This document outlines the structure and requirements of a newspaper production course at San Francisco State University. The class meets twice a week and involves workshops, guest speakers, and discussions about ethical issues. Students work as reporters, editors, photographers, or designers for the Golden Gate Xpress newspaper. Grading is based on portfolios of work published in three sections over the semester. Reporters must submit 15 stories total and 20 hours of production work. Their portfolios are evaluated by both their editors and the instructor. The class aims to provide hands-on experience producing a weekly campus newspaper.
