2. Question 1a
Describe and evaluate skill development from the
Foundation Portfolio to Advanced.
You will have to refer to one or two specific
production practices out of the following:
• Digital Technology
• Creativity
• Research and Planning
• Post-production
• Using conventions from real media texts
3. Discuss the areas: what do they
cover?
Creativity refers to: the creative development of the student/group
from pre-production to production to post-production.
This means the research and development of an idea, what
software/resources enable you to expand on this.
How have you progressed in terms of creative
ideas/knowledge/awareness about the concept of media texts, to the
audience consumption of them?
Think over the 2 years and what things specifically enabled this
development.
4. Task:
• Make notes on every area for your practical tasks
over the 2 years.
• You can help each other, particularly if you
worked together in a production.
5. Question 1b
Here you select one production and evaluate it in
relation to a concept:
• Media Language
• Genre
• Narrative
• Representation
• Audience
Top level candidates will need to discuss
theories in the analysis (L4) and name/relate to
‘key thinkers’.
6. • The production may not fit easily with the
named concept, you must be able to describe the
product in terms of it not fitting
straightforwardly.
• Apply the product to the theory or use your
product to challenge it – need knowledge for
either approach.
• Can use AS or A2 main task or
preliminary/ancillary
7. Focus : audience
• Share broad connections between your
productions and the way audiences read them.
Hard in this day and age to conceive of a media
audience as a stable, identifiable group.
Key question: how do people make sense of and
give meaning to media products?
8. Make notes
Make notes on the other four headings:
How do your productions fit/not fit with the
concepts of:
Genre
Narrative
Media Language (codes/conventions/semiotics
etc)
Representation
