Nowadays, with easy access to the internet and social
media, employers are using a new tactic, one that lets them
see you before you turn up on the door step, social media!
So here is our list of things not to do and change on your
social media accounts to make you more employable
and less disposable.

3. #1 Don’t swear
Bad language never looks good. You wouldn’t include it on
your CV so don’t put it on your social media.
#2 Don’t rant
Most companies now have social media policies which set out
what is not acceptable to share when working for their business
however if you are already slating people or companies openly on
your social media it will sound alarm bells for business integrity.

4. #3 Limit what you share
There are something’s that need to be kept private.
No-one needs to know the private details of your life
especially your potential boss.
#4 Be careful who you follow
Following radical or offensive groups may cause potential
employers to discriminate against you thinking that you
hold these views personally.

5. #5 Don’t ALWAYS be online
Always being online shows several things:
1. That you are potentially a stalker … never a good thing!…
2. You are using it while you are meant to be working
3. You aren’t being that proactive about your job search.
#6 Check your pictures
We all have pictures that we wouldn’t want our mum let alone
as our bosses so, if it is inappropriate either hide it from public
view or delete it.

6. #7 Give yourself a memorable but appropriate username
Stay away from using swear words or offence language in your
username. Either keep it simply to your name (so that you are
easy to find) or make sure that it is appropriate.
#8 Use social media to your advantage
Make a number of accounts across different social platforms so
that you can network with people, share things about your life
that build up your profile and create/share great content.

7. #9 Think about having a blog/micro-blog
This is something that people can link to find out more about
your likes, dislikes, things you do, what’s important to you,
what inspires you etc.
#10 Tell people about it
If you have a great blog, professional LinkedIn account or
your work is displayed online somewhere let people know
about it. Share content across social media sites and
reference the link in your CV/E-mail. This also makes sure
that if a company search for you online they wont come up
with the wrong person.
