2. Mise En Scene proved to be a challenge
throughout the whole filming process, and in
some scenes more than others. For example,
when filming at school and in the corridors, it
wasn’t a huge worry since we were in the ideal
location to shoot, a school, therefore conveying
realism within those scenes for the most part.
However, not every scene was portrayed in the
exact setting we depicted within the script.
3. Filming at Talia’s
When filming at Talia’s house, we had the issue with family portraits of her
and her family nailed to the walls, we could not take them off for they were
drilled down, so we had to be crafty and think of ways we could cover these
pictures, without interfering with the scene in any way. At first we tried to
change the camera angles, however at both angles there is a prominent
picture which stands out in the shot. To overcome this, we decided to get
pieces of paper, and cover the frames up, therefore the frame blends into the
wall and causes the mistake to look less noticeable, and the shot is only on
the screen for a few seconds, therefore the audience probably wont notice it.
4. Classroom Scene…
When we revisited the classroom scene on Edius, we
noticed that there is a tripod in one of the corners of a
shot we were very keen to use. We overcame this in
the editing suite, by taking a sample of the wall next to
the tripod, and then covering it over using an extra
layer on Edius. This got rid of the issue interfering with
realism, and then we were able to use the shot in our
production.
5. Those were the key mistakes we had to
try work around, however the mise en
scene did go well in some of the other
scenes…
6. Mise En Scene in Olive’s Room…
We used Rachael’s room for Olive’s bedroom, and
that room already had a similar aesthetic to the
fictional character, which is why we purposely
selected it.
Props in the room include: posters, books etc.
which all suggest she is passionate about music,
literature and art.
7. Here is a selection of props we made for
IN BLOOM:
8. Funeral Scene…
For the shrine of Olive, we decided to place it at the head of
the funeral, we did this because it could be believed that it is
in front of the coffin. Obviously it was impossible for us to get
a coffin for the production, so we devised this board with the
dates on, and pictures of Olive when she was younger.
