The term ‘green’ is meant to define the concept
of renewable, sustainable and eco-friendly
processes, products and energy. It is used to
describe a product that meets one of these
criteria:
i. It has qualities that will protect the
environment
ii. It has replaced artificial ingredients with
natural ingredients
 It may be
manufactured
without phosphates
in order to reduce a
source of pollution
in the water supply,
which makes it
better for the
environment than a
cleaner that
contains
phosphates.
 Or it may contain
ingredients derived
from natural
sources to lower the
risk of health
problems that can
be caused by
exposing the skin to
artificial dyes or
fragrances
The answer is as complex as the environmental
problems the world faces. It is not just the
current generation that must deal with this
massive crisis; it will be a challenge for future
generations even if greater action is not taken
over the next few decades
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
The first concerns facing those living in the
world today are major environmental ones. Once
a healthy food source, sea food and fish are
often found dangerous to eat due to mercury and
other deadly chemicals found in randomly tested
fish and sea food.
PESTICIDES:
The harsh pesticides used to control and kill insects on
vegetables and fruits have long-lasting detrimental effects
on humans especially growing children. The legal
allowance of pesticides used in the growing foods is still
considered to be “safe” for human consumption
INDUSTRIAL GROWTH AND POLLUTION:
A modern example of how unregulated industry creates
pollution can be seen in the industrialization of China, that
has moved into the number one slot as the world’s most
polluting country.
By simply reducing fertilizer use by adopting moe organic
gardening practices, you can reduce this type of pollution
GREEN BUILDINGS:
Green building(also known as green construction or
sustainable building) refers to a structure and using
process that is environmentally responsible and
resource efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle.
The objective is to
 efficiently use energy, water and other resources
 Protecting occupant health and improving employee
productivity
 Reduce waste, pollution and environmental
degradation
1. Chemicals may be unregulated: Did you know that since World
War Two, 85,000 new chemicals have entered the main
stream through various products and oftentimes those
chemicals are not approved by the EPA? What is even more
scary is that 70% of typical cleaning products often found in
your home contain these harmful agents.
2. Phthalates, Sodium Hydroxide and Ammonia: Some
potentially harmful chemicals you want to watch out for
include phthalates (in fragranced products), triclosan (in
liquid dishwashing detergent), 2-butoxyethanol (in multi-
purpose cleaners) and even chlorine (in laundary whiteners
and toilet cleaners)
3. Keep kids safe: Using natural cleaning
products will reduce the chance of an
accidental poisoning. In fact, it is shown that
house hold cleaning products rank within the
top 5 causes of childhood poisoning cases. So
it is better to switch over to green products.
4. You may be poisoning the water supply:
When you wash your clothes, do your dishes
and even flush toilet bowl cleaner you may
be sending the chemicals back into the water
system and nearby rivers, lakes and streams.
This could have a negative impact on wildlife
and the environment.
5. Breathe deep. Breathe clean: According to
the Environmental Working Group’s Guide to
Healthy Cleaning about 53% of cleaning
products they tested contain ingredients that
can harm the lungs whil 22% can cause asthma.
6. Keep the air clean: Many households
especially sprays and aerosols, can contain
compounds that can affect the central nervous
system, liver and kidneys. When you use a
spray, the chemicals can linger in the air long
after the initial mist dissipates.
Going green is the new way to satisfy your needs, and
now that the eco-friendly minds and products get
their much awaited attention, here are some of the
eco-friendly products:
Float: the green lamp
With the aim to help save the environment from harm
while helping each household to have an elegant
lighting solution. The float is made from a collection
of cork block recovered from a wine cork
manufacturer
The seven year pen:
Rather than joining the 100 million pens discarded
every day, this eco-friendly alternative reduces waste
and promises to last at least seven years. The long-
life writing tip and high quality materials will outlast
even some of the most expensive pens on the market
Bedol water-powered clock:
This clock runs on salt water. The briny fuel
corrodes the clock’s electrodes, which
release electrons to provide powder to
the monochrome LCD. It can go for weeks
without a refill
 Green marketing assumes even more
importance in developing countries like India
 Green is a relative term and depends on the
individuals intension to purchase green
products and especially on youth in India
 Expecting that results from the research
would indicate that youth’s pro-
environmental concerns significantly affect
their green buying behaviour
 If business leaders recognize the vast potential
that green business has, and then decide to
invest time, money and effort, the world would
only benefit
 Green marketing is still in its infancy and a lot of
research is to be done to fully explore its
potential
