Tornadoes… All about tornadoes and how they are formed. By: Amber Skinner
A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of up to 300 mph. They can destroy large buildings, uproot trees and hurl vehicles hundreds of yards. They can also drive straw into trees. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide to 50 miles long. In an average year, 1000 tornadoes are reported nationwide. http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-tornado.htm This is a quote from weatherwizkids.com What Is Tornado
There are many types of tornadoes some of them are…. A Waterspout tornado A Dust Devil tornado Gustnadoes A supercell tornado And a landspout tornado Types of Tornadoes
A waterspout tornado is a column of spinning wind that forms downward from a cumulus cloud down to any body of water. The winds in a waterspout can reach a spinning point of 200 mph. Waterspout Tornadoes
They are swirls that go up and fizzle out in the clean air and they are not connected to the clouds while spinning. Dust Devil Tornadoes
Gustnadoes are very weak vortices that aren’t connected to the cloud base. And according to science are not actually tornadoes. They are commonly confused with a tornado and it takes a very good spotter to see the difference. Gustnadoes
A supercell tornado is the biggest and by far the strongest and most dangerous. They spin under a thunderstorm and their winds can get up to 300 mph. They can be at the very least one mile wide and last for hours and hours. Supercell Tornadoes
A landspout tornado is a narrow vortex that forms over land under several columns of cumulus clouds. Winds can reach up to 140 mph and only last for several minutes. But it is powerful. Landspout Tornadoes

At this point in time, formation of tornadoes are not fully understood by scientists. They usually form by a thunderstorm cloud called supercell. Although it isn’t true many people believe that tornadoes are not actually tornadoes unless there is a visible funnel cloud. How Tornadoes are Formed
They are the most violent storm. In an average year around 800 tornadoes are reported world wide….. An average tornado reaches up to 250 mph or more and can travel around 30 miles before stopping… One time there was a tornado that picked up a motel sign and carried it from Oklahoma to Arkansas. Facts About Tornadoes
What Tornadoes Look Like?
Destroy Buildings Can rip a house apart Can turn cows into a bomb [spins so fast that the cow pops…] Can throw a person above the clouds Rip apart anything in it’s path. What Does a Tornado do??????
The average wind speed is 112 mph. All kinds of precipitation Weather Factors
