2. Definition of Tongue Thrusting
Also called reverse swallow or immature
swallow.
It’s common name of oro-facial imbalance, a
human behavior pattern in which the tongue
protrudes through the anterior incisor during
swallowing, speech, and while the tongue is at
rest

Complex tongue thrust
Retain infantile swallow

5. Infantile swallow:
All infants thrust their tongue while swallowing
Tongue lies between the gum pads
Mandible is stabilized by contraction of facial muscle
Disappears with eruption of teeth and growth of
mandible

Infection such as tonsillitis, allergies, promote a more forward tongue posture
due to pain and discomfort
