In this session I will explore how we are all just one conversation away from pretty much everything and anything, and share first hand accounts of what companies and countries are doing about it to harness new insight, ideas and innovation. Roland – Long line of academics, German & American. Trained as a scientist, Peter Higgs, Got bored almost immediately. Musician. Publisher. Investor. Civil Servant. Entrepreneur. 100%Open – Open innovation agency – LEGO, P&G, Orange, E.ON – strategy, workshops, crowds Innovation is a contact sport Try new things, without fear of failure. Try’s new things. Brings other people in. Collaboration is innovation. Innovation is Collaboration. Innovation is the ByProduct of our Collaboration. We need to innovate by collaborating, by doing. Conferences like this are always useful but never enough. Too much talk and not enough action is the curse of almost every single organisation or place I’ve ever worked with or been to. What can GCC learn from EU? What can EU learn from GCC? Even though I have some experience in both markets (much more in EU than GCC) I’m not sure but I know without question that the answer in both cases and in both directions is a huge amount.
  2. Whether it’s GCC and EU or the people in this room meeting for the first time today, the way to collaborate effectively is to find something that we have in common i.e. to connect on our similarities, and build from there. To bring our unique perspective and expertise to the table, and create something new together that couldn’t be achieved on our own. i.e. to benefit from your differences. The art of good collaboration means leaving room for the contribution of others. And to be adaptive and respond well to the unexpected contributions of others. If you can do both (and many can’t) then we will be making progress. We call this Give to Get. Find opportunities to help others, and they will want and need to help you in return. To offset short term benefit for longer term gain. More on this later.
  3. First of all I want to illustrate just how connected we really all are by asking a simple question. Many of you may remember this question from your maths lessons when you were children, but how many of you remember the answer?
