3. Nylon strings, six ravenala
madascariensis plants, a crys-
tal quartz. 10 m X 4m X 7m.
This installation placed in
Tomie Ohtake Institute had
as elements the nylon strings,
the traveler’s tree (ravenala
madascariensis) and a crystal
quartz. Each element em-
bodied a specific time: the
organic time with the plants,
the inorganic time with the
quartz and the manufactured
time, with the nylon. To
enhance the organic time the
plants were hanged from the
celling of the space and left
there with no water, dying
with time, as an offering.

7. Scrotum, in Portuguese Escro-
to, has a double connotation
in Brazil. In one side the
source of male life, reproduc-
tion. In other side, a strong
coursing, which means a
dishonest person.
The plants and objects chosen
for this work had a relation
with the male world, like the
monstera deliciosa plant who
is popularly named in Portu-
guese as “Adam’s Ribs”.
In this installation the plants
are cultivated within the pe-
riod of exhibition but the fruits
are left to rot. The pulleys that
gives the installation a balan-
ce, are there to enhance the
changes of time. As soon as
the fruits roots the installation
changes its structure.
The installation was showed
for the period of three months.

10. Two jackfruits, a crystal
quartz, nylon and pulleys
were placed in a system of
balance. The quartz had the
same weight of the fruits.
With the passage of time the
jackfruit rot and lost weight.
Thus the work changed it’s
initial configuration.
This work has a relationship
with the personal histories of
the artist.

38. In Daniel Lie’s practice time
is the central pillar of his
reflection. Since the oldest
and affective memory - brin-
ging family and personal
stories - until the time of things
in the world; the period of a
lifetime, and the duration of
the states of the elements.
Through installations and
objects, using the things as
they are, he bases the work
on concepts related to per-
formance art - an art based
on time , ephemerality and
presence. To highlight these
three instances, elements that
have the time contained in
itself are set in the space as
installations such as plants,
rotting fruits and minerals.
In his research, the look is
facing tensions between
science and religion, ancestry
and present, shamanism and
everyday life. The visual artist
, Indonesian - Pernambuca-
no , lives and works in São
Paulo .
