As you move around the campus, activity forms are provided for you to document your
observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the
school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the
activity sheets will yield better learning results.

and it has many vandals at the wall
and trash are not placed properly.

the cleanliness of the place will be
maintanined everyday.

An observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided
space.
1. Describe the community or neighborhood where the school is found.
2. Describe the school, campus. What colors do you see? What is the condition of the
buildings?
3. Pass by the offices. What impression do you have of these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around and find out the
other facilities that the school has.

Date of Visit January 23, 2014
Visiting or going to the school is not that hard because it’s just a walking distance from
CJC and also the school is just beside at the highway (Rizal Avenue) and it has many
establishments surrounding it. When entering the school campus, I can see that the school is big
enough to accommodate the number of students who are enrolled there. I can see plants and
trees which is good because it’s way of showing the students the importance of taking care of
our nature. The buildings of the school look old and need to be renovated. But some of the
buildings are new just like the buildings at their farm. The buildings near the covered court has
2nd floor while the rest are just 1st floor. Walking around the campus, I passed different offices like
the principal’s office, PTA office, Prefect of Discipline office, Guidance office, etc. I can say that
they really provide the needs of the students and these offices can be a great help for them in
their schooling. When we pass in the cafeteria, library, gymnasium, etc. the place was crowded
by students. Some of them are eating, reading, talking, etc. The school is good for me because
it really pays attention to the students by building facilities in order to help them but they should
also pay attention to those classrooms which shows a not favorable environment for the
students to learn.
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to
record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes,
religious figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the teacher’s table
located? How are the tables and chairs/desks arranged?
3. What learning materials/ equipment are present?
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the room well-lighted and well-ventilated?

Date of visit February 27, 2014
When I first entered the room and observed the class, I am so happy because
inside of me, there is that feeling of excitement because this is my first observation in my
FS 1. For me, the room is good because the students are busy with their papers (I think
assignments) and also the room has a big space at back so it doesn’t look like a small
room. The color of the wall of the room is painted with blue and white so it looks so calm
and bright but actually the room was not bright because the room looks so dim. The
teacher’s table is located at the front of the room and it well-varnished and looks new.
The students desks are arranged by rows but some of the desks are unoccupied. In the
room, I can see 13 visual aids posted in the wall. There are four hanging Christmas
parols, three damaged windows, two sacks of garbage bin and one small table at the
back. The students at the front are paying attention to their teacher and those students
at the back are not attentive to their lesson.
My Analysis
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of
the students going to school? What are your conclusions?
School campus or the classroom plays an important role in the learning of the
learners, so its impact must be good. The school campus and the classroom is already
enough to accommodate all students and give the students all their needs. Some
rooms are conducive to learning but some are not. There are many factors that affect
the learning; it can be positive or negative. It depends on the student’s determination
to learn despite of the interferences they encounter.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/ How
does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
In child and adolescent development, I know that the child’s cognitive level is
still developing and they’re still acquiring and constructing knowledge into their minds
so in facilitating learning, topics should involve the appropriate level or mental
operations for a child of given age. I must avoid asking pupils to perform tasks that are
beyond their current cognitive capabilities.
My Reflections
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why
not?
No, because as what O had observed , I think the school environment is not
conducive to learning. The classroom is so close to different factors that might
affect their learning like the noise disturbance, not well ventilated room, the lights
are not enough to make the room bright and the students are not attentive to
their discussion and I don’t want to happen that and I think discipline is what
they need.
2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?
The kind of school that is conducive to learning has a good social,
intellectual and emotional climate. The campus must be the perfect place for
the students to be motivated to learn by providing their needs in their schooling.
The school must be away from any disturbances from the outside and also in
order for the students to learn, the school must focus both in academic and
other activities.
3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?
The kind of classroom that is conducive to learning is well-ventilated, the
lights and appliances are functioning very well, free from any disturbances,
there’s an interaction with the teacher and the students and the students
establishes good camaraderie and all are united.
4. In the future, how can yu accomplish your answer in number 3?
I can accomplish it by designing and organizing first of what will be the
procedures and routines to be implemented to make the class organized and
have an atmosphere conducive to learning. I will use a lot of visual aids to be
posted on the walls and damage lights and appliances must be repaired so that
students will be interested to learn. In the classroom, the students must be the
center of the teaching-learning process.
5. Write your additional learnings and insights here.
As a teacher someday, I must apply the learnings that I learned in making
classroom that is conducive to learning. By this, students will be interested to
learn and be motivated because of the good atmosphere in the room and also I
will organize procedures and routines to make the learning effective. Students
are the center of the learning so I must teach them very well.

My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment
A school “environment” is an essential component of a student’s
life. Schools have a responsibility to provide students with a safe
environment in which to develop academically, emotionally, and
behaviorally, while at the same time developing relationships with
others. There are some necessary qualities that seem to influence
student’s positive results in a school environment. It includes having a
sense of belonging and being a part of a school, liking the school,
perceiving that teachers are supportive and caring, having good
friends within the school, being engaged in their own current and
future academic success and progress, believing that discipline is fair
and effective and participating in extracurricular activities. Students
embrace their environment when they believe that the adults in school
care about their learning and about them as individuals. Students are
more likely to succeed when they feel a connection to school. As
individuals, students who perceive their teachers and school
administrations creating a caring, well-structured learning environment
in which expectations are high, clear, fair, are more likely to be
connected to the school and thrive.

Field Study 1, Episode 1 "The School as a Learning Environment"

  • 1. My Tools As you move around the campus, activity forms are provided for you to document your observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheets will yield better learning results. Science Laboratory  The laboratory has many apparatus and instruments to be used in science class. Gymnasium  The gymnasium is wide and big enough to accommodate big number of students and also the gymnasium is always crowded with students. Auditorium Home Economics Room  The buildings have 2nd floor and it looks old already. Inside, it’s looks like a house. Industrial Workshop Area  The area has many machines and it looks like it is well-used. I can see students there working on their assign task. PTA Office  The office looks good because the room looks well-ventilated and the room has an aircon. Comfort Room for Boys  The comfort room is not so clean and it has many vandals at the wall and trash are not placed properly. Comfort Room for Girls  The girl’s cmfort room looks good if the cleanliness of the place will be maintanined everyday. Others (Please specify). SCHOOL FACILITIES CHECKLIST Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the column to indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available on the last column. Facilities Available Not Available Description Office of the Principal  It’s air-conditioned and the place is relaxing. Many papers and files are arranged at different cabinets. Library  It has many books arranged and the place is so quiet. Counseling Room  The counseling room is nice and good. I can see tables and chairs there and it’s a god room for the students to share their problems. Canteen/Cafeteria  The canteen is crowded by the students and it has many foods sold. It has tables and chairs provided for the teachers as well as the students. Medical Clinic  The clinic is well-ventilated and it has 3 beds. I see many medicines and medical kits. Audio Visual/Media Center Reading Center Speech Laboratory  The speech laboratory is air- conditioned and it has many computers.
  • 2. An observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided space. 1. Describe the community or neighborhood where the school is found. 2. Describe the school, campus. What colors do you see? What is the condition of the buildings? 3. Pass by the offices. What impression do you have of these offices? 4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around and find out the other facilities that the school has. Name of the School Observed Digos City National High School School Address Rizal Avenue, Digos City Date of Visit January 23, 2014 Visiting or going to the school is not that hard because it’s just a walking distance from CJC and also the school is just beside at the highway (Rizal Avenue) and it has many establishments surrounding it. When entering the school campus, I can see that the school is big enough to accommodate the number of students who are enrolled there. I can see plants and trees which is good because it’s way of showing the students the importance of taking care of our nature. The buildings of the school look old and need to be renovated. But some of the buildings are new just like the buildings at their farm. The buildings near the covered court has 2nd floor while the rest are just 1st floor. Walking around the campus, I passed different offices like the principal’s office, PTA office, Prefect of Discipline office, Guidance office, etc. I can say that they really provide the needs of the students and these offices can be a great help for them in their schooling. When we pass in the cafeteria, library, gymnasium, etc. the place was crowded by students. Some of them are eating, reading, talking, etc. The school is good for me because it really pays attention to the students by building facilities in order to help them but they should also pay attention to those classrooms which shows a not favorable environment for the students to learn.
  • 3. An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record your data. 1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes, religious figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted? 2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are arranged. Where is the teacher’s table located? How are the tables and chairs/desks arranged? 3. What learning materials/ equipment are present? 4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room? 5. Is the room well-lighted and well-ventilated? CLASSROOM FACILITIES MATRIX Classroom Facilties Description (location, number, arrangement, condition) 1. Wall Displays Visual aids are posted on the walls and the wall is painted with alternating blue and white paint. 2. Teacher’s Table The teacher’s table is located at the front. The table is well-varnished so it looks like new. 3. Learner’s Desks The learner’s desks are arranged properly at the front but in the back, the desks are not properly arranged or it’s scattered. 4. Blackboard The blackboard is not so good because I can’t clearly see what is written on it. 5. Learning Materials/Visual Aids There are 13 visual aids displayed on the walls and the wall is painted with alternating blue and white. 6. 7. 8.

Name of the School Observed Digos City National High School Location of the School Rizal Avenue, Digos City Date of visit February 27, 2014 When I first entered the room and observed the class, I am so happy because inside of me, there is that feeling of excitement because this is my first observation in my FS 1. For me, the room is good because the students are busy with their papers (I think assignments) and also the room has a big space at back so it doesn’t look like a small room. The color of the wall of the room is painted with blue and white so it looks so calm and bright but actually the room was not bright because the room looks so dim. The teacher’s table is located at the front of the room and it well-varnished and looks new. The students desks are arranged by rows but some of the desks are unoccupied. In the room, I can see 13 visual aids posted in the wall. There are four hanging Christmas parols, three damaged windows, two sacks of garbage bin and one small table at the back. The students at the front are paying attention to their teacher and those students at the back are not attentive to their lesson. My Analysis How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the students going to school? What are your conclusions? School campus or the classroom plays an important role in the learning of the learners, so its impact must be good. The school campus and the classroom is already enough to accommodate all students and give the students all their needs. Some rooms are conducive to learning but some are not. There are many factors that affect the learning; it can be positive or negative. It depends on the student’s determination to learn despite of the interferences they encounter. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/ How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning? In child and adolescent development, I know that the child’s cognitive level is still developing and they’re still acquiring and constructing knowledge into their minds so in facilitating learning, topics should involve the appropriate level or mental operations for a child of given age. I must avoid asking pupils to perform tasks that are beyond their current cognitive capabilities.
  • 5. My Reflections 1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not? No, because as what O had observed , I think the school environment is not conducive to learning. The classroom is so close to different factors that might affect their learning like the noise disturbance, not well ventilated room, the lights are not enough to make the room bright and the students are not attentive to their discussion and I don’t want to happen that and I think discipline is what they need. 2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning? The kind of school that is conducive to learning has a good social, intellectual and emotional climate. The campus must be the perfect place for the students to be motivated to learn by providing their needs in their schooling. The school must be away from any disturbances from the outside and also in order for the students to learn, the school must focus both in academic and other activities. 3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning? The kind of classroom that is conducive to learning is well-ventilated, the lights and appliances are functioning very well, free from any disturbances, there’s an interaction with the teacher and the students and the students establishes good camaraderie and all are united. 4. In the future, how can yu accomplish your answer in number 3? I can accomplish it by designing and organizing first of what will be the procedures and routines to be implemented to make the class organized and have an atmosphere conducive to learning. I will use a lot of visual aids to be posted on the walls and damage lights and appliances must be repaired so that students will be interested to learn. In the classroom, the students must be the center of the teaching-learning process. 5. Write your additional learnings and insights here. As a teacher someday, I must apply the learnings that I learned in making classroom that is conducive to learning. By this, students will be interested to learn and be motivated because of the good atmosphere in the room and also I will organize procedures and routines to make the learning effective. Students are the center of the learning so I must teach them very well.
  • 6. My Portfolio My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment A school “environment” is an essential component of a student’s life. Schools have a responsibility to provide students with a safe environment in which to develop academically, emotionally, and behaviorally, while at the same time developing relationships with others. There are some necessary qualities that seem to influence student’s positive results in a school environment. It includes having a sense of belonging and being a part of a school, liking the school, perceiving that teachers are supportive and caring, having good friends within the school, being engaged in their own current and future academic success and progress, believing that discipline is fair and effective and participating in extracurricular activities. Students embrace their environment when they believe that the adults in school care about their learning and about them as individuals. Students are more likely to succeed when they feel a connection to school. As individuals, students who perceive their teachers and school administrations creating a caring, well-structured learning environment in which expectations are high, clear, fair, are more likely to be connected to the school and thrive.
