  7. Balaam’s donkey speaks Balaam rose up in the morning, saddled his donkey, and traveled with the princes of Moab. God was angry that Balaam went with them: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way to stop him. When the donkey saw the angel with his sword drawn, she turned aside out of the way and went to the field. So, Balaam beat the donkey to turn her back into the way. Then the angel stood in a path of the vineyards, a stone wall being on both sides. And when the donkey saw the angel, she brushed hard against the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against it: and again he beat her. Once more the angel went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was not enough room to pass. This time when the donkey saw the angel, she lay down. Balaam lost his temper and beat the donkey again. The LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you beat me three times?” Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and the angel’s sword drawn in his hand. Balaam then bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. Numbers Chapter 22, verses 21 through 31 All scriptures are edited and paraphrased from the American King James Version.
