marginal holders
• Year long food-grain from own source and 20000
cash in a year.
Strategy
– Reduction of risk in farming system by ensuring irrigation
through DBI
– Decentralized water bodies in command area (HAPA)
– Intensification of crops (SRI) and diversification of crops

7. Sectoral initiatives
• Intensification of crops like mustard, cucumber and
watermelon in DBI command area and adjacent other
areas in the same village.
• 1000 farmers cultivated mustards.
• Cucumber with 300 families in DBI area. 500 families
total.
• Watermelon with 150 families in DBI. 500 families total.
• Potato cultivation by 300 families in DBI and 500 families
total
• Technology transfer and handholding to the farmers.
• Market linkages.
8. Results
• Good standing crop of mustard, ready to harvest,
estimates 5 quintal per acre. 15000 rupees per acre
income.
• Cucumber harvesting just started not yet complete. 50
quintal per acre 30000 rupees per acre.
• Watermelon not yet harvested.
• Five new whole sale markets developed in our area
through market linkage initiative.
• Everyday around 150 tons of cucumber is going to
bigger markets.
9. Government support
• Orchard plants like banana, mango, guava, lichchi to 250
families.
• Floriculture plants to 50 families.
• Onion, ol, vegetable seeds to 350 families.
• 25 HAPA from MGNREGA in DBI command area.
• Two large DBI intake tanks renovation through Agri
Irrigation department.
• Pumpset and spray machine to 75 families.
• Will start work on Sanitaion by NBA-MGNREGA project
to DBI families in one block.

13. Innovations
• Small water bodies in the command area are
filled with water from DBI and will be used
afterwards.
• Pumps are used from small dug well near the
DBI outlet to irrigate areas outside the
command area.
• Delivery pipes are used from the outlet to
take water to the higher plots.
• When water level getting lower than the
intake level then pump is used and system is
used as lift irrigation.
