- Embase has been around for a while; Technically Embase started roughly 60 years ago, as the ExcerptaMedica Abstract Journals in 1947. - With 50 abstract journals, that contained Emtree (taxonomy) indexing; The first major milestone was back in 1974, when the database of those abstract journals was made available digitally through, what was at the time: Lockheed Dialog. Over the years many platforms that provide access to Embase have come an gone, and currently it’s available on OvidSP, Proquest Dialog, STN, Ebsco, amongst others. Roughly 11 years ago Elsevier developed it’s own platform: embase.com, which has an interface specifically tailored for the embase dbase, indexing and taxonomy, with special attention to subheadings, deduplication at the source and conferences. New developments? Increased taxonomy and Embase API; existing customers can get access to that API for free. This presentation is meant for both Embase.com users as well as vendor customers!
- Our more international coverage is true; yes we have more European, Asian and Latin American content, but not at a cost of our North American coverage; Roughly 2700 N-American journals in Embase; 2500 in Medline.
- Our coverage is pretty similar to Medline, percentage wise, but clearly deviates on two topic areas; Pharmacology & Toxicology and General Clinical Medicine;
- We track our currency for a selection of journals, just to make sure that we stay ahead of the game.
