Patients’ Attitude Towards
Nursing Students of BPKIHS

Introduction:
• Health care is a social role relationship
between a helping agent and a person
needing help.
• The Social role Relationship is considered
psychologically and socially as half cure
treatment procedure.
• The Super-specialists are demanded by the
hospitals.
• The higher education and increase
awareness contributed the public to
approach the hospitals.
• The nature of relationship between nurse and patient
has some degree of significant impact on the overall
quality of healthcare, the patient’s compliance and
satisfaction is greatly influenced by the appearance,
behavior and the communication skill of the nurses
as nurses stay 24 hours with the clients4.
• With the emerging nursing colleges in the country
and the out flowing number of nursing students in
many hospitals, this complex relationship has more
importance and responsibility than even before.
• Hence, the evaluation of “ Patient’s attitude towards
Nursing students of BPKIHS” is essential.
Objectives of the Study:
• TO ASSESS THE ATTITUDE OF THE
PATIENTS REGARDING THE
PRESENCE AND INVOLVEMENT OF
THE NURSING STUDENTS IN THEIR
CLINICAL CARE IN MEDICAL–
SURGICAL UNITS OF BPKIHS.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY:

Research Design: It was hospital
based cross sectional study design.
Population: The clients admitted in
Medical-Surgical units in the day of
data collection constitute the
population of the study
•

Sampling technique and size: The
stratified simple random sampling
method was used to select the sample
and 75subjects were selected from all
the wards of Medical-Surgical units of
BPKIHS, where only 60 tools were
returned back.
•
•

Tool of the study: Semi structured
questionnaire was used to collect the data.
Methods of data collection: Using pretested semi-structured Questionnaire the
data was collected by trained nurses in the
ordinary dress, to reduce the professional
fear and bias. The collected data was coded
and entered in SPSS-4 package and
analyzed.

Conclusion:
• On the basis of findings, we can conclude that there is not
adequate knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its pathogenesis.
• Only few nurses were aware about the HIV/AIDS services
available at BPKIHS like: VCT, PMTCT, ART, HIV testing, CD-4
count, Counseling and other services.
• Regarding the transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS they
have not sufficient knowledge.
• There is negative attitude among few nurses regarding
HIV/AIDS may be due to inadequate knowledge related to
HIV/AIDS.
• Hence, continuous in-service education on HIV/AIDS
management and care for nurses working in BPKIHS is very
urgency.
Limitations of the study:
• The study was conducted only in the
medical-Surgical Nursing Units of
BPKIHS.
• The findings were based upon the
opinion of the subjects.
• The attitude of patients varies from
individual to individual and it was
difficult to grade also.
Recommendations:
• SIMILAR STUDY CAN BE CONDUCTED
TAKING THE SAMPLES OF ALL UNITS.
• CME CAN BE ARRANGED FOR
NURSING STUDENTS AND NURSES TO
IMPROVE THEIR ATTITUDE.

  • 1. Patients’ Attitude Towards Nursing Students of BPKIHS Ram Sharan Mehta Medical-Surgical Nursing Department College of Nursing B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Dharan, Nepal
  • 2. Introduction: • Health care is a social role relationship between a helping agent and a person needing help. • The Social role Relationship is considered psychologically and socially as half cure treatment procedure. • The Super-specialists are demanded by the hospitals. • The higher education and increase awareness contributed the public to approach the hospitals.
  • 3. • The nature of relationship between nurse and patient has some degree of significant impact on the overall quality of healthcare, the patient’s compliance and satisfaction is greatly influenced by the appearance, behavior and the communication skill of the nurses as nurses stay 24 hours with the clients4. • With the emerging nursing colleges in the country and the out flowing number of nursing students in many hospitals, this complex relationship has more importance and responsibility than even before. • Hence, the evaluation of “ Patient’s attitude towards Nursing students of BPKIHS” is essential.
  • 4. Objectives of the Study: • TO ASSESS THE ATTITUDE OF THE PATIENTS REGARDING THE PRESENCE AND INVOLVEMENT OF THE NURSING STUDENTS IN THEIR CLINICAL CARE IN MEDICAL– SURGICAL UNITS OF BPKIHS.
  • 5. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY: • • Research Design: It was hospital based cross sectional study design. Population: The clients admitted in Medical-Surgical units in the day of data collection constitute the population of the study
  • 6. • Sampling technique and size: The stratified simple random sampling method was used to select the sample and 75subjects were selected from all the wards of Medical-Surgical units of BPKIHS, where only 60 tools were returned back.
  • 7. • • Tool of the study: Semi structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Methods of data collection: Using pretested semi-structured Questionnaire the data was collected by trained nurses in the ordinary dress, to reduce the professional fear and bias. The collected data was coded and entered in SPSS-4 package and analyzed.

Conclusion: • On the basis of findings, we can conclude that there is not adequate knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its pathogenesis. • Only few nurses were aware about the HIV/AIDS services available at BPKIHS like: VCT, PMTCT, ART, HIV testing, CD-4 count, Counseling and other services. • Regarding the transmission and prevention of HIV/AIDS they have not sufficient knowledge. • There is negative attitude among few nurses regarding HIV/AIDS may be due to inadequate knowledge related to HIV/AIDS. • Hence, continuous in-service education on HIV/AIDS management and care for nurses working in BPKIHS is very urgency.
  • 15. Limitations of the study: • The study was conducted only in the medical-Surgical Nursing Units of BPKIHS. • The findings were based upon the opinion of the subjects. • The attitude of patients varies from individual to individual and it was difficult to grade also.
  • 16. Recommendations: • SIMILAR STUDY CAN BE CONDUCTED TAKING THE SAMPLES OF ALL UNITS. • CME CAN BE ARRANGED FOR NURSING STUDENTS AND NURSES TO IMPROVE THEIR ATTITUDE.
