3. LIMITATIONS
OPERATION IN ICING CONDITIONS :
Icing conditions may exist whenever the Outside Air
Temperature (OAT) on the ground or for takeoff, or
Total Air
Temperature (TAT) in flight, is 10°C or below and
visible
moisture in any form is present such as clouds, fog
with
visibility of one mile or less, rain, snow, sleet, and ice
crystals
4. * The TO DATASET MENU on the MCDU must be set to
ENG in the
following cases when OAT is between 5°C and 10°C
* The TO DATASET MENU on the MCDU must be set
to ALL in the
following cases when OAT is below 5°C
CAUTION: ON GROUND, DO NOT RELY ON
VISUAL ICING
EVIDENCE OR ICE DETECTOR ACTUATION TO
TURN
ON THE ANTI-ICING SYSTEM.
5. MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED
CROSSWIND
Wet Runway....................................31 kt
Runway with Compacted Snow....... 20 kt
Runway with Standing Water/Slush/Wet Snow/Dry
Snow....... ………………………………………18 kt
Runway with Ice (no melting)..... ……12 kt
6. Takeoff is prohibited if the following
conditions :
A- Heavy fall of wet snow with OAT at
freezing point .
B-Moderate heavy freezing rain.
C- When the runway breaking action
reported (mid-poor or poor )
OM:8.2.4.15
7. SYSTEM OVER VIEW
* Failure of one ice detector results in the loss of system
redundancy. If an
icing condition is detected by the remaining sensor, the
engine and wing
anti-ice systems will automatically activate
* ADS Probe Heaters button :
If probes are contaminated, push in and verify light
illuminates.
NOTE: Do not turn on the heaters while the airplane is
energized by
batteries, to avoid battery discharge
8. ENGINE AND WING ANTI-ICE SYSTEMS
OPERATION
* The anti-ice considered the takeoff phase
Using MCDU till 1700 ft AGL or 2 min after liftoff. After,
the engine and wing anti-ice valves will use ice detectors .
* Selecting the MODE SELECTOR KNOB …ON
overrides the system logic on ground :
- Engine anti-ice open after engine start
- Wing anti-ice open after lift-off .
- In flight open both regardless of icing condition.
* Selecting ALL on MCDU : Open ENG anti-ice after
engine start , and Wing anti-ice after wheel speed
> 40KT. While mode switch on AUTO.
9. After landing, the Ice Protection
System should be activated
manually ON if icing conditions
exist
Rev- 13
12. 1. * BATTERY TEMP…MIN -20 deg c
2. * HYDRAULIC WARM UP REQURIED
IN CASE RESERVOIR TEMP
IS BELOW -18 DEG C .
3. * ADS probe heaters … Check requried.
13. AIRPLANE DEICING FLUID
APPLICATION
1-Parking break ….ON
2-SLAT/FLAP…………UP
3-PITCH TRIM………FULL NOSE DOWN
4-APU BLEED………PUSH OUT
5-ENGINE BLEED….PUSH OUT
6-PACKS……………….PUSH OUT
14. AFTER DEICING COMPLETE
WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE
1- APU BLEED …………PUSH IN
2-ENGINE BLEED……..PUSH IN
WAIT AT LEAST 3 MINUTES
PACKS BUTTONS………..PUSH IN
TAKE TIME OF START OF FLUID APPLICATION
TYPE OF FLUID & CONCENTRATION.
15. HOLD OVER TIME
* lower time limit ,indicate protection during
moderate precipitation.
* upper time limit ,indicate protection during
light precipitation.
starts from fluid application till the start of take off.
*conditions can reduce holdover time:
- Hi wind , - jet blast , - heavy precipitation
follow the holdover table OM:8.2.4.82
16. Caution:
If hold over time expires before take off ,
return to another deicing application.
Do not assume that ice will be blown off
during take off.
OM:8.2.4.5
17. TYPE II FLUID
Embraer -170 approved specification
SAE AMS 1428
Can be used from zero till -25 C
Mixtures of : Glycol, water, inhibitors
wetting agent
19. Before take off :
*Flight controls…………check..(full travel)
*Pitch trim ……………….set
*Slat/flap…………………..set
*Takeoff configuration…..,check
*Ice accumulation……..check…both pilots
(wing ,leading edge, engine, holdover time )
*Engine run up ………(54 N1 for 30sec)
Assumed temperature reduced thrust is not
allowed when runway is
contaminated with water, ice, slush or snow
20. Climb , Cruise , Descent
If engine vibration increases , reduce
thrust to idle , then advance to 70%N1
for 10-30 sec , then return to desired
setting.
22. AFTER LANDING :
*ENGINE & WING ANTI ICE ……AS REQ
( ON , IF STILL ICE CONDITION EXIST)
*SLAT/FLAP…………AS REQ
(CHECK FREE FROM ICE )
23. QRH:
A-I LO CAPACITY
Thrust Levers............... ADVANCE
A-I LO CAPACITY MESSAGE PERSISTS?
IF YES:
Icing Conditions............... EXIT/AVOID
IF NO
END
24. ICE DETECTOR 1 (2) FAIL
When flying in icing conditions:
Ice Protection Mode Selector... ON
Two minutes after exiting icing
conditions:
Ice Protection Mode Selector... AUTO
END
