The Pyramids at Giza
Paul is preparing to write an essay about the pyramids at Giza. he has
finished his research and suspects that his paper will be rather long. He wants to
group his ideas into sections and include a heading above each section to help guide the reader.
DIRECTIONS: Read Paul’s notes. Write the letter of each sentence in the outline under the
correct heading.
A. The Pyramid of Khafre is actually nine feet shorter
than The Great Pyramid.
B. Egyptologists think that the Pyramid of Menkaure was
supposed to be even smaller than it turned out to be.
C. The pyramids in ancient Egyptians were built to be
tombs for the pharaohs and their queens.
D. The Pyramid of Khafre does not have interior corridors
leading to the center, you have to go down a long, deep
passage to get to the burial chamber instead.

than The Great Pyramid, but this is an optical illusion.
K. The Pyramid of Khafre is built on higher ground than
The Great Pyramid, which is why it looks taller.
L. There are close to about eighty pyramids that are
known to have been in ancient Egypt.
M. The pyramids at Giza are the three largest, sturdiest
and most well-preserved pyramids ever built.
N. The biggest pyramid at Giza, called “The Great
Pyramid”, was built for the pharaoh Khufu.

P. While the other two pyramids at Giza were completely
encased in white limestone to make a smooth, shiny
surface, the Pyramid of Menkaure was only partially
cased and so is believed to have been unfinished.
