OSGi Community Event 2015 The IoT Expert Group is the newest Expert Group in the OSGi Alliance, but what exactly is an Expert Group, and what does it do? What does that mean for OSGi as an IoT platform?</p> This talk from the chair of the IoT Expert Group will cover the progress of the IoT Expert Group since its creation in July, what outputs we can expect to see in the future, and also information about how you can get involved with the Expert Group. The OSGi service platform has existed as a modular micro-service runtime for well over a decade, and it was originally created to run on small embedded systems in the home. It turns out that the same model works very well on servers and in the cloud, making OSGi the perfect platform for end-to-end IoT development. In the last twelve months the OSGi Alliance have been on an IoT requirements gathering mission, the result of which has been the new IoT Expert Group. Fresh from their first official meeting in Turin the IoT Expert Group is now ready to start the process of building new standards within the Alliance. If you're interested in getting involved, or just curious about what's going on, then come along to find out more.

Ericsson Research recently released its web browser Bowser and the underlying framework OpenWebRTC as free and open source. OpenWebRTC is a cross-platform WebRTC client framework that can be used to build both native WebRTC apps and browser back-ends. Bowser is built on top of OpenWebRTC. When first released in October of 2012, Bowser was the world's first WebRTC-enabled browser for mobile devices. It is still the only WebRTC enabled browser on iOS. OpenWebRTC is the world’s second independent Open Source WebRTC implementation

Quick introduction to Kamailio, the open source SIP server (https://www.kamailio.org). Kamailio® (successor of former OpenSER and SER) is an Open Source SIP Server released under GPL, able to handle thousands of call setups per second. Kamailio can be used to build large platforms for VoIP and realtime communications – presence, WebRTC, Instant messaging and other applications. Moreover, it can be easily used for scaling up SIP-to-PSTN gateways, PBX systems or media servers like Asterisk™, FreeSWITCH™ or SEMS.

The Canaan AvalonMiner 721 is hardware blockchain securing hardware technology built using Open Source software. The latest hardware AvalonMiner 721 contains 72 customized ASIC processors named Canaan A3212 which are harmonized together and then across potentially thousands of other AvalonMiners, to do SHA-256 hashing calculations. From the software toolchain all the way to OpenWrt used in Canaan's AvalonMiner Controller, this presentation describes the entire process from start to finish how the software is built, developed, launched and maintained. Of specific interest are the contributions by Canaan back to the Open Source community, including to CGMiner, OpenWRT and other projects.

HTML5 WebRTC, for Web Real Time Communications is free, open secifications to enable rich, high quality, Real Time Communications applications to be developed in the browser via simple Javascript APIs and HTML5. Major browsers already support or will support it soon natively. This talk will present an overview of WebRTC, how it is already revolutionizing the Web and changing the Telco industry. A couple of emblematic use cases will be also explored to show the potential of WebRTC in different enterprise markets and a live demo of a 1 to 1 WebRTC Video Conference will also be performed followed by a detailed explanation on how it was achieved as well as what JBoss AS7 additions were required to make it work

A session in the DevNet Zone at Cisco Live, Berlin. This session will walk participants through the Infinite Toolkit (Application Developer Kit) to show the features of the platform and how to use the open APIs to build TV applications. The session will cover an example of building part of an EPG (Electronic Program Guide) and some of the application work we have done with our Partners. The session will also show some ideas for other non-EPG applications that can be enabled via the Infinite Toolkit. Goal: To demonstrate the openness of the main SPVSS product to our customers, partners and other Cisco BUs. To open up discussions around future direction and integration of Infinite Solutions with other Cisco products and partner and customer systems. SPVSS Customers have a desire to get their TV applications available on a broad range of devices and to enable a high velocity of change. To do this at scale Cisco needs to enable them to either use a development partner or enable themselves to develop and integrate the TV applications. The Infinite Toolkit is the means to enable our customers to do this.

Solutions to the problem of gathering and processing data in large-scale wireless sensor networks in the industrial IoT. The rapid growth of wireless SCADA networks based on technologies like LoRa and 6LoWPAN has given birth to the problem of gathering and processing data from thousands of sensors and replicating this data to the cloud and to devices based on ARMv7+. This report addresses ways and methods of solving this problem, including solutions for low-speed gateways and devices in industrial IoT networks.

When people think about WebRTC, they think about video calls inside a web browser. WebRTC is much more than that. WebRTC can be used to create fundamentally better experiences by embedding live, peer-to-peer communications in SaaS products, mobile apps, and websites. But what is the state of WebRTC today? What does it take for a business to really reap the benefits? My slide deck from the session I gave at Twilio's Signal event May 2015.

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount

Sara Mae O’Brien Scott and Tatiana Baquero Cakici, Senior Consultants at Enterprise Knowledge (EK), presented “AI Fast Track to Search-Focused AI Solutions” at the Information Architecture Conference (IAC24) that took place on April 11, 2024 in Seattle, WA. In their presentation, O’Brien-Scott and Cakici focused on what Enterprise AI is, why it is important, and what it takes to empower organizations to get started on a search-based AI journey and stay on track. The presentation explored the complexities of enterprise search challenges and how IA principles can be leveraged to provide AI solutions through the use of a semantic layer. O’Brien-Scott and Cakici showcased a case study where a taxonomy, an ontology, and a knowledge graph were used to structure content at a healthcare workforce solutions organization, providing personalized content recommendations and increasing content findability. In this session, participants gained insights about the following: Most common types of AI categories and use cases; Recommended steps to design and implement taxonomies and ontologies, ensuring they evolve effectively and support the organization’s search objectives; Taxonomy and ontology design considerations and best practices; Real-world AI applications that illustrated the value of taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs; and Tools, roles, and skills to design and implement AI-powered search solutions.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies
