An expert system is a software application that attempts to
reproduce the performance of one or more experts.
Experts system has many points of contact with
General systems theory
Operations research
Business process reengineering
Applied mathematics
Management science
3. Expert system in agriculture
Expert systems can be effectively used to provide proper
advise to the farmers in the area of
Nutrition management

6. METHODOLOGY
• Contents collected from different sources
• Organized farmers’ workshop / meetings /
brainstorming
• Collected contents - Organized - Validated with help of
concerned Scientists
• Images and Video clippings documented in all critical
stages of the crops
14. PULSE EXPERT
Devraj and Jain studied the design and development of an
expert system for the diagnosis and control of diseases in
pulse crops (PulseExpert).
PulseExpert is an operational automatic diagnostic tool that
helps farmers and extension workers to identify diseases of
major pulse crops viz., Chickpea, Pigeonpea, Mungbean and
Urdbean (highly consumed pulse crops) and suggests the
appropriate control measures.
15. Automatic knowledge acquisition system of
PulseExpert provides user-friendly interface to the
domain experts for entering, storing and structuring
the domain specific knowledge.
The knowledge base of Pulse Expert contains up-to-
date knowledge about 19 major diseases of pulses
appearing right from seedling to maturity.
16. EXPERT SYSTEM FOR LEAF DISEASE DETECTION
AND DIAGNOSIS
El- Helly, Rafea and El- Gammal developed an integrated
image processing expert system capable of diagnosing three
disorders, Downy mildew with percentage 84%, Leafminer
with percentage 74%,
Powdery mildew with percentage 94%. Also, the system is
capable of deciding the normal leaves with a percentage 98%.
Moreover, the system is capable to recognizing the unknown
disorder with a percentage 92%.
17. ADVANTAGES
Ready to use by end user as advisory system.
Provides consistent answers for repetitive decisions,
process and tasks.
Holds and maintains significant levels of
information.
Never forgets to ask a question as human might do.
18. DISADVANTAGES
Lacks common sense in decision making.
Cannot make creative responses as human do.
Not able to explain the logic and reasoning.
Cannot adopt to changing environments, unless
knowledge base is changed.
