2. Objectives of Industrial Safety
• To prevent accident in the plant by reducing the hazard to minimum
• To prevent loss of life, permanent disability and the loss of income of worker by eliminating causes
of accident
• To eliminate accidents causing work stoppage and production loss
• To educate all members regarding the safety principles
• To achieve lower workman’s compensation, insurance rate and reduce all cost of accident

• An accident is a mishap, which causes injury to men, machines or tools and equipment
• Injury may result either death or temporary disablement or permanent disablement of the
employees

-The cost of accidents is included in the products, so the society
has to pay more prices for the products
- Loss of production hours causes fewer products in market, So
more price if demand is more than production

7. Accident Prevention
• Safety Measures in Construction Work
- All construction equipment and machinery should be properly inspected for safety
- All moving and rotating parts should be properly guided
- Efforts should be taken to minimize the dust
- Proper signal boards should be used for warning
- Fire extinguishers should be mounted whenever it is necessary
• Safety Measures in Material Handling
- Each crane should carry proper guards for all moving and rotating parts
- All material handling equipment's should be operated only by trained operators
- Maintenance work should be done after switching off the power supply and it should be done by trained
persons
- Riding on a conveyor should be strictly prohibited.
- An effective lubrication schedule should be worked out and implemented
- Workers should be properly trained and should wear all protective clothing , helmets, goggles
- Body position of operator should be proper while doing loading and unloading

8. • Safety Measures Against Electric shocks
- All operators associated with electrical work should wear proper dress
- Do not play with live wire
- Do not work with damaged wires
- Inflammable material should not be kept near electrical machinery
- Broken fittings like switches, plugs etc should always be promptly replaced
- Proper type of wiring should be provided in all locations
- Periodical inspection should be done to detect the damages
• Fire Prevention and Protection
- Always select the least inflammable liquid that will serve the purpose
- Keep all inflammable liquids in closed containers or in safe cylinders
- Prohibit smoking, open flames and sparks near the flammable materials
- Provide suitable means of fire extinguishment
- Fire alarm signals should be at proper place

13. • It is necessary to have first aid facilities in the industry, so that preliminary treatment may be
given to the person immediately after the accident before reaching the doctor to the patient or
taking patient to the doctor

- To maintain first aid box properly and replace the expire medicine
- To know the first aid techniques
- To reach as soon as possible with the first aid box at the place where accident occurs
- To bring the patient in the fist aid room for further treatment
- To have full sympathy with the patient
