3. Introduction to
kookaburras
Kookaburras are most commonly known for their
unmistakeable call that sounds like loud echoing
human laughter. The song they sing s to mark their
territory. Kookaburras are from the family of king
fishers and like other king fishers they have a stout
and compact body, a short neck, short legs and a
rather long and pointed bill. Kookaburras are 17
inches in height. It’s upper parts are dark brown and
the wings are a spotted grey blue. The under parts are
white and the strong bill is black. Ther is a white band
to separate the body.

Kookaburras are carnivores; the kookaburra bashes lizards and snakes against rock or tree to break up all
it’s bones to digest its prey.

5. Habitat
Kookaburras can be found in
habitats ranging from the arid
savanna to the humid rain-forests,

residential areas near running
water and where food can be

7. Adaptation Methods
The kookaburra has adapted to live in it’s habitat as
it has a hardened beak to build nests out of the
trunks of trees or termite mounds
The kookaburra has feet in which the digits are stuck
together, this enables it to grasp excellently on to
branches. As it is not a good flyer this ability helps it
a lot to catch it’s prey.

Baby kookaburras are born with a temporary hooked
beak which appears which appears to be specially
adapted for the purpose of fighting it’s nest mates.
