INTRODUCTION
AMC was established in 1983 with the vision to realize national
food self sufficiency. This vision placed the Bhutanese farmers at
the core of all agriculture development activities.
 AMC aligned itself strategically to contribute towards the
achievement of the vision through enhanced effectiveness and
efficiency in Bhutanese farming practices.
 Over the years, AMC has partnered itself with the Bhutanese
farmers to choose, create and innovate agricultural
technologies and farming practices.
 It has contributed significantly in the national goal of food self
sufficiency and has also been an instrumental agent in
alleviating drudgery in Bhutanese agriculture.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
 Creation and innovation of indigenous farming tools
suitable to Bhutanese farms
 Promotion of improved agriculture technology in the
country
 Effective and efficient distribution of agriculture
equipments to the farmers
 Capacity development of the farmers in the use of
improved technology and farming practices
 Act as the regulatory body of quality and safety
ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
The Agriculture Machinery Centre has set up different
sections according to the different activities required and
demanded by the end users especially farmers.
There are four Regional Centres for effective and efficient
delivery of services. Furthermore, activities like research
and development, inspection and testing, training etc.
For sustainability of farm mechanization and agriculture in
Bhutan are all taken care of by setting up sections
accordingly.
Following figure gives a board overview of the Farm
Mechaniztion programme as an overview:
AGRICULTURE MACHINERY DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (AMDC)
Agriculture Machinery Development Centre is one of the technical

equipment /machines through mass fabrication
Provide training to the fabricators and end users in the fabrication
and use of technology
MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS CARRIED OUT DURING TRAINING
During summer internship, I was placed under Agriculture
Development Centre (AMDC). During this period, I was
involved in four different tasks like research and
fabrication work.
a. Task(1): Paper work on collaboration of AMC and
Technical Training Institutes
b. Task(2): Fabrication of Bhutanese tent stand
c. Task(3): Fabrication of rice mill stand
d. Task(4): Fabrication of roof truss
TASK (1): PAPER WORK ON COLLABORATION OFAMC AND
TTIS
In these case I was asked to work on collaboration of
AMC and TTIs and I gave three presentation.

c. Presentation on collaboration of AMC and TTIs
COLLABORATION OF AMC AND TTIS
 Introduction
 Problem faced by AMC and TTIS
 Collaborative Products
 Modes( Methods)
 Action plan
 Benefits
 Challenges from private sector
 Measures
INTRODUCTION OF TTIS
 In the 9th FYP, the Department of Human Resources, in an
effort to increase access to TVET, extended the RTI by two
new institutes RTI east and RTI west, i.e VTI-Rangjung and
VTI-Khuruthang. In addition, four new institutes, VTI-Chumey,
VTI-Sershong, VTI-Samthang and VTI-Thimphu,
were established
 However, quality and relevance of TVET delivery has not
been similarly enhanced. The focus of our initiatives to
increase physical access and regional balance has only
resulted in the increase in physical access to TVET, but has
not resulted in making the TVET programs more attractive to
the youth. In the words of the ADB, the project was efficient,
but only partially effective
PROBLEM FACED BY TTIS
Lack of formal framework for institute industry
linkages: Due to the limitations of institute organization
and also weak management, there is lack of a formal
framework for institute-industry linkages and for
publicity of institute programs. Adding to which is the
lack of relevant industries in the vicinity of the institutes.
All these affect the relevancy of training, industry
support and attracting both potential trainees and
employees.
Lack of research and development practices: Currently
due to the duplication of courses amongst the institutes,
the limited pool of instructors is also scattered. This has
hindered the instructors from having active discussions
and sharing of expertise that would have led to
innovative practices. As a result research and
development is not practiced to improve on training
methodologies or to develop products.
PROBLEM FACED BY AMC
1. Work Force
2. Accuracy of Machines
3. Infrastructure
COLLABORATIVE PRODUCT
Agriculture Farm Tools

Assign sample product as project
EXAMPLE
 Fifteen technical training trainees from Chumey,
Bumthang completed their two months OJT programme
in Agriculture Machinery Centre, Paro from December 1,
2013 till January1, 2014. They were assigned the design,
drawing and fabrication of powered wheat thresher in
Agriculture Machinery Development Centre (AMDC).
 As per the work-plan of AMDC, ten numbers of such
machines are to be fabricated for use in wheat threshing
on hiring basis.
The acceptance of OJT programe has been a regular initiative
by AMC solely to expose and upgrade the technical skills of
the trainees. It is also to instill in them the opportunities
available ahead in agriculture mechanization through
production/fabrication of in-country machines and equipment
ACTION PLAN
1. Discuss thoroughly between management
2. Pilot Project for financial year 2014-2015
3. 2014 winter ( DURING OJT)

TASK(2): FABRICATION OF BHUTANESE TENT STAND
Objectives:
 The main aim and objectives of introducing new stand is
that as of now to erect the tent pole it takes lots of time
and we have to dig hole to insert pole. One main reason
is that sometimes it very difficult to dig hole and erect
the tent.
 With this difficulties AMDC section developed new idea
under guidance of Mr. Kinga Norbu and Harka Bdr, they
have developed new tent stand which is portable and
easy to erect. With new stand it will save time, cost and it
can be erected anywhere.
PROCEDURE
 Cutting of raw materials
 Grinding
 Drilling
 Welding with help of Arc welding machine
 Applying sand paper to remove dust
 Applying metal primer
 Applying colour
 Assembling

TASK(3): FABRICATION OF RICE MILL STAND
Objectives:
Rice Mill presently imported from other country occupy a
huge area when installed as it is driven with the help of a
flat belt from a prime mover. This causes unnecessary
waste of space for which the modification is carried out. In
this modification, the prime mover especially electric
motor is installed beneath the rice milling machine frame
and hence the flat belt requirement is not there and the shed
space requirement is also drastically reduced. It can be an
alternative solution if a farmer buys only rice mill.
DESIGN

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF ROOF TRUSS
ESTIMAION AND COSTING
1. Raw material used is M.s Pipe of outer dia 48.3mm
 Tie beam= 1x8m = 8m
 Rafter =2x4.168= 8.336m
 Vertical post=0.917mx1=0.917
= 2x0.58m=1.16m
=2x0.2242m=0.4484m
 Total length= 8+8.336+0.917+1.16+0.4484=19.18m
 Wastage= 5% = 0.95m
 Therefore total length= 19.18+0.95=20.13m
 As per steel standard, for outer dia of 48.3mm, the
weight is 3.61kg/m
 Therefore weight = 20.13mx3.61kg/m=73kg
2. Raw material used is M.s pipe of dia 42.4mm
 Inclined member = 2x1.2570m=2.514m
= 2x1.074=2.148m
 Total= 2.514+2.148=4.662m
 Wastage= 5% = 0.05x4.662m=0.2331m
 Total length= 0.2331m+4.662m=4.8951m
 As per standard weight for outer dia 42.4 is 3.15kg/m

  • 2. PRESENTATION ON SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT AGRICULTURE MACHINERY CENTRE PARO BHUTAN Presented by: Namgay Roll no:120106806 4thyear Mechanical
  • 3. OUTLINE  Introduction of the company  Organizational chart  Agriculture Machinery Development Centre (AMDC)  Major Assignment carried out during summer internship  Task(1): Paper work on collaboration of AMC and TTIs  Task(2): Fabrication of Bhutanese tent stand  Task(3): Fabrication of rice mill stand  Task(4): Fabrication of roof truss  Summary
  • 4. INTRODUCTION AMC was established in 1983 with the vision to realize national food self sufficiency. This vision placed the Bhutanese farmers at the core of all agriculture development activities.
  • 5.  AMC aligned itself strategically to contribute towards the achievement of the vision through enhanced effectiveness and efficiency in Bhutanese farming practices.  Over the years, AMC has partnered itself with the Bhutanese farmers to choose, create and innovate agricultural technologies and farming practices.  It has contributed significantly in the national goal of food self sufficiency and has also been an instrumental agent in alleviating drudgery in Bhutanese agriculture.
  • 6. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES  Creation and innovation of indigenous farming tools suitable to Bhutanese farms  Promotion of improved agriculture technology in the country  Effective and efficient distribution of agriculture equipments to the farmers  Capacity development of the farmers in the use of improved technology and farming practices  Act as the regulatory body of quality and safety
  • 7. ORGANIZATIONAL CHART The Agriculture Machinery Centre has set up different sections according to the different activities required and demanded by the end users especially farmers. There are four Regional Centres for effective and efficient delivery of services. Furthermore, activities like research and development, inspection and testing, training etc.
  • 8. For sustainability of farm mechanization and agriculture in Bhutan are all taken care of by setting up sections accordingly. Following figure gives a board overview of the Farm Mechaniztion programme as an overview:
  • 9.
  • 10. AGRICULTURE MACHINERY DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (AMDC) Agriculture Machinery Development Centre is one of the technical sections under Agriculture Machinery Centre. It is mandated to promote farm mechanization programme in the country through the following activities
  • 11. Conduct research and develop in country labour saving equipment, machines for agriculture Conduct test, modify and promote third country prototype machines ,equipment and technology best suitable to our local conditions Support private participation in in-country fabrication of farming equipment /machines through mass fabrication Provide training to the fabricators and end users in the fabrication and use of technology
  • 12. MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS CARRIED OUT DURING TRAINING During summer internship, I was placed under Agriculture Development Centre (AMDC). During this period, I was involved in four different tasks like research and fabrication work. a. Task(1): Paper work on collaboration of AMC and Technical Training Institutes b. Task(2): Fabrication of Bhutanese tent stand c. Task(3): Fabrication of rice mill stand d. Task(4): Fabrication of roof truss
  • 13. TASK (1): PAPER WORK ON COLLABORATION OFAMC AND TTIS In these case I was asked to work on collaboration of AMC and TTIs and I gave three presentation. a. Presentation on AMC b. Presentation on TTIs c. Presentation on collaboration of AMC and TTIs
  • 14. COLLABORATION OF AMC AND TTIS  Introduction  Problem faced by AMC and TTIS  Collaborative Products  Modes( Methods)  Action plan  Benefits  Challenges from private sector  Measures
  • 15. INTRODUCTION OF TTIS  In the 9th FYP, the Department of Human Resources, in an effort to increase access to TVET, extended the RTI by two new institutes RTI east and RTI west, i.e VTI-Rangjung and VTI-Khuruthang. In addition, four new institutes, VTI-Chumey, VTI-Sershong, VTI-Samthang and VTI-Thimphu, were established  However, quality and relevance of TVET delivery has not been similarly enhanced. The focus of our initiatives to increase physical access and regional balance has only resulted in the increase in physical access to TVET, but has not resulted in making the TVET programs more attractive to the youth. In the words of the ADB, the project was efficient, but only partially effective
  • 16. PROBLEM FACED BY TTIS Lack of formal framework for institute industry linkages: Due to the limitations of institute organization and also weak management, there is lack of a formal framework for institute-industry linkages and for publicity of institute programs. Adding to which is the lack of relevant industries in the vicinity of the institutes. All these affect the relevancy of training, industry support and attracting both potential trainees and employees.
  • 17. Lack of research and development practices: Currently due to the duplication of courses amongst the institutes, the limited pool of instructors is also scattered. This has hindered the instructors from having active discussions and sharing of expertise that would have led to innovative practices. As a result research and development is not practiced to improve on training methodologies or to develop products. PROBLEM FACED BY AMC 1. Work Force 2. Accuracy of Machines 3. Infrastructure
  • 18. COLLABORATIVE PRODUCT Agriculture Farm Tools Spare parts Small Agriculture Machines Roof Truss Gutter Bukhari Sheet metal items
  • 19. MODES FOR COLLABORATION Exchange Program Trainees OJT as per curriculum Provide Raw Materials to Institute for mass production Give sample product to institute for production Recruit trainees on contract basis after graduation Advocacy program Assign sample product as project
  • 20. EXAMPLE  Fifteen technical training trainees from Chumey, Bumthang completed their two months OJT programme in Agriculture Machinery Centre, Paro from December 1, 2013 till January1, 2014. They were assigned the design, drawing and fabrication of powered wheat thresher in Agriculture Machinery Development Centre (AMDC).  As per the work-plan of AMDC, ten numbers of such machines are to be fabricated for use in wheat threshing on hiring basis.
  • 21. The acceptance of OJT programe has been a regular initiative by AMC solely to expose and upgrade the technical skills of the trainees. It is also to instill in them the opportunities available ahead in agriculture mechanization through production/fabrication of in-country machines and equipment
  • 22. ACTION PLAN 1. Discuss thoroughly between management 2. Pilot Project for financial year 2014-2015 3. 2014 winter ( DURING OJT) Benefits to AMC  Can fulfill demands of farmers  Save cost and time  Mass production  Easy to assign the work
  • 23. Benefits to TTIs  Availability of Raw Materials  Employment Opportunities  Business Ideas  Improve their skills and innovation  Instructor Capacity Building  Improve quality  Industrial Exposure
  • 24. CHALLENGES 1. Competition from private sectors and Neighboring Countries  Cost  Quality  Personal Relations  Accessibility 2. Customer Demand 3. Sustainability 4. Government Policy 5. Economy 6. Location
  • 25. MEASURES TO CURB THE CHALLENGES  Will Focus on Quality  Cost  Select proper location to start the program  Find new ideas to compete with competetitors  Advocacy program to farmers
  • 27. TASK(2): FABRICATION OF BHUTANESE TENT STAND Objectives:  The main aim and objectives of introducing new stand is that as of now to erect the tent pole it takes lots of time and we have to dig hole to insert pole. One main reason is that sometimes it very difficult to dig hole and erect the tent.  With this difficulties AMDC section developed new idea under guidance of Mr. Kinga Norbu and Harka Bdr, they have developed new tent stand which is portable and easy to erect. With new stand it will save time, cost and it can be erected anywhere.

  • 31. TASK(3): FABRICATION OF RICE MILL STAND Objectives: Rice Mill presently imported from other country occupy a huge area when installed as it is driven with the help of a flat belt from a prime mover. This causes unnecessary waste of space for which the modification is carried out. In this modification, the prime mover especially electric motor is installed beneath the rice milling machine frame and hence the flat belt requirement is not there and the shed space requirement is also drastically reduced. It can be an alternative solution if a farmer buys only rice mill.
  • 32. DESIGN Design New rice mill stand
  • 33. PROCEDURE  Cut the angle of specification 50x50x5mm  Grinding  Cut M.s sheet of thickness 4mm  Welding  Chipping  Apply sand paper  Apply second colour RAWMATERIAL AND MACHINE USED  Angle iron  M.s sheet  Electrode  Arc welding machine  Hand grinder  Angle cutter
  • 34. ESTIMATION AND COSTING  Dimension of angle iron=50x50x5mm  Length=1m  Breath= 0.8m  Height =1m  Total length= 6m+3.2m=9.2m=900cm  Since angle has two faces, therefore total length= 920x2=1840cm  Density of mild steel= 7.86 g/cm3  Wastage=5% = 0.05x1840=92cm  Total length= 1840+92=1932cm  Weight= volume X density  Volume= 1932x5x0.5=4830cm3  Weight= 4830x7.86=37963.8g=38kg  Cost per kg=Nu.150  Total cost=38x150=Nu.5700
  • 35. TASK(4): FABRICATION OF ROOF TRUSS Procedure in Fabrication:  Collecting raw material  Drawing layout  Cutting material as per drawing  Welding  Grinding  Chipping  Appling sand paper  Applying primer  Applying second colour
  • 36. RAW MATERIAL AND MACHINE USED:  M.s Pipe  Electrode  Grinding machine  Welding machine  Try square  Thread  Power saw  Sand paper
