Over 25 million children in Brazil live below the poverty line, with 7-8 million living on the streets. Poverty is a massive problem, with 1 in 4 Brazilian children suffering. Famous Brazilian soccer player Adriano grew up in extreme poverty in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro but was able to escape that life. Educating people through social media and speeches from celebrities who grew up in poverty can help raise awareness of the issues facing poor children in Brazil.
3. Adriano Leite Ribeiro
Adriano was one of the few who escaped this reality. A visit to his old
bedroom, a box-room on the second floor of house No19 on road
No7, in one of around 800 favelas in Rio de Janeiro, underlines the rags-
to-riches story of one of Brazil's best-known footballers.
4. • Total Population161,087,000
• Child Population 60,228,000
• Children Below Poverty Line 25,000,000
• Living on Streets 7-8,000,000
• Literacy Rate 83%
5. HOW CAN WE MAKE A
DIFFERENCE ?
• Try
to educate people thru multi media such as Facebook,
Youtube etc.
• Famouspeople like Adriano who knows best how a favela is
could make speeches in schools to educate the kids.
6. We think giving money to charity would be just another
helpless action. Thats why we found other ways of helping
children who suffer in poverty.
You can't get rid of poverty by giving people money.
~P.J. O'Rourke, A Parliament of Whores
Famous people such as Adriano have great power and that
is that kids look up to them and see them as role models
and if they start talking about how it is not have a a meal
everyday or to be scared to go outside with your friends
to play because you hear people getting hot outside, then
hopefully people will start realizing that something is
wrong and that they need to stand up and speak up!
7. This was just a small piece of what is actually going on
in the world. We talked about brazil but there are
many other countries in the world who suffer from
the same problems.About 25,000 people die every
day of hunger or hunger-related causes, according to
the United Nations. This is one person every three and
a half seconds, as you can see on the iPad.
Unfortunately, it is children who die most often.
8. It would be nice if the poor were to get even half of the
money that is spent in studying them.
~Bill Vaughan
