3. What types of music promo
video is it?
1. Performance based: the band/ singer/ players this allows a
more varied access to the performer than a stage
performance can in close ups allowing eye contact and a
close observation of facial gestures. This style can rely on
star power exploiting their own artistic and creative image
2. Narrative based: narrative in songs is rarely complete and
often fragmentary. These tend to suggest storylines. Steve
Archer said: “ music videos will cut between a narrative and
a performance of the song by the band.
3. Concept based : ideological power/ themes. These may
reflect a fashion, an attitude, glamour & lifestyles, a social
commentary, sex, drugs, alcohol, film links.

This level of analysis is obviously Band 4 and
although you shouldn’t have written prose in every
post, you do need some like this – at this level of
detail otherwise you will fail to show your use of
developing terminology.
