There are two parts to this assignment. You will be writing about both parts. A rubric will
be used for this assignment. Please take the time to review the rubric before starting the
assignment.Part 1: Writing about the Listening ActivityAre you a good listener? Most people
would say they are. Let’s put it to the test. Have a 20 minute conversation with someone
you know well or fairly well. The conversation can be via video conferencing (Facetime,
Zoom, etc), face to face with someone in your immediate household, or just talking over the
phone. Count (literally make hash marks w/ pen & paper or actually keep track in your
head) how many times you “check out” (started thinking of something else like what you
are going to eat, planning the rest of your day, looking out the window, wondering what the
TV is saying in the background, etc… NOT LISTENING!) while the other person is talking. I
am looking for an actual number of how many times you stopped focusing entirely on the
other person and your assessment of your listening skills. Were the results what you
expected? Why or why not? What were you talking about? Do you think that impacted why
you may have checked out or in?Part 2: Writing about listening distractionsAfter you have
completed the listening activity, you are going to focus on writing about your listening
distractions.1. Choose the three distractions (listening problems) that you use the most
often.2. For each one, name the distraction, give an example of when you do this, and state
what you can do to overcome this bad habit. You can use the listening activity as ONE of
your examples, not all three.I attached the rubric below
