The San Antonio Tecosystem – An independent, locally focused,
technology council designed to be a voice and advocate for the
tech industry in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
What is a Tecosystem?
 ecosystem / noun, Ecology / [ek-oh-sis-tuh m] –
a system, or a group of interconnected elements, fo
rmed by the interaction of a community of organism
s with their environment.
 tecosystem / noun, Technology / [tek-oh-sis-tuh m] –
a unique technology ecosystem made up of virtual
communities working together to cultivate a
technology landscape – usually as it relates to a
particular geographic region as in a city, county, or
state.

Does SA Really Need One?
The tech world is hyper competitive and cities
all over the world are competing for the best
talent, funding, innovations, and even
infrastructure. San Antonio is the seventh
largest city in the U.S. and the only one of our
size lacking a citywide technology council. In
fact, of the ten largest cities in the U.S., San
Antonio is the only one without such a group.

Does It Make A Difference?
 Just ask:
 New York, LA, Chicago, Houston,
Philadeplhia, Phoenix, San Diego, Dallas,
San Jose, Austin, or Nashville
 Specially Nashville – they are gearing up for
Google Fiber while SA was waitlisted

Hypothetically Speaking
You are an entry level tech worker in San
Antonio and get a call from a tech company
in Austin with a better offer. Why would you
stay in San Antonio?

You are part of the team from Google
evaluating San Antonio as a candidate for
Google Fiber. It’s down to the wire, and
there is one slot left. San Antonio or Nashville,
which has a more compelling tech story?

You are a new graduate with a degree
in an I.T. related field looking for the
place you will call home and begin your
career. Does San Antonio come to
mind?

You run three-year-old tech startup in the Bay Area,
multiple rounds of funding and a growing company, but
your home city makes growth difficult and cost of living
makes recruiting new talent even harder. You are looking
for a new HQ, you know others have made the move to
Austin, and you've heard of San Antonio. Where do you
go to learn what San Antonio has to offer your company?

You think a new citywide
regulation is hindering tech growth
in San Antonio – how do you make
sure your opinion is heard and
considered?

You are a top tech leader and run part of the I.T.
department for a major corporation here in town. You
have a five year plan to introduce a new technical

Goals
1. Be a voice and advocate for the technology industry in San Antonio and
surrounding areas.
2. Support the retention of existing technology companies and tech talent.
3. Attract new science, engineering and technology based industries
and/or companies to the San Antonio area.
4. Establish high-functioning virtual communities for each of the six
constituencies that make up the San Antonio Tecosystem.
5. Establish the SA-Tecosystem leadership board and community links.
6. Enhance collaboration between and among the six constituencies and
facilitate conversations that lead to improvements.
7. Amplify the local “tech voice” on important policy issues.
8. Enhance the public understanding and appreciation of the impact of
the technology industry through public discussions of emerging and
important issues.
9. Provide opportunities for members of the various communities to meet
each other and develop a greater sense of community.
10. Link academic, business, and public policy leaders to build consensus for
education, technology innovation, and robust knowledge-economy
growth.
11. Build a bridge between the San Antonio area journalism and tech
communities for increased communication and local awareness.
