9. Feeding the 5000
After these things Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A great multitude
followed Jesus, because they saw His miracles of healing. Jesus went to sit on
a hill with His disciples. It was nearly time for the Passover festival.
Jesus noticed a great crowd approaching, and He said to Philip, Where can
we buy bread for all these people? And this He said to test him: for He himself
knew what He would do. Philip said, Two hundred silver coins of bread are not
sufficient for every one of them to take a little.
One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, There is a boy
here who has five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what will this do for
so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass
in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
And Jesus took the loaves; and after He had given thanks, He distributed it
to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were sitting; He also did that
with the fish, and everyone ate all they wanted. After they had eaten, Jesus
said to His disciples, gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be
lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the
fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above what the
people had eaten.
John Chapter 6, verses 1 to 13; also found in Matthew 14:19; Mark 6:35; Luke
9:12
