Executive Director’s Welcome
Dear Guests,
It is with warm thanks and enormous appreciation that I welcome you to Casino Royale. With an amazing team
of volunteers, a supportive Host Committee and truly wonderful volunteers – we are able to be here today to
celebrate a very important occasion for Powerful Beyond Measure (PBM).

Five years ago, PBM formed with a goal to impact youth by exposing them to enriching experiences, positive
adults and amazing opportunities. I’m proud to say, over the years, PBM has accomplished a great deal in promot-
ing the academic, creative, professional, civic and personal growth of children by integrating the arts, entertain-
ment, sports and media industries into programming. Our strategy was to find a way to truly engage children who
were not responsive to other programs or who needed a program that addressed the multiple needs of developing
adolescents.

Thanks to support we have been able to expand our programs exponentially. Examples include:

• NYC Series since 2007 – Essence Magazine for media workshop; NFL Headquarters for meetings w/ execs; on
BET’s 106th & Park; Broadway shows Hairspray & The Color Purple!

• Upgrading our academic & tutoring component to include Entrepreneurship, Spanish, Music, Sign Langauge &
World Affairs.

• Presenting CAPE League Feeds DC on Global Youth Service Day for three years. The youth prepared 500+
meals, delivered to 7 shelters and over 200 people around DC.

• Providing 30+ individual mentors and 40+ group mentors to the kids in our program

• Developing a sports component to expose and engage kids in tennis, boxing, football and classes in the Afro-
Brazilian martial arts form, Capoiera – all led by professional athletes.

• Launching a CD project to engage kids in lyric writing, production, piano/voice lessons, studio sessions, radio
interviews, and a performance tour to community organizations.

• Hosting 10 Exploring Possibilities creative Career Days for over 300 youth in the DC area

• Taking youth to the Kennedy Center, Verizon Center & Warner Theater for performances, festivals, plays and
other events 35+ times

• Exposure to special opportunities: Grand party for Nickelodeon’s Halo Awards w/ Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey;
Washington Wizards “12 Days of Holiday Cheer”; private clinic w/ Washington Mystics on MTV’s The Real World;
trip to Los Angeles for Watkins Sports Conference & Weekend; VIP invite to hear Russell Simmons speak; and
more

A special thank you to our volunteer staff, past and present contributors, and Board of Directors for their dedica-
tion through the years. Finally, I’d like to thank all of the PBM families and community partners we have had the
pleasure of working with. With your continued support, I look forward to seeing what PBM will accomplish the
next five years and beyond!

                                                                              Tracy Press Executive Director
Powerful Beyond Measure
Powerful Beyond Measure Celebrates FIVE YEARS of dedicated and
consistent service to youth & families!
Powerful Beyond Measure (PBM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that implements efforts towards youth de-
velopment; focusing on academic, professional, creative, personal, civic and social growth by strategi-
cally integrating the arts, entertainment, sports and media industries into programming. Our vision is to
utilize these influential fields to reach the urban com-
munities of our targeted youth, via creative and multi-
dimensional services that will help positively shape
young people and empower the adults around them to
become active leaders and contributors.

PBM utilizes the arts, entertainment and sports as
tools to motivate. This approach was developed upon
the realization that these fields are powerful by way
of their appeal and influence on our target population.
By harnessing that power to make programs more
appealing, we can continue to implement the important
values and societal offerings of more conventional
non-profits.

PBM is volunteer run. It is primarily funded by dona-
CAPE Kids at Vernon Davis NFL Camp
tions and corporate sponsorships. Founded in 2006,
the organization began with its charter program, C.A.P League – a multi-dimensional youth program.
                                                        .E.
In 2007, we launched Exploring Possibilities, a unique career day for young adults to discover non-tra-
ditional professions. Since 2008, we have produced PBM’s Weekly Source Email – an on-line newsletter
distributed to DC area residents, community groups and non-profits. It lists public events, job openings,
services, scholarships and programs. PBM also offers the EO List – a weekly listing of jobs across the
nation in the media, marketing, publishing and sports.

Powerful Beyond Measure believes we can help each other realize our potential for greatness, inspire
the pursuit of success, and make powerful strides by working together for altruistic purposes.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond mea-
sure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing
small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t
feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the
glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own
fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Aidah Collection is one of Washington DC’s premier fashion
houses and a red carpet choice of actress Gabrielle Union. It
is an ethical, uniquely chic line inspired by the beauty of nature
within urban existence. Each handmade garment is brushed in
Aidah’s signature gold emblem, creating a limited couture collection. The style is versatile and unique, with
designs that fit by wrapping or tying. Aidah Collection’s ethical mission is to empower women and protect
the environment through the support of charitable organizations and artists. Designer Aidah Fontenot
studied advanced fine arts as a child and designed her first fashion collection as a teenager.
Ean Williams came up with Corjor International as his label’s
name by combining his two oldest sons’ names, Corey and Jor-
dan. Ean landed in the pages of Upscale Magazine (Feb 2004),
front page of the Gazette, and is now a Washington Life Creative
List stylist. He wants to go a step further by producing & spon-
soring DC Fashion Week. Ean is an advisory board member for the Black Fashion Designers Association,
Inc. In 2003, Ean won the “INDIE Best Menswear Designer” award in New York. After gracing the front
page of the Washington Times newspaper in 2009, Ean decided to take his brand international. Cor-
jor International had its first European debut at Belgrade, Serbia in June of 2010 and was invited back in
December to showcase in Lviv, Ukraine. Both shows produced excellent reviews. His most recent honor
is the 2010 Fashion Icon Award. Corjor International consists of three brands: Corjor Sport, Corjor Mens-
wear and available by special order, Corjor Couture. Williams recently launched an additional line by the
name of Corjor Magnum series, a couture brief collection for men.
Chic. Modern. Sleek. The Natalia Sanz Collection. Inspired by architecture, geometry,
and texture, Natalia creates classic silhouettes with modern details. Her creations
include elegant cocktail dresses and separates that are versatile enough to go from
day to night. Silk, satin, cotton, and jersey are some of the fabrics she favors because
of their beauty and elegance as well as their ability to accentuate a woman’s curves.
While earning her Bachelor’s Degree in fashion design at Miami International Univer-
sity of Art and Design, Natalia’s designs were featured in Miami Fashion Week and
Funkshion Fashion Week. Upon returning to Washington D.C., she began her career by
designing pieces for Circle Boutique and Dekka Showroom. Recently, her designs were
featured in the D.C. Fashion Week in the Couture Collections show and Crystal Couture.
She is now working on an upcoming collection in her Maryland studio. In addition to
haute couture clothing designs, Natalia designs a jewelry collection. Her jewelry line,
like her clothing line, is elegant and sophisticated. She creates long stunning earrings,
dramatic pendant necklaces, and gorgeous bracelets. The Natalia Sanz Collection of-
fers a sophisticated balance of classic and modern design perfect for the avant-garde woman.
STUDIO DMAXSI, founded in 2006 by Afua Sam, creates women’s wear masterpieces for the confident,
chic and classy modern woman. Designer Afua Sam is originally from Ghana, West Africa. Her journey
in fashion begun 15 years ago in her homeland. Most of her designs are made
out of silk-based fabrics and a touch of some African fabric, which is made of
cotton, specifically known as Woodin. Her choice in fabric is intended to rep-
resent bridging the gap between African culture and western culture. One of
Studio Dmaxsi’s passion as a fashion house is her commitment to give back to
her community. She has been a part of Fashion for World Peace where all the
proceeds are donated to charity works like its “Schools for Africa Project”. She
has also been a part of the Steps to The Cure for Breast Cancer Fashion Show
which works towards creating an awareness of breast cancer and the money raised goes to Susan G.
Komen for breast cancer research. Afua is also bent on empowering young women, be it academically or
the arts. She believes in the reinforcement of the confidence of women which makes for a better world
and that is why Afua’s Foundation is working on the improvement of self-esteem and the education of
young women.

people in the DC metro area with a broad education and great opportunities that will influence them
positively. The program’s strategy is to reach out to youth who are not responsive to other pro-
grams, or in special situations, and engage them per their interests
in the arts, entertainment, sports or media– while developing them in
a variety of other key areas. It is designed to provide an outlet for
both fun and enrichment, while providing the pathway for personal
growth. The League aims to be a part of its members’ entire adoles-
cence, serving them throughout their formidable years.

C.A.P is an acronym for the components of the League and
     .E.
what we focus our activities on:
                                                                         CAPE Kids at Essence Magazine
       C – Community Involvement
       A – Academic Enhancement
P – Personal and Professional Development
E – Entertainment, Sports, Media and Arts

The League is geared toward youth who may not be exposed to or able to afford to take part in pro-
ductive and diverse activities. We recruit youth who are classified as “at-risk”, are from foster homes,
a part of single parent and/or lower-income families, or have
social or academic inadequacies. However, the program is open
to all youth who wish to welcome new opportunities. We aim
to provide an outlet for stimulating occupation; while presenting
activities that educate and enhance them beyond the classroom.
Throughout their membership, they are introduced to the busi-
ness of entertainment and sports; as well as the performing,
                                       literary, and visual arts.

  • 3. Executive Director’s Welcome Dear Guests, It is with warm thanks and enormous appreciation that I welcome you to Casino Royale. With an amazing team of volunteers, a supportive Host Committee and truly wonderful volunteers – we are able to be here today to celebrate a very important occasion for Powerful Beyond Measure (PBM). Five years ago, PBM formed with a goal to impact youth by exposing them to enriching experiences, positive adults and amazing opportunities. I’m proud to say, over the years, PBM has accomplished a great deal in promot- ing the academic, creative, professional, civic and personal growth of children by integrating the arts, entertain- ment, sports and media industries into programming. Our strategy was to find a way to truly engage children who were not responsive to other programs or who needed a program that addressed the multiple needs of developing adolescents. Thanks to support we have been able to expand our programs exponentially. Examples include: • NYC Series since 2007 – Essence Magazine for media workshop; NFL Headquarters for meetings w/ execs; on BET’s 106th & Park; Broadway shows Hairspray & The Color Purple! • Upgrading our academic & tutoring component to include Entrepreneurship, Spanish, Music, Sign Langauge & World Affairs. • Presenting CAPE League Feeds DC on Global Youth Service Day for three years. The youth prepared 500+ meals, delivered to 7 shelters and over 200 people around DC. • Providing 30+ individual mentors and 40+ group mentors to the kids in our program • Developing a sports component to expose and engage kids in tennis, boxing, football and classes in the Afro- Brazilian martial arts form, Capoiera – all led by professional athletes. • Launching a CD project to engage kids in lyric writing, production, piano/voice lessons, studio sessions, radio interviews, and a performance tour to community organizations. • Hosting 10 Exploring Possibilities creative Career Days for over 300 youth in the DC area • Taking youth to the Kennedy Center, Verizon Center & Warner Theater for performances, festivals, plays and other events 35+ times • Exposure to special opportunities: Grand party for Nickelodeon’s Halo Awards w/ Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey; Washington Wizards “12 Days of Holiday Cheer”; private clinic w/ Washington Mystics on MTV’s The Real World; trip to Los Angeles for Watkins Sports Conference & Weekend; VIP invite to hear Russell Simmons speak; and more A special thank you to our volunteer staff, past and present contributors, and Board of Directors for their dedica- tion through the years. Finally, I’d like to thank all of the PBM families and community partners we have had the pleasure of working with. With your continued support, I look forward to seeing what PBM will accomplish the next five years and beyond! Tracy Press Executive Director
  • 4. Powerful Beyond Measure Powerful Beyond Measure Celebrates FIVE YEARS of dedicated and consistent service to youth & families! Powerful Beyond Measure (PBM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that implements efforts towards youth de- velopment; focusing on academic, professional, creative, personal, civic and social growth by strategi- cally integrating the arts, entertainment, sports and media industries into programming. Our vision is to utilize these influential fields to reach the urban com- munities of our targeted youth, via creative and multi- dimensional services that will help positively shape young people and empower the adults around them to become active leaders and contributors. PBM utilizes the arts, entertainment and sports as tools to motivate. This approach was developed upon the realization that these fields are powerful by way of their appeal and influence on our target population. By harnessing that power to make programs more appealing, we can continue to implement the important values and societal offerings of more conventional non-profits. PBM is volunteer run. It is primarily funded by dona- CAPE Kids at Vernon Davis NFL Camp tions and corporate sponsorships. Founded in 2006, the organization began with its charter program, C.A.P League – a multi-dimensional youth program. .E. In 2007, we launched Exploring Possibilities, a unique career day for young adults to discover non-tra- ditional professions. Since 2008, we have produced PBM’s Weekly Source Email – an on-line newsletter distributed to DC area residents, community groups and non-profits. It lists public events, job openings, services, scholarships and programs. PBM also offers the EO List – a weekly listing of jobs across the nation in the media, marketing, publishing and sports. Powerful Beyond Measure believes we can help each other realize our potential for greatness, inspire the pursuit of success, and make powerful strides by working together for altruistic purposes. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond mea- sure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson from A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles For more information, please visit: www.PowerBeyondMeasure.org.

  • 6. Fashion Show Meet the Designers Aidah Collection is one of Washington DC’s premier fashion houses and a red carpet choice of actress Gabrielle Union. It is an ethical, uniquely chic line inspired by the beauty of nature within urban existence. Each handmade garment is brushed in Aidah’s signature gold emblem, creating a limited couture collection. The style is versatile and unique, with designs that fit by wrapping or tying. Aidah Collection’s ethical mission is to empower women and protect the environment through the support of charitable organizations and artists. Designer Aidah Fontenot studied advanced fine arts as a child and designed her first fashion collection as a teenager. Ean Williams came up with Corjor International as his label’s name by combining his two oldest sons’ names, Corey and Jor- dan. Ean landed in the pages of Upscale Magazine (Feb 2004), front page of the Gazette, and is now a Washington Life Creative List stylist. He wants to go a step further by producing & spon- soring DC Fashion Week. Ean is an advisory board member for the Black Fashion Designers Association, Inc. In 2003, Ean won the “INDIE Best Menswear Designer” award in New York. After gracing the front page of the Washington Times newspaper in 2009, Ean decided to take his brand international. Cor- jor International had its first European debut at Belgrade, Serbia in June of 2010 and was invited back in December to showcase in Lviv, Ukraine. Both shows produced excellent reviews. His most recent honor is the 2010 Fashion Icon Award. Corjor International consists of three brands: Corjor Sport, Corjor Mens- wear and available by special order, Corjor Couture. Williams recently launched an additional line by the name of Corjor Magnum series, a couture brief collection for men. Chic. Modern. Sleek. The Natalia Sanz Collection. Inspired by architecture, geometry, and texture, Natalia creates classic silhouettes with modern details. Her creations include elegant cocktail dresses and separates that are versatile enough to go from day to night. Silk, satin, cotton, and jersey are some of the fabrics she favors because of their beauty and elegance as well as their ability to accentuate a woman’s curves. While earning her Bachelor’s Degree in fashion design at Miami International Univer- sity of Art and Design, Natalia’s designs were featured in Miami Fashion Week and Funkshion Fashion Week. Upon returning to Washington D.C., she began her career by designing pieces for Circle Boutique and Dekka Showroom. Recently, her designs were featured in the D.C. Fashion Week in the Couture Collections show and Crystal Couture. She is now working on an upcoming collection in her Maryland studio. In addition to haute couture clothing designs, Natalia designs a jewelry collection. Her jewelry line, like her clothing line, is elegant and sophisticated. She creates long stunning earrings, dramatic pendant necklaces, and gorgeous bracelets. The Natalia Sanz Collection of- fers a sophisticated balance of classic and modern design perfect for the avant-garde woman. STUDIO DMAXSI, founded in 2006 by Afua Sam, creates women’s wear masterpieces for the confident, chic and classy modern woman. Designer Afua Sam is originally from Ghana, West Africa. Her journey in fashion begun 15 years ago in her homeland. Most of her designs are made out of silk-based fabrics and a touch of some African fabric, which is made of cotton, specifically known as Woodin. Her choice in fabric is intended to rep- resent bridging the gap between African culture and western culture. One of Studio Dmaxsi’s passion as a fashion house is her commitment to give back to her community. She has been a part of Fashion for World Peace where all the proceeds are donated to charity works like its “Schools for Africa Project”. She has also been a part of the Steps to The Cure for Breast Cancer Fashion Show which works towards creating an awareness of breast cancer and the money raised goes to Susan G. Komen for breast cancer research. Afua is also bent on empowering young women, be it academically or the arts. She believes in the reinforcement of the confidence of women which makes for a better world and that is why Afua’s Foundation is working on the improvement of self-esteem and the education of young women.
