Members of ISCT have pioneered mercury chemical decontamination of hydrocarbon process equipment (i.e,, tubing, riser platforms, well flow test equipment, production platforms and FPSOs, sub-sea pipelines, onshore gas deny plants, midstream and downstream processing systems/plants) and have developed proprietary chemistries for decontamination of personnel and equipment at hydrocarbon process plants that have metals (i.e., mercury, arsenic and selenium in inlet streams through process and partitioning to products.

400-91C™
ISCT

ISCT 400-91C™ is a versatile low foam aqueous cleaner with a concentrated
formulation of special cleaning agents effective in removing light to heavy
hydrocarbons, volatile toxic metals and other contaminates. 91C is an effective
wetting agent and penetrating detergent that forms a stable micro-emlusion
with hydrocarbons. Depending on project requirements and hydrocarbon-
metals loading, ISCT™ will blend with primary amines, alcohols, chelation aids,
metals inhibitors and often a hydrogen sulfide scavenger. 91C formulations
include a unique blend of non-toxic, biodegradable solvents with excellent
degreassing and degassing properties.
Many in the hydrocarbon processing industry are aware of mercury, arsenic
and selenium in process and the risk to process, personnel and the environment.
A critical cost and schedule component of maintenance and inspection events
includes selection of chemistry to mitigate risk to personnel entering and exiting
contaminated zones to prevent exposure and cross contamination of plant areas
and equipment. 91C is provided in two primary concentrates 1) decontamina-
tion of personnel and equipment entering and exiting vessels and towers and
2) decontamination of process equipment: both formulas can be manufactured
using traditional chemistry and our environmentally GREEN formula – non toxic,
biodegradable, non corrosive.
ISCT 400-91C™ has been used successfully to decontaminate personnel and
equipment at offshore E&P, midstream, downstream refining and petro-
chemical assets in the Americas, Australasia and Africa.

91CE
91C and 91CE are 2 formulas in the 400 series developed for hydrocarbon/mercury and other contaminates
removal from personnel and equipment during shutdowns and turnarounds at hydrocarbon processing
plants that have mercury in inlet feed streams and throughout process. Since mercury accumulates in
process vessels from the front of the plant to products decontamination of personnel and equipment is
often required to mitigate exposure risks to personnel and prevent cross contamination of surfaces/areas
of the asset. 91C is provided in concentrate to blend on-site to optimal dilution (i.e., removal of hydrocar-
bons and hydrocarbon soluble mercury, and mercury compounds from PPE or process equipment).
91CE was formulated to meet sustainability objectives of energy clients without compromising performance
and efficacy. Both 91C and 91CE can be applied using a variety of methods to meet variable objectives and
performance criteria. Personnel/PPE application methods include low to high pressure spray systems,
mobile showers systems and equipment immersion systems. For decontamination of process equipment
91C is blended onsite with select reactive chemistry and applied via vapor phase (degassing - hydrocarbon
and mercury removal), foaming, cascade and complete fluid circulation. ISCT™ can provide onsite chemical
performance measurements for process systems decontamination to verify a range of objectives.
91C has been in development since 2005 (ISCT-400™ series). Most recently ISCT™ completed important
mercury mass loading, chemical reduction and materials processing research that advanced our chemical
and processing technologies to state-of-the-art. Key objectives achieved in these research programs:
1) enhanced formulations for use in cold water environments (i.e., sub-sea pipeline applications - 10°C)
and 2) development of gel formulas to increase chemical contact time on vertical surfaces (i.e., FPSO
cargo holds) with mercury mass per surface area reductions measured ~99% from the corrosion profile
to metal substrate).
Many companies now strive to implement eco-friendly business practices including ISCT™ as core
elements in growth strategies that create sustainable economic values. ISCT™ is committed to further
development and manufacturing products that minimize risk to the environment during their production,
application and disposal. Chemistries selected for the 400 series consider their application efficacy but
most importantly their safety and subsequent processing requirements and disposal options/alternatives.
