Evaluation

My school magazine challenges the conventions of a real magazine by not
including a main image of a person or product. It also has no barcode
because it is going to be a free school magazine. I first planned my
magazine to have the layout as a real magazine but as I progressed through
my planning I realised my magazine would look more creative and original.
The placement of the articles is below the main image. This is because it
will not be shelved, it will be handed out to students around the school.
Another way my magazine challenges the codes and conventions is the
most approved colour pallet for my magazine wasn't used as my plan of the
magazine changed, I developed more creative ideas for the magazine
cover.

How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
• My magazine represents the school as a whole as it represents the
school its self and the people that work in it (pupils, staff,
governors). The reason it represents the school is because it
includes information that is needed to know what is going on in the
school. It includes term dates, available trips, after school clubs
information and much more. The reason for the colored spirals is
this represents the four different houses ( house groups).
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• The institution that would distribute my magazine would be the
school as it includes information for everyone who relates to the
school to keep up to date with all the latest information in school as
shown in the magazine below.
Who would be the audience for your media
product?
• The audience for my school magazine would be pupils, staff,
parents and governors but mostly students as most of the
information is for them and about them. As explained before, pupils
might need or want to know what clubs are going on around school.
The parents would also need to know for their child's safety,
knowing they are going to be somewhere safe. Staff and teachers
are always interested to see the progress of students in the school
and this is a great way of showing them.
How did you attract/address your audience?
By placing the
logo as the
main image,
this attracts an
audience that
is a part of the
school.
By adding the colour
spirals tot he logo, this
attracts the students
because they are a part
of the coloured houses.
The images also
attract the target
audience as it
shows students and
the main office in
the school.
The coloured
font also
relates to the
students as it is
colourful and is
the four colours
of the house
groups.
What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
• I have learnt a wide range of technologies from the construction of
my school magazine. The software involved with the construct my
magazine are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign and Microsoft
PowerPoint. To take the pictures of the students and key places of
the school I used a Nikon D90. I then edited the pictures on Adobe
Photoshop. I then placed the pictures on Adobe Indesign which I
had never used before. After a few hours of assistance from
students and peers, I mastered the uses of the program.

Who would be the audience for your media product? • The audience for my school magazine would be pupils, staff, parents and governors but mostly students as most of the information is for them and about them. As explained before, pupils might need or want to know what clubs are going on around school. The parents would also need to know for their child's safety, knowing they are going to be somewhere safe. Staff and teachers are always interested to see the progress of students in the school and this is a great way of showing them.
  • 7. How did you attract/address your audience? By placing the logo as the main image, this attracts an audience that is a part of the school. By adding the colour spirals tot he logo, this attracts the students because they are a part of the coloured houses. The images also attract the target audience as it shows students and the main office in the school. The coloured font also relates to the students as it is colourful and is the four colours of the house groups.
  • 8. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? • I have learnt a wide range of technologies from the construction of my school magazine. The software involved with the construct my magazine are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign and Microsoft PowerPoint. To take the pictures of the students and key places of the school I used a Nikon D90. I then edited the pictures on Adobe Photoshop. I then placed the pictures on Adobe Indesign which I had never used before. After a few hours of assistance from students and peers, I mastered the uses of the program.
