which sparks the imagination to soar. A moment of time when things of legend becomes a reality and self–doubt are unveiled. In the darkness the line between fact and fiction blur. Sounds, fears, and intuition are the elements that rule when light does not exist. Things that pop and crack populate the house. Hearing sounds in the middle of the night that send chills down my spine. A sense of alertness occurs when standing there frozen, waiting, and thinking, "What could it be?" Waiting for the next noise or ignition of thought that makes the heart beat a little faster and breathe slower to limit the noises made in the darkness. When the lights go out you ultimately assume the worst scenarios for example a burglar, paranormal activities, or critters in the night. Even the tick tock of the clock seems like a loud bass drum in the vicinity of catching another sound to reassure that the noise was not something or someone. I often ask myself "Why me?" questioning why I have these fears. I remember how watching horror movies generated fear even at the young age of eight. Movies such as Puppet Master, IT, and Children of the Corn come tomind as well as the infamous Chucky movies. In those movies only bad things happened at night. Although a few people are comfortable in the dark most people visit the dark in a place of fear. The biggest fear is fear of the unknown Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content... The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted. Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character, personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write. On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays. Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so," (232). • 6. Many timeless novels have impacts on our everyday culture, not only as a book, but also through music or movies. Many popular novels have multiple adaptations, which shape how we approach their interpretation, in ways we may never even notice. In some films, humans are depicted as monsters, whether through their actions, or through the thoughts of other beings. In these films we find issues with our own society, and in turn see ourselves as monsters, and look for ways we can change, for the better. One particular novel that influences this side of Hollywood is Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein". The ways Frankenstein influences pop culture can be seen in science fiction films in which humans are depicted as monster, and "monsters" are seen as...show more content... You cannot be trusted with your own survival." Influences from Frankenstein are evident in I,Robot, in the ways that humans respond when the power of the created becomes greater than that of the creator. "'Remember, thou hast made me more powerful than thyself; my height is superior to thine, my joints more supple. But I will not be tempted to set myself in opposition to thee.'" In this quote, Frankenstein realizes, through an argument made by the beast, that the monsters power has become greater than his own, when they finally come face to face for their first quarrel since the monster's animation. The monster uses intelligent language as well as quick wit which, when paired with his already superhuman stature, causes him to tower over Frankenstein in height, wisdom, and humanity. When Victor realizes that he is inferior to his creation he responds rashly, saying things like, "'Abhorred monster! fiend that thou art!"' and "'you reproach me with your creation; come one, then, that I may extinguish the spark which I so negligently bestowed!"' These responses show a pattern of childishness as well as a strong tendency to resort to violence inherent in the human race. In I,Robot, when the robots revolt, and take to the streets controlling the humans, mobs begin to form, and the humans fight back with chains, baseball bats, and whatever else they can against an enemy that is obviously superior. In a confrontation, one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. How Did English Evolve I totally agreed Allison. To be literate in the western world is imperative as our society has evolved to require this specific knowledge and understanding (Gee & Hayes, 2011). As you state the need to read and write within the Piraha tribes is non–existent due to their remote surroundings and simple way of life. The ever growing importance to be able to read and write is certainly apparent in modern society. The fact is to be literate promotes independence in adulthood through possible employment, increasing the chance of further education, simply being able to write a shopping list or reading instructions of how to take medication. • 8. Five Senses Essay Jonathan Crabtrey 10/30/2011 The five senses In this essay I will use the five senses in describing a trip to the movies the five senses being sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Senses we all use every day and that most of us would find difficult to live without. As im sitting at my house in my chair the leather smooth and black and smelling like pledge from my frequent cleaning seeing as I can't stand to see it dirty a friend comes over and asks me if I would like to go with him to the movies . • 9. Five Of My Best Half Page Writings Five of my best half page writings: And the strange noise grows louder The sound says enough is enough. You have to find a solution to what you want. The goals stuck in my head are going to eat me up if I don't accomplish them. These strange noises grow from whispers to screams and are constantly in my mind. What they demand is my intentions be on a different level, thriving for success, accomplishing my goals, and finally reaching the top. They tell me I'm different, and I believe them, but I need the rest of the world to hear it from them and feel it too. I will try not to disappoint the voices in my head by working hard in every endeavor especially in my school work. If I manage to do so, I will walk tall and make those who tell me I am different proud. How's Life? Well... life has treated me pretty good in the past few months. In December, I was accepted into a scholarship that helped me build myself up financially and gain some capital to start a business. I see a lot of potential in myself based on my perception of my goals that are to be accomplished in the future, but it takes one step at a time. The virtue of patience is a fantastic entity any person will have to achieve to attain their long–term goals. If I plan my goals and start working on them systematically while avoiding distractions that interfere with my strategies, I will be successful in life. • 10. James Paul Gee's What Is Literacy If Gee's "What is Literacy" were a boat, we'd all be bailing water. In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay "What is Literacy" written by Linguist James Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned skills to provide a 'useful' definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee must educate the reader on various definitions, idea and numerous theories in an effort to provide support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes. It is my belief that while Gee is eventually able to turn the reader to his way of thinking, he is not able to as eloquently as he would like. In fact, upon closer examination, I...show more content... In fact, I am so perplexed by this ultimately simple definition that I read and re–read the definition again and again trying to make sense of the words on the page and wondering if this has all been an effort in futility. Even Gee himself seems dissatisfied with the definition he has provided as he immediately adds the adjectives "dominant" and "powerful" as a means to better express the meaning of the definition he has provided in the very next sentences. While I acknowledge that for purpose of this essay Gee's definition may offer up a viable definition to support his arguments, it is by no means a 'useful' or working definition of the word anywhere Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Writing Class Analysis Writing, in terms of school work (especially considering essays, prompts, and anything that somehow constricts freedom of thoughts or ideas in any way), does not come natural to me. Writing is hard, no matter what kind of writing it is, but writing papers is especially hard. Some people would choose, outside of forced schoolwork, to write essays and papers and prompts. I do not choose to do such, as many of them may not make much sense. For me, writing short stories or poems or longer short stories (novellas?) comes natural to me. They are free, not necessarily bound by constrictions from a school assignment. But, as prompted, this reflection comes into play with the writing skills used in an English class. I am hoping through this class to make my essay writing (and ...show more content... In the fifth grade, I learned the five–paragraph structure. As I continued through the grades, it was more of an expectation to use that specific structure for essays or large works. In tenth grade, I tried to veer away from the structure, but I have found that my essays always tend to come back to this structure (not so much the five–paragraph structure, but an introduction paragraph, body paragraphs, and a conclusion that reiterates the thesis). As a writer and a reader, I know this becomes very dull very quickly. In a deeper layer of the five–paragraph essay, I have found that transitions between paragraphs has always been a weakness of mine. Being able to flow from one paragraph to another is more advanced, perhaps, but it would seem that at such a level as high school writing, it would be expected that the paragraphs at least make sense in the order that they are presented. This is not always the case in my writing. I tend to assume that the connection I make in my head is portrayed in my words or automatically known, when in fact it is most likely a very complicated connection on my part that no one else is bound to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. An Assignment On An Endangered Species One of the very first writing assignments I had was to write a five page essay on an endangered species. Ultimately, this project was going to determine my final grade for this class for the semester because it was the last semester and my Environmental Science teacher, Mrs. Capp, had intentionally made it to where this project was going to be worth 2 test grades, and only gave us one test before she had made the project due. She was the kind of teacher that would tell you what she was thinking and she didn't care if you liked her or not. She was very straight forward about everything. Although Mrs. Capp had actually had given this project out at the beginning of the year, she knew that all her students would procrastinate and do it close to last minute. Which, coincidentally, I happened to be one of those kids that waited. I came into this class late but around maybe the third week of school she had everybody in her classes pick an animal to write about that was on the endangered species list, I chose the Leatherback Sea Turtle. The project had to consist of in text citations, some sort of visual aid like a poster board or a power point, it had to be presented in front of the class and of course the written five page paper. This class was entirely too easy for me, I was forced to take this class because I wasn't showing as much work ethic in my former Chemistry class as my teacher would have liked, so he took me out of his class, but as I still needed a science to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The Five Food Groups Abstract Introduction – This is where I will discuss the basis of research, provide brief background information, and introduce the topic of the five food groups and their importance. I cover why the foods are classified into five main groups in the first place and each group's role of proving your body with essentials. Literature Review – In this section, I source secondary data on my topic in order to strengthen my claims of health facts and such. Findings/Body – This is the mainframe of my essay in which I present my research on the topic, my personal experiences in terms scenarios where I either lacked or had sufficient nutrition and vitamins from foods, and the affects. I will also reiterate the five groups and go into detail the purposes of each group. Conclusion – Here I wrap everything up by reinstating the importance of implementing the five food group model in our life. Introduction...show more content... It seems just from plain observation that the quality of food in terms of healthiness us humans have become accustomed to; have gone down over the years, especially in the younger generations. Food groups such as fruits, vegetables, and meats have been an important guideline toward human wellbeing in terms of energy and nutrients for thousands of years. We may not have known the importance of some particular food groups back then, but us as humans have a natural instinct embedded inside of us to seek the foods our body needs. In the early 1900's, the five main food group model of Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Proteins, and Dairy, was created and implemented into being taught in schooling systems and serves as a guideline for anyone who wants to live a healthy Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay on The "Big Five" Personality Traits Reaction Paper #1 The "Big Five" Personality Traits Throughout our lives, we, as humans, encounter others that we may either have an immediate connection with, must discover more about the individual to determine the relevant connection, or simply, we just cannot manage to maintain a cordial relationship. What determines whether or not we can get along with someone else is defined by an individual's personality. A personality is an array of "psychological" characteristics that makes each person unique, in their own way. Upon analyzing my own personality, I believe that my overall character is one that understands, can relate, and focuses on the big picture both in my personal life and in the work environment. Therefore, in analyzing...show more content... An experience that I can reference back to where I dealt with a co–worker that was on the lower side of the conscientiousness spectrum was when she and I were compiling a list together to fulfill tasks that needed to be completed for a showroom install we were working on. She had too many goals that needed to be obtained at one time, which meant that, with a deadline, some goals were not going to be adequately fulfilled. As a result, this made some of our presentations appear incomplete. The best resolution would have been to tailor the list, focusing only on key priorities, and worrying about the fillers later. I tend to believe that someone that only focuses on a few goals at one time not only shows that they are organized, but their organization allows for their co–workers to feel less stress and not under pressure, even with a deadline set. The third "big five" is "negative emotionality." This trait I view as a "personal life interference" trait. It is defined as the moodiness and lack of confidence "trait." It is understandable that everyone, at some point in time, becomes stressed during work, yet, "why" he or she is stressed and "how" he or she deals with it, are the key factors. An individual that becomes stressed about a report that has been assigned to him or her with an unrealistic deadline is relative to the work environment. Being able to remain poise and reassuring one's self that the deadline can be made are Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We are working with writing complete sentences with capital letters and punctuation, sight words, spelling, and letter sounds. The standards I chose also correlate with the kindergarten standards since many of my students are just transitioning into the first grade. The writing standard I chose allows for a broader spectrum when it comes to persuasive and opinion pieces. My first graders can only write very simple sentences and some have not master that skill at all. • 16. The Big Five Personality Test Personality Project I have taken the big five personality test before in my high school psychology class, so I was not surprised by any of my results. But I don't mind taking it again because people change a lot over two years, especially adolescents. I have also taken other personality tests on my free time because I think it is fun finding out more about myself. I have taken similar tests such as the sixteen personalities test and political spectrum tests, but I believe the big five test is the most accurate way to measure personality. My highest percentile traint is for openness at 95%. I would agree with the results because the adjectives the survey uses to describe open personalities, also describe well. For example it says that...show more content... Next is my extraversion score is also 70%. I guess this one makes sense because I like to talk to and get to know my coworkers as much as I can when their is nothing else for us to do. Besides my family members, I don't really meet up or spend much time outside of work or school with people. I genuinely enjoy work outings and family reunions but outside of that I go home and keep to myself when I am not busy. I lean towards being extraverted because I like meeting new people and don't mind being the center of attention. I think these habits have something to do with being an only child with divorced parents. For example a few years ago when I traveled abroad in Germany and stayed with my host family of two parents and four children, but there were minor misunderstandings. One day I came home after school, went into my room and played on my phone for a couple of hours until diner. The next day the host mother said they thought I was upset about something the day before and was intentionally isolating myself. I apologised, then explained that is what I do most days back home when I would get home from school and my mom or dad was at work. The benefit of being extraverted is I get to know and generally get along with my coworkers and don't mind public speaking. The down side is being found annoying or too talkative. My agreeableness score is 67.5%. It is a higher score than average, but I would just attribute it to being Minnesota nice. I don't like to be rude to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Romeo and Juliet 5 Paragraph Essay In many literary works, there are methods that authors use to make a story better. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, dramatic irony is the driving method. Dramatic irony is something in which characters do not know something, but the reader or audience knows what the true reality is. According to some researchers, "A staple of Elizabethan and Shakespearean drama was dramatic irony" (Halio 25). Furthermore some researchers also belive that dramatic irony is very prominent in the play, " One of the more prominent literary devices in the play is irony" (Sauer 673). Romeo and Juliet, and also their friends and families face a lot of instances of dramatic irony in the story. Dramatic irony creates suspense and adds to...show more content... Due to the nurse being so unclear, Juliet thinks that both Romeo and Tybalt both have died. Once things clear up, Juliet figures out that Romeo has killed Tybalt, and her first reaction to this is anger toward Romeo. After things cool down, she feels bad that she has said this, and she takes her words back. Once Juliet learns about the punishment Romeo gets she feels the worst she has ever felt. Romeo was given the sentence of exile, which in the time period meant no connection to people, whatsoever. Due to this Juliet knows that she might never ever see the love of her life, at all. To Juliet this meant that there would be no more Romeo, "Juliet feels that Romeo is no longer her lover, and she can't have him again" (Moffat 139). She started crying a lot after this, so much that her parents had to come to her room and see what was going on. When Lady Capulet inquired as to why Juliet was crying, Juliet right away said that she was crying about the horrible death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet responds to this by saying, "Well, girl thou weep'st not so much for his death, as that the villain lives which slaughtered him" (Romeo and Juliet 3.5.65–66). Juliet had just tricked her mother into thinking that she wasn't crying for Romeo, but rather Tybalt. The dramatic irony in this case is that the reader knows that Juliet is lying to her mother, but Lady Capulet actually believes this, and goes along with it. • 18. Jared's Five-Page Thesis Jared's five–page thesis paper was written very well, so well that it felt like the story was more of a narrative of events I have never heard of. This will make for a great paper because it grabs the reader and keeps him/her entertained throughout the paper, but there was a lack of material in this paper that should be mentioned. For example, the source material seems a little sparse for this essay. This can be seen by how there are only two sources in Jared's paper, yet he is writing on a lot of material that feels like is being summarized. This is fine, however, as the assignment was only five pages, so I feel confidant that Jared will maximize the amount of sources he will use. Additionally, there was no historiography mentioned in this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Literacy And Ethnographic Research Since the 1980s, Scholars have continued to argue that there is more to 'LITERACY' than just the ability to read and write they pushed that there is also a cultural and social approach to literacy. The most prevalent understanding of literacy to all is that, it is a set of tangible skills of reading and writing that are independent of the context in which they are acquired and the background of the person who acquires them. This essay explains in detail the critique of the Traditional view of literacy by Scholars, the merits and downfalls of redefining the traditional view of literacy and why LITERACY is indeed more than just the ability to read and write. Scholars argued that the ways in which literacy is practiced vary by social and cultural context (Barton, 1994). Ethnographic research into literacy practices in particular settings was particularly instrumental in the development of this approach, typically known as 'New Literacy Studies' (NLS) (Gee, 1999; Heath, 1993; Street, 1998). Rather than see literacy as a technical skill independent of context, the NLS approach argues it is a social practice, embedded in social settings and, further, that even a presumably 'objective' skill such as numeracy can be socially situated. According to James...show more content... He views literacy as social practices, and approaches literacy from cross cultural perspectives in which there are multiple literacies that are practiced in real contexts. He stresses the social nature, as opposed to the autonomous, skills oriented perspective of literacy. Street argues that literacy or schooling has cognitive effects apart from the context in which it exists and the uses to which it is put in a given culture. Street also saw literacy as a broader cultural conception of particular ways of thinking about doing reading and writing in cultural Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Mosaic: The Family Research Assignment Before attending the Ohio State University, I took several English classes at my high school. In total I obtained 5 English credits; one of the credits being from a program called Mosaic. Mosaic is a humanities based program focusing more on project–based learning instead of exams. These projects were mainly in the form of research papers. One of the papers assigned in the class was the Family Research assignment. The Family Research assignment was a twenty–five page essay regarding familial ancestry. For this assignment, it was required to have multiple MLA formatted sources; having one of the sources be from an interview. The assignment was long and tedious, but it taught me about how to cite my work to avoid plagiarism, how to write long Get more content on HelpWriting.net
