Muskego Twitter
1. Muskego Track and Field
In order to better communicate with parents, athletes, and alumni of the Muskego
High School track and field teams you can now follow the team on Twitter. Twitter
is a free and safe communication service that can send messages of “Tweets” directly
to you e-mail provider or even cell phone. Please take a look at the following
instructions to set this up so you can follow the MHS Track team on Twitter!
What is it?
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay
connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short
updates, often called "tweets” of 140 characters or fewer. These messages are posted
to your profile or your blog, sent to your followers, and are searchable on Twitter
search.
Do I need anything special to use it?
All you need to use Twitter is an internet connection or a mobile phone. Join at
(www.twitter.com/signup) Once you're in, type your first update into the web box.
To get an idea of what other people are saying or doing on Twitter, check out Twitter
search to see what Twitter's all about. You can search by keyword or just check out
the trending topics to see what's hot on Twitter right now.
What does it mean to follow someone on Twitter?
Following someone simply means receiving their Twitter updates. When you follow
someone, every time they post a new message, it will appear on your Twitter home
page. New messages are added to your home page as people post them, so you
always get the updates in real time. When you log in, you can see what the latest
updates are. Twitter offers other ways to follow people too: you can get updates from
certain people on your phone!
2. Who reads my updates?
It's up to you. Your followers read your updates, and anyone else who comes across
them in a search. Your Twitter profile is public by default; if you're hesitant to have
strangers read your updates, protect your profile to approve followers and keep your
updates out of search.
Can I block people from following me?
Yes, you can. If you block someone, they won't be able to follow you or send you any
messages. If your account is public, they'll still be able to view it, but they won't
show up on your followers list, and you won't be on their following list. If it's a
spammer you're blocking, thanks! Twitter Support keeps an eye on block reports to
see who's getting in trouble on Twitter.
Adding your phone number to Twitter (via SMS)
Add your phone from...your phone!
Adding your phone to Twitter makes it easy to tweet from places where even wifi and mobile
web don't work! Send a text with the word START to the number 40404 -- it's easy-- we'll
reply and ask you to sign up if you're new, or reply with your user name if you have an
account.
If you have an account, just reply with your user name. We'll ask you to verify your
password, and if it's correct, we'll post your first tweet and let you know! (If you don't get a
confirmation text right away, just check your profile page to see if your tweet showed up.)
3. If you don't have an account, just reply with SIGN UP. We'll ask you to choose a
user name, and once we receive it, we'll ask for your first tweet!
When you send your tweet, we'll post it to your profile, which you can claim anytime by
entering your phone number on Twitter.com, here.
Get started by sending a (text!) tweet to any of these Twitter numbers: US: 40404
Note: this numbers are for text only; you cannot call them. Folks using international numbers: once your
phone is verified, you'll be able to send but not receive updates from Twitter.
Turning on text tweets for people you follow
To get tweets from others, visit the profile pages of people you follow, or your following
page, and look for the mobile icon. Hover over it to see if mobile tweets are on; click the icon
to turn them off or on.
But that's not all: you can also send ON+username to Twitter, for example:
