1. Eugenia B. Thomas is a K-8 center located in Doral, Florida. Like many of the
schools in Doral, the majority of the students were of Hispanic orientation.
With this great experience, I was given the chance to work with a wonderful
4th grade Language Arts class.
2. • I had the pleasure of working with an amazing
teacher and with an incredible group of
students. Observing two classes of 24
students was a challenge since I observed the
same activities and lessons for both the
classes, each day. Mrs. Crawford is an amazing
educator to her students and a big part of the
Doral community.
3. • This experience gave me a lot of hands on time with
students. I got the chance to walk around the
classroom answering any questions that the students
might have had. I also got the chance to view the
classroom not only from the teacher’s perspective, but
also from the students. Not being their teacher, the
students felt like anything they needed to share they
could count on me for it. They explained to me their
concerns with the FCAT and their fear of passing. I had
a great chance of learning what it is that not only
teachers go through on a daily basis, but also what the
students are concerned about and what would help
ease their minds.
4. • Mrs. Crawford gave me the opportunity to help
her students in creating their Figurative Language
Dictionary. For every letter in the alphabet, the
students had to come up with a
Simile, Metaphor, and a Personification. They
would create their books in their choice of
color, and have to get creative in drawing or
printing out pictures that would go with their
figurative language. I had the honor of working
with the students to ensure that any doubt they
had was cleared and any grammatical error was
fixed.
5. • I was also given the chance to help the students
with a project they were working on about the
euthanation of animals. I helped the class come
up with ideas for their presentations and guided
them with ways in which their search for
information would be shortened. I enjoyed
working with this specific activity because I love
animals and love to help the students fight for a
cause that is worth the better of something other
than themselves. This was an amazing experience
and is something I will remember for a very long
time.
6. • In my short time in Mrs. Crawford’s class I learned a lot
about the type of teacher I plan on becoming. This
experience gave me a lot of insight of what I will be dealing
with on a day-to-day basis. The best things I learned from
this experience is the importance of respect in the
classroom. Mrs. Crawford treats all of her students with the
upmost respect and expects the same from her students
and between the students as well. Another important
aspect that I learned is that it is important to have a set of
rules to abide by so that students know what is expected
from them and what needs to be avoided. Overall my
experience was excellent and I couldn’t have chosen a
better teacher to learn from.
