Saskatoon Health Region –
Dental Health Program review
of best practice literature
identified that an oral health
coalition could improve oral
health significantly by
strengthening partnerships in
the community.

2010:
The inaugural meeting of the Saskatoon Oral
Health Coalition was held on May 26, 2010,
with over 80 stakeholders attending.
Collaborative ~ Diverse ~ Leaders – Proactive - Respectful
Background:
2012:
Members voted to expand and become the
Saskatchewan Oral Health Coalition.
2010 and ongoing:
2 meetings per year, with a variety of partners.
2015:
Expansion to include southern Saskatchewan.

changes and work done because of the Oral Health
Coalition. What were the core values that guided,
motivated, and inspired the work done by the
coalition? What gave clarity to the group in times
when they wondered whether something was a
good idea or not? How were decisions made?

• Broader, for a more well-rounded perspective

provincial, and civic levels of government.

care disciplines. And, more representation
from funding agencies.

• Our strength will be in our numbers and
having our common cry coming from many
different sectors.

• That there exists huge unmet (and
unaddressed) needs in our province. We must
raise the governments (and the public)
consciousness, to make oral health a priority.
• That we are willing to each serve as a resource
to the group: to inform, educate, and update
on relevant issues, so that all members may
reach a common level of understanding.

Collaborative ~ Diverse ~ Leaders – Proactive - Respectful Background: 2007-2009: Saskatoon Health Region – Dental Health Program review of best practice literature identified that an oral health coalition could improve oral health significantly by strengthening partnerships in the community.
  • 15. Collaborative ~ Diverse ~ Leaders – Proactive - Respectful Background: 2010: The inaugural meeting of the Saskatoon Oral Health Coalition was held on May 26, 2010, with over 80 stakeholders attending.
  • 16. Collaborative ~ Diverse ~ Leaders – Proactive - Respectful Background: 2012: Members voted to expand and become the Saskatchewan Oral Health Coalition. 2010 and ongoing: 2 meetings per year, with a variety of partners. 2015: Expansion to include southern Saskatchewan.

What were the core values that guided, motivated, and inspired the work done by the coalition? What gave clarity to the group in times when they wondered whether something was a good idea or not? How were decisions made? What allowed this group to become great at what it had to offer?

More front line workers, from more health care disciplines. And, more representation from funding agencies.

We must raise the governments (and the public) consciousness, to make oral health a priority. • That we are willing to each serve as a resource to the group: to inform, educate, and update on relevant issues, so that all members may reach a common level of understanding.
