In this presentation more detailed information is presented about the IMT programs;
It’s not the English translation of the Dutch Management Tourism program but also contentwise these programs have an international focus
1.You have the possibility to meet foreign students with different backgrounds/cultures
2. Although at the moment we have a Euro crises, internationally tourism is booming (WTO?) A lot of people in the world now have money to travel; so a lot of tourism destinations show an enormous growth in arrivals and this of couse means enormous new markets were the tourism industry can profit from
3. So if you are looking for an international career, you are also enlarging your possible workfield after you finished the NHTV.
By following ITM you are well prepared for an international career
These work opportunities can be split up into:
1.Managing tourism flows, what tour operators travel agencies and airlines do
tour operators such as TUI or Thomas Cook
2 And Managing tourism destinations ; these can be small areas (villages/cities) but also larger areas like region/ countries.
VVV, IAmsterdam
Tourist organisations, natural parks, governments, research and consultancy firms are focused in how to manage tourism development
We will use this model to demonstrate how the ITM program is structured.
So let’s start in the first year. (Fast track students start their program in the second year)
We already mentioned the international classroom: so by all these different backgrounds from students you really may experience an international atmosphere
Dutch-Foreign 80%-20%
In the first year courses related to Leisure and Tourism are offered.
As an introduction 4 projects are representing the most important components for managing tourism; Imagineering= creative product dev.)
Of course also management skills and Languages are offered.
Also for fast trackers who are entitled to start in the second year, it might be an option to decide to start in the first year if you doubt between tourism and leisure studies
After the first year you have 2 possibilities to choose from : ITTI/ ITMC; next slide the difference will be made clear
ITTI is focused on managing tourism flows = developing and managing tourism products. So the focus is on those businesses that are relalted to that (BUSINESS FOCUS)
ITTMC – focused on managing tourism destinations; what are impacts of tourism on destinations; how can negative impacts be prevented and positive impacts being stimulated? What factors are influencing tourism development? The world is constantly changing.Tomorrow situations might be different from today. That also counts for tourism destinations. In the ITMC program we pay attention to the CONTEXT of tourism development.Factors that influenced and will influence tourism development in the past, present and future
Some typical examples of jobs of ITMC graduates (all related to managing tourism destinations)
From exploring to applying towards integration and being a young professional
Phase 1 : courses and skills (Second year) but also the field research trip
Phase 2 : theme projects (3rd year)
Phase 3: Integrated project(graduation project)

In the first semester 4th year you may compose your own study content by following minors (courses with a special focus) and also seminars
So this is the possibility to broaden or specialize your horizon on basis of your personal interests
In the second semester you will work on a thesis or graduation project (alleen bij ITTI) Another opportunity to gain international experience when you plan to do your research for a part abroad.
Examples of ITMC minors
Examples of ITTI minors
We also offer possibilities that can be seen as extra value elements like : see slide
It’s possible to study a semester abroad during the 2nd and 3rd year with our partner institutes or
To study the 4th year at our partner universities by which you can obtain diploma’s from both universities
So again, enough possibilities to build up an international experience during your studies
ITM is also a perfect base for further studying;
Our own Master programs, but also master programs outside the Netherlands
It is not easy to find a room in Breda. Dutch students have to search on their own, foreign students are being supported by the International Office. The average rents are Euro 350,-, which means that you can already find a nice room for Euro 250,-, but others have to pay Euro 450,-
A major part of the Dutch students still live with their parents during the first year. Foreign students mainly live in the inner city of Breda.
A lot of students have part time jobs and also foreign students have one. If your Dutch is not so good yet, you can work for example at Mc Donalds or IKEA.
See website for information on financing for foreign students. This is dependent on individual situations.
There is NO numerus fixus
The study choice check is NOT a selection tool.
Application before 1st of May your acceptance is guaranteed. After that you can still apply, but the procedure is slightly different. More information can be found at the stand and online.
