The AppExchange is Salesforce’s online marketplace for cloud computing applications. It is kind of like the Salesforce version of iTunes. The AppExchange is where you can find apps or solutions to extend your functionality like doing online donation processing or integrating with Quickbooks. The AppExchange includes tags to allow nonprofits to search for app providers that discount their paid apps to nonprofit organizations as well as consulting companies that offer discounted pricing for nonprofits. There are also free apps like the Foundation’s own Nonprofit Starter Pack.
Salesforce is an incredibly powerful, incredibly scalable and incredibly customizable application. It is not, however, the right solution for EVERY organization. And we don’t want you to use our product because it is free. We want you to use our product because it will help you more effectively achieve your mission.
One of our super users once said that getting 10 free licenses of salesforce was kind of like getting a free puppy. ANIMATION: While the puppy was free, it is going to require some investment of time, skill and money to get that puppy to grow into a well trained best friend.Essentially, salesforceisn’t a product that most organizations can turn on and start using effectively on day 1. Salesforce is an enterprise level solution and it requires some initial customization in order for you to get the most out of it. Most of that customization can be done in what we call a point-and-click interface, but effective customization requires some combination of either time, technical skill and/or a budget to hire a consultant.
Over the last year or so, the Foundation has been researching what kinds of organizations are most successful using Salesforce CRM. In general, we’ve found that the organizations that are successful using Salesforce:have a clear idea of what they want to accomplish with the technologyhave a skilled technical resource or consultant dedicated to their implementationhave identified someone on staff who will serve as their System Administrator and the go to person for end users who need helphave senior management who are planning on actively using the producthave an organization is somewhat flexible and open to changeObviously, there are many exceptions to these generalities, but again, we want you to be best prepared to take advantage of this technology.
The license discount and donation program is open to most 501c3 nonprofit organizations in the United States and Canada, but there are a few exceptions. Please review the eligibility requirements on our website carefully at www.salesforcefoundation.org/eligibility. There you can also review eligibility for organizations based outside of the United States.
Your acceptance into the Power of Us program will be renewed annually. You must be actively using your licenses for them to be renewed. So please do not apply for the Power of Us program until you are ready to actively implement and use the licenses. You must also agree to and abide by our Master Service Agreement which can be found on our website at www.salesforcefoundation.org/msa
In order to join the Power of Us program, start a trial of salesforce to determine if the product is a good fit for your organization. Your trial will become your live instance of salesforce once your application has been approved. You will have 30 days from the time you start the trial to complete the application. During the application process, you will be asked to locate your organizational ID. Your organizational ID is the number that is used to determine which trial will become your live org when your donation is processed. To find your organizational ID, login to salesforce, choose setup, admin setup and then company information. You will find the organizational ID on the bottom right side. If you do not complete the application within 30 days, we will assume that you are not interested in our product and your trial will expire. Any data entered into that trial will also be deleted. To request a trial extension, please email powerofus@salesforce.comYour donation application will be processed in 7 to 14 business days. Please do not contact us to verify the status of your application until after 14 business days. If you have questions about the application process, please contact powerofus@salesforce.com
