Workshop Description - Leading Assessment the International School
 Are you leading a grade level team?
 A subject area?
 A data team?
 Or an elementary, middle or secondary school?
It will be no surprise to you that a huge piece of your work in that role revolves around
something to do with assessment. A strong set assessment leadership skills is a powerful
tool in improving student learning.
In this highly interactive, practical workshop, participants will
 Refresh knowledge and understanding of assessment practices, including:
1. Adopting a clear, practical definition of assessment for your school
2. Creating a set of assessment design principles
3. Designing assessment tools which will give BEST evidence of the intended
learning
4. Developing 5 ways to evaluate learning
5. Using assessment results to modify teaching
6. Reviewing the best ways to record learning results
7. Reviewing the best ways to report learning results
8. Examining the 40+ assessment practices that influence student learning
 Explore and practice to how to be a leader, including:
1. How to organize teams to get the assessment work done
2. Learning about how teachers typically adopt new initiatives
3. How to handle resistance from teachers/kids/parents
Information about Bambi
Bambi Betts is the director of both the Principals’ Training Center for International School
Leadership (PTC) and the Teacher Training Center for International Educators (TTC) as well
as the CEO for the Academy for International School Heads (AISH) and founder of the two
addition training centers for international educators, including counselors and school
business leaders. Bambi has been a director, principal and teacher in international schools
for over 25 years. She was formerly Director of Escuela Campo Alegre and has held
principalships in three international schools. She has been a consultant in over 75
international schools, conducting training on a variety of topics related to the effective
international school, including assessment, curriculum leadership, teacher leaders strategies,
instructional strategies, faculty evaluation, board training. She has written many articles on
practical ways to improve international schools and authors a regular column on the PTC
pages of The International Educator (TIE).

The cost of the workshop is 350 RMB. If possible please bring the exact money to the
workshop. The fee will need to be paid on Saturday 14th January by 12pm. RMB cash only
will be accepted. Western Academy of Beijing is unable to issue fa piaos (the official
Chinese receipt) but will be providing a school receipt upon payment. Please notify the
finance departments in your school that this is the case prior to coming to the workshop.
WAB teachers must complete a Professional Development Application form and
submit it to their sectional Principal if they wish to use PD funds to cover workshop
costs. Please indicate on the form which PD budget line you will be accessing.
Workshop Dates, Times and Location
The workshop will be held on Saturday 14th January and Sunday 15th January.
The times are as follows and will be the same for each day:
8:30 – 9:00 Registration and 12:30 – 1:15 Lunch

9:00 – 10:30 Session 1 1:15 – 4:00 Session 3 (There will be a
10:30 – 10:45 Break short break during this
10:45 – 12:30 Session 2 session.)
The workshop will be held in the Lotus Lounge, which is the staff lounge in Western
Academy of Beijing's Elementary School Building.
