ResearchExperience:
I entered IIT Madras in March’10 as a Research scholar in the Department of Management Studies.
Initially I covered courses like Introduction to Research, System thinking and application, Operations
research, Logistics and Distribution management, Services and operations management, Data Analysis for
management, Supply chain management, Business research methodology, Simulation modeling and
analysis, Strategic sourcing. My CGPA score for completed courses was 8.56. Apart from this I also
audited courses like advanced operation research, Game theory, Operations management and Heuristics.
After carrying out literature survey in the area of Supply chain Management I concentrated on
Remanufacturing in a closed loop supply chain which basically integrates forward and reverse supply
chains in a system. Research was analytical in nature using optimization techniques initially for a single
stage and later on for multiple stages. The title of the thesis was “Optimization of allocation of graded
returns and price in a multistage closed loop supply chain” The basic assumption was that the supplier to
OEM vendors collects the returns from its customer and refurbishes the same inclusive of recycling of the
costly raw material. The decision variables are sales price, external return %, acquisition prices and
ultimate distribution of the same to different stages. The profitability function when maximized shows
that there exists optimum values of the decision variables. Results also showed that when the reverse and
forward supply chains run parallel and interconnected to each other the profitability is higher than when
reverse chain is not operating and sale price could also be reduced to become more competitive. The
return % and distribution of the same to various stages could be predicted with fair accuracy resulting in
better utilization of the capacities in various stages of reverse supply chain.
It took nearly four years (working full time and staying in the campus) to complete the thesis and get it
approved by a professor (Piyush Mehta) of IIM, Kolkata and another professor (Rainer Leisten) of
University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany ultimately.
