Exporting by the Numbers
2015 U.S. Exports:
• Totaled $2.23 trillion in goods and $716 billion in services
• Jobs supported by exports were an estimated 11.5 million
• San Diego goods export value was $17.4 billion
• San Diego area export growth since 2009: 30%
• Despite a decrease in overall trade from 2014 the U.S. had record
service exports in 2015

6. San Diego Export Activity with
Mexico and the Border
• San Diego exports to Mexico in 2014 grew 15% from 2013, almost
$700 million
• In 2015, Mexico was San Diego’s top foreign market, accounting for
32% of its total goods exports
• Mexico continues to be San Diego’s largest international trading
partner, accounting for over 80 percent of the total value of two-way
trade
• This continues the pattern seen in the region since NAFTA was
implemented in 1994
• San Diego partners with Tijuana in the design, engineering, and
development of many of the products manufactured in Mexico
