Mood Board Conclusion.
• I decided to go with this mood board over my other idea, as I
thought that the artists on this mood board as I thought the
artists I including on this one were more targeted at my target
audience, as well as when I looked back to my Survey Monkey
they were more interested in R&B and Rap.
• I have included both female and male artists so that they
appeal to both of my target audiences.
Magazine Logo/Masthead.
Test 2.
Test 3.
Reason - When creating my magazine I want to make
sure that my magazine masthead is eye-catching to the
reader, I have come up with a name for my magazine
‘Simply Sound’ the reason for choosing this particular
name I decided to reflect my masthead on my logo, by this
it is going to be simple but eye-catching. I have chosen to
call my magazine ‘simply sound’ because my magazine is
simply going to based round music which creates a ‘sound’
as well as this some people use the word ‘sound’ as
describing something which is good.
Logo idea- for my logo I have decided to use to first 2
letter of my masthead “SS” the reason for choosing this is
because its catching and the reader will remember it
easily. I have picked a similar font to my masthead, I have
created this logo on Photoshop, making sure that I
include my house colours, yellow and grey. The
background of the logo is yellow and I plan to keep this
the same throughout the whole magazine. I used
different effects including stroke, bevel and emboss.

Font-When deciding what font I want in my magazine, I
want to make sure that it is consistent throughout. I have
also made sure that my font looks interesting as it would
appeal/address to the target audience. I have chosen several
fonts that will be used in my magazine, because some are
easier to read than others when sized differently, although I
didn't want my magazine to contain a lot of different fonts
as it could just confuse the reader, and become messy.
House Colour-My main colour schemes in my magazine
are going to be grey and yellow. The reason I have picked
these two colours is because I want my magazine to appeal
to both girls and boys. So therefore the grey side of the
magazine is for the boys and the yellow for the girls, so that
my magazine is covering both genders.
Magazine House Colours.
• For my final magazine house colours, I decided to go with the colour, grey yellow black and
red. I went for these colours in particular as they fitted well with my genre of music I would
be featuring within my magazine, as well as these colors' both addressing each target
audience.
These are the colors I decided to go with for my magazine front cover and DPS, the
reason why I decided to go with these colors is because they best fitted in with my
genre style, as well as fitting in with the different artists I am going to be featuring in my
magazine. Red, and yellow are bold colors which means they are going to stand out
against the black and grey colors in my magazine.
I also decided to keep the red theme in, from my magazine of inspiration although, I
would only use it for conventions such as the puff promotion, headings so that they will
stand out.
Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity.
Yellow is very effective for attracting attention, so use it to highlight the most important
parts of my music magazine.
“Genre’s are instances of repetition and difference”
(Steve Neale 1980)
Some of the conventions I will be repeating in my
magazine will be, the house style and color. The
reason why I have decided to repeat my house color
throughout my magazine and not change them, as I
want my audience to become familiar with my house
style/colors in order for them to recognize my
magazine due to the colors in shops compared to
other magazines.

Interview Draft Planning.
This image conveys how I have drafted a
dew questions and ideas for my interview,
going over what I would ask. After
planning I began to write up the interview
with a series of questions.
I began to draft questions before finalizing
what I was actually going to write, I did
this so that I wasn’t just asking closed
questions like ‘Yes or No'. I also drafted
questions as to make sure that they fit
with the artist I am interviewing. I chose
Krept and Konan because they are a
popular well known group and fits in well
with my target audience.
Final Copy of Interview.
Krept joins us at Simply Sound to chat about his life in music and his
lifestyle out of his music career.
So Krept lets get the questions rolling, how old were you when you
started off in the music industry?
Krept: I was around 13 years when I started loving music. I started to
make up my own raps after school and my other mates would join in
and we would have a rap off (laughs). So basically that is how it all
started and I’m still creating raps to this day.
We love your music and your rapping is great. When you were
younger did you think you would be here today?
Krept: Nah defo not, we just began making up raps in our bedroom
after school for a bit of fun, and now were here sharing those raps we
made with our friends.
What do you aim for you music to do to the younger generation?
Krept:I just wanted my music to inspire young people, as when I was
growing up music play a huge part of my life. I want my music to
motivate people to carry on with their goals you know, and it can
show that like me coming from a run down house in Croydon you can
make it somewhere in the world.
What could be a motivation quote you could give to your fans then?
There's going to be times in your life when people tell you, you can't
do something, and there's going to be times in your life when people
tell you, you cant live your dreams.
Have you had any favourite or life changing moments this year?
Krept- My favourite moment by far was when i performed at Reading
Festival the crowd when crazy man! The screams were so loud! It was
unreal to think that all these people have come to see me perform.
Who’s your celebrity friend, and is there anyone you would like to
make a song with?
Krept: I've always wanted to make music with Kanye West as his
music inspired me a lot, I've got a few celebrity friends, most of them
singers or rappers like Stormzy, and Ed Sheeran. I would love to
preform with Fetty Wrap as I'm close mates with him, but we live
such busy life's, when it comes to preforming our timings never add
up.
How do you come up with the raps you make?
Krept-I tend to base my raps around passed experiences in
life when growing up I didn’t have the best childhood you
know always getting into trouble and fights in school, getting
myself mixed up with the wrong people, like joining gangs.
Do you think young people are targets for this type of up
bringing, getting themselves into gangs? And a fan wanted
to know do you have any pets?
Krept: yeah course, there are so many young people getting
mixed up in the wrong groups, getting involved in drugs and
crime, you know I was young too and got mixed up with the
wrong people.
Krept- Yeah I’ve got a family, but would love to have a pet of
our own but cant as were always on the go.
Who do you base your style of clothing on?
Krept- my style icon is Usher, I've always been inspired by
what he wears and he can make wearing sunglasses in the
dark, good !! (LAUGHS)
Hahaha yeah he can, is there a song which you have enjoyed
writing the most?
Krept –My most enjoyable song I have written would be
Dreams featuring Ed Sheeran, I loved writing this song with Ed
as he’s a huge inspiration to me selling out the O2, when he
first started off singing on the streets for some pocket money
.. Now look where he is!!
ahhh no way! I'm a HUGE fan of Ed Sheeran!!
I think that’s all for now Krept, thank you for coming in and
answering some questions for us the fans will love that
motivational quote.
Krept- no problem, anytime.
Good Luck at Wireless, and we hope to see you soon!!

Why?
Photography Studio-
Firstly, I took this image in our Photography
studio at school, the reason why I decided to
take the image here is because the studio had
lighting which I was able to use, to create good
lighting for my image. I also decided to take
photos in the photography studio as they had
a number of different backgrounds I could use.
Blank Wall in the classroom-
I took this image in casual places against a
plain white wall in my classroom, I decided to
do this as I needed a plain background so that
it was easy to edit my image, in Photoshop. I
also decided to take a photo in my classroom,
as I wanted to see how the images turned out
when using natural lighting.
Picture Needed/Required
Shot Type
Props/Equipment

Person/People
Why?
The shot type I used was a ‘medium close up
shot’ the reason why I used a medium close up
shot was because this is the shot was used for
my magazine of inspiration, and this is what I
was basing my magazine off. As well as this I
wanted the main focus to be on the artist on
the front cover.
Person used- Will Eze (student)
Lighting I used was artifical lighting in the
photography studio, I also used a plain
background which was already in the studio, I
didn’t require much props as I didn’t want my
image to be too busy, I liked how it look when
it was simple. The clothing that will was using
was up to date clothing, in the image he is
wearing a black top from Topman, as well as a
beige coat also from Topman in the image he
is always wearing black jeans but you cannot
see them in the shot. The reason why I chose
to use Will for my magazine is because his
style best fits my magazine style and genre of
the music which is R&B and Rap.
The shot type I used was again a ‘medium
close up shot’.The shot type I used was a
‘medium close up shot’ the reason why I used
a medium close up shot was because this is
the shot was used for my magazine of
inspiration, and this is what I was basing my
magazine off. As well as this I wanted the main
focus to be on the artist on the front cover.
Person used- Will Eze (student).Compared to
my first image the lighting I used for this image
was natural lighting, I decided to use this as I
thought that it looked a lot better when using
the camera, I also wanted to switch it up from
my front cover image were I used artifical
lighting, I also used natural lighting because
sometimes it makes people look harsher, and
distorts their features, so therefore at this time
natural lighting looked better when taking
pictures of Will. I didn’t require much props as
I didn’t want my image to be too busy, I liked
how it look when it was simple. The clothing
that will was using was up to date clothing, in
the image he is wearing a black top, I decided
to get will to remove his jacket, as I didn’t
want the image to look exactly the same as my
front cover image.

Potential Hazards/Risks
Location specific
Why?
 One potienal hazard would be loose trails
of wires may be a hazard to tripping over.
 As well as the different types of
backgrounds which have been hanged up
on the walls might not be secure
therefore this could fall on the person I
am taking a picture off.
 Breaking the camera- if this would to
happen pieces of the camera could be
sharp, and harmful to you or other
around you.
 There could be a possilbilty of the bulbs
in the artifical lights over heating, and
smashing because of that therefore this
could harm you or others.
 No liquid-drinking ect near the pugs and
the lights as this is dangours.
 Breaking the camera- if this would to

I wanted to experiment with lighting therefore I
decided to use natural lighting for my DPS, and I
liked out the lighting turned out on the subjects

Potential Hazards/Risks: The studio could be in use. Wires could
cause a tripping hazard, as well as the

Any sharp objects, lying around. Having any
liquid near any electrics.
Photography Explained.
My models are going represent how fun, the magazine is and how up to date it will be each month.
• The models I am going to use, one is average in height, and the other model is slightly taller, I am doing
this as it creates a good contrast for the magazine and also appeals to anyone.
Wardrobe and Look:
• Their clothing is going to be very up to date and fit in with the 2015 fashion, I have also decided that they
are going to be smart casual as this fits the idea of my magazine.
• I have also decided to put them in up to date clothing as this could inspire some of the readers by what
they are wearing. As well as this there facial expressions are going to very pouty and girly!
• My source of inspiration is ‘Q music magazine 'and ‘We love pop’.
I have also chosen these two people, as they have been told that they have been told that they look like my
artists featuring in my magazine Krept and Konan.
These are a few of my magazine cover ideas, although I am inspired by these images I most likely
wont use them as I want to just have the one model on the page.
Although, I decided to change my images as I didn’t feel that they fitted into my genre of music.

Location Of Images
When taking my images I had to come up with where I
was going to take them, I decided to take them in the
photography studio using a white wall, as well as using
stage lighting.
I decided to take test photography shots in two places as I
wanted to see which images came out best, I had to
insure that the area in which I was taking the images was
safe a free of any hazards that could Injure anyone
around me when taking the images.
I therefore carried out an risk assessment of the locations
in which I was taking the pictures.
Risk Assessment-Image Risk Assessment.
• Before taking my images I had to make sure that any of the people I was going to
take a picture of was happy to be photographed. I asked each of my models
individually if they were happy to be photographed, and if they were happy to be
put onto my magazine as all of them said yes that I had their permission to do
so.As well I emailed all the people I would be taking a photo off to ask for their
permission as well and to copy over their signature onto the email if I had their
permission.
Evidence of an email I have
sent, to the people I want
to take photos of.
Risk Assessment-Software Risk Assessment
Software Risk Assessment-
• When creating my magazine cover and DPS I made
sure that when I choice my image, I held down shift
the reason for doing this is so that when I went to
resize I held shift so that my image didn’t pixilate and
loose its image quality. As well I also made sure that
when I began to edit my magazine cover and include
text for the front cover and DPS I used the ruler tool I
did this so that my text didn’t over lap any of my
images, I also used the ruler tool to make sure that
my text was all in line, and straight.
• As well when I was picking what house colours I
wanted, I made sure that they were consistent
throughout my whole magazine to insure that people
would recognise my magazine more if they were to
see it in a shop. I did this by using the ‘eye dropper’
tool, this allows me to click on a part of my magazine
which I have already coloured, so that I can use it to
colour another part of my magazine, this also allows
me to use it so that I get the exact same colour.
Production Plan- Pre-Production Materials.
Production Plan-Pro-production materials.
Planned Format and Style - Front Cover-
Pre-production materials.
Masthead; I have decided to have my
masthead in the left hand corner of the
page, I have done this because I still
want to include my logo although I want
the artist to be the main attraction. I was
inspired to do this my Q music magazine.
Main image; for my magazine I have
change the idea of having the artist
cover the whole page, but I have
decided to have the artist in the middle
of the page, the reason for this is that
this magazine is going to contain less
images and more fun, inviting
information I have done this as my
magazine needs to appeal to all types of
audiences.
Barcode, price and date; I am keeping the
barcode in the same place like Q
magazine.
Main title; I have decided
to keep it traditional and
have the title at the top of
the page the reason for
this is that I want to keep
the focus on the ‘star
artist’ although I still want
the title to link to the ‘star
artist’ on the front page.
Puff Promotion; Instead of a puff promotion
that reads ‘free gift’ I have included a
‘coming soon’ puff promotion as others who
are willing to buy the magazine on a monthly
basis may appeal to them more. I have
ladled/coloured it in red in order to stand
out.
Cover stories; I want to include more
information about the content that can be
found inside the magazine. Therefore I plan
to include a small textbox with the name of
one artist and their autograph inviting the
reader in. This will be placed over the front
cover subjects lower chest, as this is not
considered as an important area that creates
‘star appeal’, as well as this it would still give
the reader an insight as to what the
magazine is about..
Like I said I have
decided to go
with this hand
drawn draft
although, I have
taken the idea of
just having one
person on the
cover which I
took from my 1st
idea.
Main Interview; the main part of my
interview is going to be to the right hand
side of the page, I have done this
because I feel that while the reader is
reading the information about the star
artist they are able to refer back to the
image while they are reading.
Pull Quote; Having a
pull quote form my
interview in bold, this
will attract the readers
to the quote which
would get them
interested in the
interview, it also
demonstrates what
will be in the interview
and what it is based on
and who is it about.
Page number; Will be shown
on each page at the bottom
corner or each page.
Pre Production Material-
Double Page Spread.
Final Product
Graphic Layouts-Final Ideas-Pre-production materials.
Firstly, the main Image of my magazine, I have
chose to use my main image covering the whole
of the magazine cover, The reason why I have
done this is to convey what my magazine is
about and what type of genre my magazine is.
As well as this having the main artist covering
the whole page, would also draw the reader into
to reading the magazine as if the star artist
appeals to them. Artist autograph I have
decided to include an artists autograph into
each one of my magazines depending on the
artists, although I have decided to not include it
into every magazine I publish as this could
become to repetitive for the reader, as well as
this I’m going to include it into some of the
magazines to invite/surprise them as one of
their favourite artist autograph is on the page.
House colours I have thought about my house
colours and made sure that they appeal to each
of my target audiences men and women, so I
have gone with the theme of yellow, white and
grey and added some red in there for my puff
promotions to catch the readers eye. Price, I
have decided to price my magazine at £1.25 as
this is a affordable price for the age group my
magazine fits into.
Cross Media Convergence
• Cross Media Convergence is how production companies use a
variety of media’s to display their product.
• Magazine companies own a print version, a website and a
Facebook page.
• Within my magazine I will be using hashtags, to link to to my
magazines Twitter page, I will also being having hashtags and
as wells other tags to link to our Facebook page.
Cross Media Convergence continued and Social Media Information for my
Magazine.
Conclusion.
• In this learning outcome I focused on creating the pre-production
materials for the planned print based media product. I first of all created
both DPS and front cover hand drawn-drafts, by doing this it insured I
knew exactly where I was going to place each convention on the page,
what type of camera angle I was going to use, and how it would look on
my magazine cover. When creating my hand drawn drafts, I highlighted the
different feature that will be included on the pages such as puff promotion
and masthead. I did this as these features are really important to include
in my magazine, as they all aim to draw the reader in.I did this by creating
some graphic layouts which were based of my hand drawn drafts, these
were created by using shapes on PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop CS5.
• I then went into more depth, and the smaller features of my magazine
such as the barcode, price and date, I worked out when I wanted my
magazine to be released by creating a production plan.
Conclusion
• I created a production plan stage which would help to in the future as, it
would save time as it means that I would be able to get my magazine out
as quick as possible, so by creating a magazine production plan this means
that everything when it comes to producing my magazine, is prepared and
well thought-out so that there isn't as faults.
Conclusion.
• In this learning outcome I focused on the pre-production materials for my
magazine. I included my first front cover and double page spread hand-drawn
drafts as well as my graphic layouts. In which these highlighted the different
features and conventions I would be including in my magazine, as well as knowing
where I was going to place everything on the page, such as puff promotion, and
the technical convergence.
• By doing this is allowed me to figure out which conventions looked best on my
magazine in order for it too look professional, as well as if some didn't’t look as
good as others I was able to research to find out what the main features were for a
magazine.
• Finally, I looked in more detail of the smaller features of a magazine, such as the
different types of font, the images where they were being placed on the page and
the layout of the interviews I did this so that I could gather ideas for the
production of my own magazine.
• After I gathered all my information I began to plan and prepare for the production
stage which later on in the future when it comes to producing more magazines it
would save time. To support this I created a production plan.
Interview with Publisher.
• I had an one to one interview with the publisher in which I was pitching my
two magazine ideas to, in this interview he gave me feedback on how I could
improve on my pitch, and areas in which could be improved on for future
pitches to come.
• He pointed out that I needed to make more eye-contact with the employees I
was pitching to as well as him, he also suggested to not relay on my script as
much as this it can see unprofessional.
• Although, he pointed out positive points such as I spoke clearly so that
everyone could understand the point I was trying to get across as well as this
he also said that all my slides were clear enough to read, and that I laid them
out in a professional manor.

Here I have shown in pictures of what some of the hazards could be when I’m
taking my pictures. To make sure me or the person I am taking a picture of doesn’t
get injured, I will make sure these thigs don’t happen, like having liquids near
anything electrical. As well as have wires not tucked away, so that they are out of
the way so that none trips on them.

Why?
Photography Studio-
Firstly, I took this image in our Photography
studio at school, the reason why I decided to
take the image here is because the studio
had lighting which I was able to use, to
create good lighting for my image. I also
decided to take photos in the photography
studio as they had a number of different
backgrounds I could use.
Blank Wall in the classroom-
I took this image in casual places against a
plain white wall in my classroom, I decided to
do this as I needed a plain background so
that it was easy to edit my image, in
Photoshop. I also decided to take a photo in
my classroom, as I wanted to see how the
images turned out when using natural
lighting.
Picture Needed/Required
Shot Type
Props/Equipment
Lighting
Costume
Person/People
Why?
The shot type I used was a ‘medium close up
shot’ the reason why I used a medium close
up shot was because this is the shot was
used for my magazine of inspiration, and this
is what I was basing my magazine off. As well
as this I wanted the main focus to be on the
artist on the front cover.
Person used- Will Eze (student)
Lighting I used was artifical lighting in the
photography studio, I also used a plain
background which was already in the studio,
I didn’t require much props as I didn’t want
my image to be too busy, I liked how it look
when it was simple. The clothing that will
was using was up to date clothing, in the
image he is wearing a black top from
Topman, as well as a beige coat also from
Topman in the image he is always wearing
black jeans but you cannot see them in the
shot. The reason why I chose to use Will for
my magazine is because his style best fits my
magazine style and genre of the music which
is R&B and Rap.
The shot type I used was again a ‘medium
close up shot’.The shot type I used was a
‘medium close up shot’ the reason why I
used a medium close up shot was because
this is the shot was used for my magazine of
inspiration, and this is what I was basing my
magazine off. As well as this I wanted the
main focus to be on the artist on the front
cover. Person used- Will Eze
(student).Compared to my first image the
lighting I used for this image was natural
lighting, I decided to use this as I thought
that it looked a lot better when using the
camera, I also wanted to switch it up from
my front cover image were I used artifical
lighting, I also used natural lighting because
sometimes it makes people look harsher, and
distorts their features, so therefore at this
time natural lighting looked better when
taking pictures of Will. I didn’t require much
props as I didn’t want my image to be too
busy, I liked how it look when it was simple.
The clothing that will was using was up to
date clothing, in the image he is wearing a
black top, I decided to get will to remove his
jacket, as I didn’t want the image to look
exactly the same as my front cover image.

harmful to you or other around
you.
 There could be a possilbilty of
the bulbs in the artifical lights
over heating, and smashing
because of that therefore this
could harm you or others.

Risk Assessment-Image Risk Assessment.
• Before taking my images I had to make sure that any of the people I was
going to take a picture of was happy to be photographed. I asked each of
my models individually if they were happy to be photographed, and if they
were happy to be put onto my magazine as all of them said yes that I had
their permission to do so.As well I emailed all the people I would be taking
a photo off to ask for their permission as well and to copy over their
signature onto the email if I had their permission.
Evidence of an email I
have sent, to the people I
want to take photos of.
Consent form
Evidence-
Here is evidence of a screenshot,
of my consent form which I
made, for the person I am taking
pictures of. I did this as a form of
evidence, as well as proof that I
have asked the person I am
taking a photo off, this is require
to avoid any discrieifinsey or
disagreement when it comes to
the images.
Risk Assessment-Software Risk Assessment.
Hazards at the work place.
• The health and safety at Work Act, consists of general, commission,
regulations and provisions. These can be where a worker needs to look
after themselves as well as anyone else who could be affected by their
work.
• Also this is a law which workers within the working place where their
heath and safety surroundings are controlled regularly and that everything
around them is safe. If they feel the that the area isn’t safe then they are
able to talk to their manager or supervisor about it.
• A risk assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork , but
rather about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your
workplace.

complaint they wish to make.
On IPSO’s website there are 4 main stages of making a complaint;
1.Our Remit.

How my magazine conforms to the codes.
Intellectual property-
Is Having the right type of intellectual property protection helps you to stop people stealing or
copying. This applies to my magazine as I will be able to stop anyone from trying to steal any of my
information images etc., and say it is their own, so this is really important I have this can it protects
all my information and other properties of mine. As well this also applies to other people who have
the right to protect their property. This would link to my magazine as if someone wanted to use my
magazine they would need my permission to do so.Or I would need a companies permission to use
their logo in my magazine.
Copyright Issues-
Copyright is a form of protection given to the authors or creators of "original works of authorship,"
including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and other intellectual works copyright is massively
important when it comes to producing my music magazine, as the editors and producers of my
magazine would have to insure that they are aren't using any images without the persons
permission, or this could be seen as breaking the laws of copyright. If we were to use an image that
is owned by some else we are able to get in contact with the person who owns the image and ask
them if we are able to use their image.
Data Protection Act-
Making sure I project my content with my magazine if really important, I will do this by using ‘data
protection act’ this protects any personal information and any personal information kept within my
publishing company. An example of this is that it need to be used correctly, fairly, this also means
that they keep protected employees beliefs, opinions and any criminal records. This is important
that we keep this safe because someone's personal life could affect the company and each worker
should have privacy when it comes within work life and home life.
https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-property-an-overview
Intellectual Property
A watermark is a form of intellectual property copyright, this can be found on, online and in
written work ect. It can be shown by using a faint design of the copyright logo or, the name of
the company who the image as created by. It is important that this is done so that none can use
your image without permission.
Also, if someone uses your image without permission you will know as the company's logo is
hard to get rid of as the name of the company when on the picture is typically layered over the
top of the image.
I think in my case as my magazine will be featuring a lot of images, it is important that I protect
my images, this is because images are easier to use over written work because of “copy and
paste”.

Production Legal and Ethical Issues.
Before my magazine can be published and brought by readers, there factors which
need to be covered before my magazine is released to the public. The two main
companies which cover the media publishing, these re Independent Press Standards
Organisation(IPSO) and Advertisement Standard Authority(ASA).This both companies
are based in the UK and work with dealing with any complaints that have been made
in the media industry. Some of the things they deal with is Copyright, ethical issues,
discrimination, children and accuracy.
Copyright- (LEGAL CONSTRAINTS)
• Copyright is a form of protection given to the authors or creators of "original works
of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and other intellectual
works copyright is massively important when it comes to producing my music
magazine, as the editors and producers of my magazine would have to insure that
they are aren't using any images without the persons permission, or this could be
seen as breaking the laws of copyright.
The Right To Privacy-(LEGAL CONSTRAINTS)
• Everyone is entitled to their rights of privacy. Therefore when it comes to publishing
content about people I need to make sure that I am not breaching anyone privacy or
any regulations. To make sure that all content is acceptable, and not breaching
anyone's privacy, I must ask all the people who are featuring in my magazine for their
permission to use photos and information about them.
Production Legal and Ethical Issues.
Discrimination-(ETHICAL CONSTRAINTS).
• My magazine will be responsible for all its content which is included in it magazine. All
the content inside my magazine has to meet the editors code of practice. Therefore no
content should be included in my magazine which could be offensive to certain
individuals based on race, color, religion, gender and sexual orientation. Although, so of
this could be mentioned in certain parts of my content, only if it has appropriate
relevance to the story.
Children-(ETHICAL CONSTRAINTS).
• As children are considered vulnerable, which means there are limitations to what can
be published about children. Therefore it is important if I was going to include any
content/pictures of children in my magazine I would have to have a contract of
agreement from the child’s parent/guardian for them to sign so that they allow us to
publish content if the content is necessary. This is really important that this happens for
safeguarding of children, in order to keep a positive reputation of my magazine.

Press Complaints Commission.
Linking IPSO to My Own Magazine.
When producing my music magazine I will have to consider the
editors code of practice. I will have to make sure my magazine
doesn’t include areas which are highlighted in the editors code. On
the official Press Complaints Commission website it states that
when producing a magazine and anyone who helps produce that
magazine need to “ have a duty to maintain the highest
professional standards”, this conveys that anyone who writes any
content which Is going to be featured in the magazine that it needs
to be professional so that it fits in with the code of practice.
Areas that are in featured
within the code of
practice:
1. Accuracy.
2. Opportunity to reply.
3. Privacy.
4. Harassment.
5. Intrusion into grief or
shock.
6. Children in sex cases.
7. Hospitals.
8. Reporting of Crime
Clandestine devices
and
Subterfuge(Hidden
cameras or
microphones).
9. Victims of Sexual
Assault.
10. Discrimination
11. Financial Journalism.
12. Confidential Sources.
13. Witness payments in
criminal trials.
14. Payment to criminals.
All information within the magazine has to be stated in the
editors code, as well as this any areas which are featured in
the code of practice such as ‘children in sex cases’ needs to
be highlighted. This means all the editors will have to do an
over view of the content with our magazine and need to
make sure that they fit into the editors code of practice.
As well as if any of our content is breached then, we have the
responsibility to deal with any complaints directly from the
complaints website ‘Press Complaints Commission’ which
could be a complaint about copyright or breaching
someone's privacy.
Editors Code relating to my Magazine.
• IPSO will contact me as the creator of my magazine if there are any
complaints made about my magazine from the public. This may
happen if my magazine brakes any of the ‘Editors’ Code of Practise’.
For example my magazine will have to be accurate in what it ends
up publishing, which may mislead the readers, and make people
believe and think false claims are true. Therefore if there is any
incorrect within my magazine therefore I will have to act quick to
correct this.
• Insuring that journalists from my magazine are interviewing people,
they need to be aware of the harassment act, and insure that they
are sticking to the rules regarding someone's right of privacy.
• I will need to make sure I am accurate when producing my
magazine for example, making sure I’ve put the correct date on the
magazine.
Editors Code relating to my magazine.
• The content of my magazine is key and must meet with
the editors code of practise. This therefore means that
I must put the truth, into my magazine spoken by other
artists and insure that nothing they has be twisted or
changed which could seem like a person(artist) is trying
to say something else(Sensationalised).
• To make sure that my magazine doesn’t breach any of
the ‘Editors codes of Practice’ then I will insure that at
the end of production of each magazine, members of
my team will proof check each magazine to insure we
aren't breaching the ‘Editors’ Code Of Practise’.
How to make a complaint- IPSO.
Complaints Procedure:
1. Initial Assessment: The complaint is received and then finalised whether it falls into the complaints
category and breaches the editors code. If this doesn’t happen then this means that they will write
back and explain why it did not fall into the category.
2. Referral to the Publication: If the complaint does breach the editors code or one of the category's
within the code. The editor will look at the complaint and if it isn't dealt with within 28 days they will
provide informal guidance on the complaints process and how to do it.
3. The Investigation: If the complaint is not resolved, then the complaints committee will write to the
editor of the publication to request them to look at the complaint.
4. Adjudication by the complaints committee: If the complaint, still feels that the situation should be
resolved, then the complaint committee will decide whether there has been a breach of the editors
code.
5. Remedies: If the complaints committee determines that the code has been breached, it can require
the publication of its upheld and/or correction.
6. Review of the process- if your complaint proceeds through the steps 2 through to step 5 by you are
happy with the process in which the decision of the Complaints Committee was made, you may
request a review by the Complaints Reviewer.
Press Complaints Commission.
Privacy-
For the magazine front cover and double
page spread, I will have to gain some sort
of permission from the subject I am taking a
photo off. This needs to be done so that I
am not breaching the editors code of
practice, I have contacted the subject, via
email requesting whether he gives his
consent for me to photograph him, and for
the images to be used in the magazine.
The Sun breached the Editors’ Code by publishing a
“significantly misleading” front page headlined “1 in 5
Brit Muslims’ sympathy for jihadis”.
The paper was ordered to publish a critical adjudication by
the Independent Press Standards Organisation no further
back than page five.A Times story headlined “One in five
British Muslims has sympathy for Isis" was also found to be
inaccurate. But no further action was ordered against The
Times because it had already published a correction.
Misrepresentation of Black Women.
• In the media there was a
misrepresentation of a cover for the
brand L’Oreal by this the singer
Beyoncé, photo was edited for the
brand to make her skin tone seem a lot
lighter than it actually is. This is form of
misrepresentation of the person on the
cover, as the brand are somewhat trying
to show Beyoncé differently.
• The brand may have decided to
represent Beyoncé of a lighter skin tone,
as the brand L’Oreal doesn't’t feature a
lot of women with a different ethnic
background.
• When it comes to IPSO Complaints
System this would come under
‘misleading’ and ‘Discrimination'. This
is because the brand is discriminating
against women of a color as they are
perceiving their brand, to be a brand
which only photographs women of a
lighter skin tone.
https://thatgrapejuice.wordpress.com/categor
y/beyonce/page/12/
Despite the controversy that has ensued
regarding Beyoncé's unrecognizable ad for
L’Oréal, the French cosmetics giant have denied
altering the shot:
“We highly value our relationship with Ms.
Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal
Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin-
tone in the campaign for Feria’s hair color.”
Complaint Case Study.
Here is a recent complaint from the
music magazine NME,when
someone complained about a
inaccurate article which was
considered misleading and a breach
of the code “Accuracy". The article
was reported on Paul McCartney
singing event at HMV, which the
complainant attend. The complainant
disputed the claim that five hundred
copies of the singers newly-released
album had been signed at the event.
In this case the Press Complaints
Commission resolved this case.
Conclusion.
• The purpose of this learning outcome is that, I needed to access the risks and hazards when
producing my magazine, as well as the legal and ethical issues, which I may come across
when my magazine is being published.
• Firstly, I looked at the risk assessment when taking the photographs for my magazine, as
there were some penitential risks I decided create a ‘location recce’ this allowed me to
identify the possible risks and hazards near me when taking my images, I did this so I knew
what the risks were and so that they don’t cause harm to anyone involved in taking the
pictures.
• In then created two image plans which allowed me to know how I was going to take my
images ect. This included things like date, permission needed ad the potential hazards. I also
created another image plan although this included things like equipment, location and the
purpose of the shot type and the location.
• After this I created an email, asking for the subjects consent to take photos of him as I would
of needed to require permission from him. I also created a consent form, for more evidence.
Conclusion Continued.
• Following on in this learning outcome, I also analyzed some of the areas in
which would come under the ‘Code of Practice’ for IPOS complaints. I
analyzed a number of case studies in the media, and analyzed why they
come under the editors code of practice.
Test Photography.
For my photo-shoot, I decided to plan my for my images so I knew exactly what I was
going to do. I choose to photograph both females and males, I did this so at the end I
could decide which photo I liked best, and which fitted my genre of music, and the artist I
was going to interview.
So.. Finally I decided to use the photo of the two males, as they look similar, to the artist I
am interviewing as well as their style was up to date, and fitted in with the whole image
of what R&B and Rap is all about.
Although, when looking at my magazine of inspiration, I preferred how that looked when
it just had one person on the cover, I felt that my magazine would look better with just
one person as then they are the main focus of my magazine
Test Photography.
Model Requirements:
• At first, I decided to have two female
models, on my front cover and DPS as they
were very similar looking to Arianna
Grande and Beyoncé, although I decided to
change this as I wanted my star artist to
appeal to both genders, and I felt that
having too females on my front cover
would only really appeal to the female
audience and not the male.
• So then I decided to use to males for my
front cover and have them modelling as
the artists/rappers “Krept and Konan” as
both female and male like these artists,
although when it came to creating my
front cover and DPS I didn’t like the way
the image looked with two people in the
image, so then finally I decided to change
my image to just one person and using the
“Krept” interview, I prefer having just the
one person on my front cover and DPS, as
It draws the reader in and keeps the focus
on the image.
Test Photography-Front Cover.
Here is my test photographs for my front cover, I decided to go with the single image of
the person I took the photo of as, I think the image of just the one person, best appeals
to my target audience and best stereotypically fits in with my music genre. I also decided
to change my front cover from, female to male as again this best fits with the genre of
music my magazine will be. I also decided to keep just one person in the photo as I
thought my magazine looked more professional with a close up shot of one person.
I also decided to take photos of a range of different people with different styles, so that I
knew what type of style each person had and whether it fitted in with my music genre, I
final Idea was the image of just one male.
Test Photography-DPS.
Here I have taken some test photographs for my DPS, I decided to take photos of
both males and females, in the end I decided that my DPS would look a lot better
with just a male on the front, and I also decided to just have one male instead of
two as I wanted the attention just on the one person. Just like my front cover.
I also decided to change up the types of camera angles I used, in order to find the
best angle for my magazine.
I also decided to take a number of images, with both genders and different styles I
did this so that I could get an idea of which people would look best on my magazine
as well as which best fit my target audience, and which best fit the genre of music
my magazine will be focused at.
Final Images
Front Cover DPS
Pre-Production Material.
These are the colors I decided to go with for my
magazine front cover and DPS, the reason why I
decided to go with these colors is because they best
fitted in with my genre style, as well as fitting in with
the different artists I am going to be featuring in my
magazine. Red, and yellow are bold colors which
means they are going to stand out against the black
and grey colors in my magazine.
I also decided to keep the red theme in, from my
magazine of inspiration although, I would only use it
for conventions such as the puff promotion, headings
so that they will stand out.
Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses
cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity. Yellow is
very effective for attracting attention, so use it to
highlight the most important parts of my music
magazine.
Here are my 2nd magazine idea house colors, in the end I
decided not to pick these colors for my magazine, as I
felt that they didn't’t fit in with the genre of music I
decided to go with, as I felt that these colors were too
‘calm’ and ‘simple’. As opposed to black, white usually
has a positive connotation. White can represent a
successful beginning.
The colour blue is often associated with depth and
stability.

Graphic Layout-FRONT COVER-”Simply Sound”.
Firstly, the main Image of my magazine, I have
chose to use my main image covering the whole of
the magazine cover, The reason why I have done
this is to convey what my magazine is about and
what type of genre my magazine is.As well as this
having the main artist covering the whole page,
would also draw the reader into to reading the
magazine as if the star artist appeals to them.
Artist autograph I have decided to include an
artists autograph into each one of my magazines
depending on the artists, although I have decided
to not include it into every magazine I publish as
this could become to repetitive for the reader, as
well as this I’m going to include it into some of the
magazines to invite/surprise them as one of their
favourite artist autograph is on the page. House
colours I have thought about my house colours and
made sure that they appeal to each of my target
audiences men and women, so I have gone with
the theme of yellow, white and grey and added
some red in there for my puff promotions to catch
the readers eye. Price, I have decided to price my
magazine at £3.25 as this is a affordable price for
the age group my magazine fits into.
Graphic Layout-DPS-Final Idea-Pre-production
materials.
Double page spread-
I have decided to place everything on
my double page spread like this as I
feel it will draw the reader into
reading the page, I have also decided
to have my image on one side of the
page, as readers will be more
interested in reading my interview as
my target audience are young they
would’t want to read a lot of writing..
I have also decided to do this as it
makes my content consistent
throughout my magazine and means
therefore this has an impact on the
reader as they will remember my logo
and hopefully they will begin to buy
my magazine more frequently.

Double page spread-I have decided to place everything on my double page spread like this as I feel it will
draw the reader into reading the page, I have also decided to have my image on one side of the page, as
readers will be more interested in reading my interview as my target audience are young they would’t want
to read a lot of writing.. I have also decided to do this as it makes my content consistent throughout my
magazine and means therefore this has an impact on the reader as they will remember my logo and
hopefully they will begin to buy my magazine more frequently.
Pre-Production Materials.
Test 1-
Test 2-
Test 3-
Test 4-
Reason - When creating my magazine I want to make
sure that my magazine masthead is eye-catching to
the reader, I have come up with a name for my
magazine ‘Simply Sound’ the reason for choosing
this particular name I decided to reflect my
masthead on my logo, by this it is going to be simple
but eye-catching. I have chosen to call my magazine
‘simply sound’ because my magazine is simply going
to based round music which creates a ‘sound’ as well
as this some people use the word ‘sound’ as
describing something which is good.
Logo idea- For my logo I have decided to use to
first 2 letter of my masthead “SS” the reason for
choosing this is because its catching and the reader
will remember it easily. I have picked a similar font
to my masthead, I have created this logo on
Photoshop, making sure that I include my house
colours, yellow and grey. The background of the
logo is yellow and I plan to keep this the same
throughout the whole magazine. I used different
effects including stroke, bevel and emboss.1st Idea 2nd Idea Final Idea
Fonts.
• I used the www.dafonts.com as they had a huge
variety of different fonts which I could use in my
website. I was inspired from the font ‘SF Collogate’
for my magazine as the font big and thick which
would stand out as a masthead. I also used font from
the website which I used for the strapline as I though
it also fitted with my magazine style.
• This font is free for personal use so I am able to use it
although if I was to profit from the magazine, I would
have to contact the author of the font.
Copyright-DaFont.com
• There are specific rules put in place for certain fonts on da font, if the font has been created by a

Step By Step-Creating My Front Cover.
• Firstly, I created my front cover by using a template by creating one by file, new and using the
international option which then gave me a blank page, secondly I dragged the ruler tool
option down and created an brief outline of where I was going to place each convention of
my magazine. Then after this I changed the color of my background to my house colors(which
is grey), I then after this used the gradient affect so the background wans’t as harsh.
• Next, I placed my logo which I had already created before, and made sure that the blue ruler
lines where inside the logo and the side of the logo weren't going beyond the blue lines. I
then began to insert two shapes one for my strapline and one for my puff promotion, and
made sure that each time I added something in I named each layer.
• After this I included texted, by using the pen tool to create a box, which meant when typing
my text wouldn't’t go outside that box, and that when placing any images in that the text
goes around the image nicely. After this I went onto a different document and opened up my
front cover image, and began to use the quick selection tool to remove the background, after
this I placed this image on to my front cover making sure I moved the image layer above my
background layer in order for it to sit in front of the background and show up. Once I had
positioned my image in correctly and balanced it out on the page, I used the bending tool on
the image and blended the edges of the image so that it merges in with the background, and
doesn't’t look like I have just placed the image in.
• After this, I typed in some of my cover stories and made sure I labeled each layer
corresponding to what each cover story was called, once I had done this is corrected the font
style to how I wanted it and made sure that each word/phrase was in alignment with each
other and that they were all the same size.
Step by step-Creating My Front Cover.
• As well as this I then began to create my barcode, I did this by created a
white shape in order to back/board my barcode, after this is in ported a
picture of a barcode that I had previously found, and inserted in a re-
shaped it to size making sure that I held down shift and re-sized my image
I did this so that I didn't’t pixilate the image. After getting my image of the
barcode to the size that I wanted, I used the text tool, and just underneath
the barcode, I typed out the following “issue 1, DATE and PRICE”. I then re-
sized, and highlighted the text and used the arrows on the keyboard, and
moved the text so that it was more in the middle of the barcode.
• After this is imported images such as Facebook logo and twitter as well as
my logo I then used the ruler tool to make sure that when positioning my
smaller images for my barcode that they were all in-line with each other
and as well as this they were all the same size, and weren't too big.
Step by Step-Creating My Front Cover.
• After this I began to create my ‘puff promotion’ I did this by using the shape tool
and picked the shape which looked like this the reason for this is I wanted to make
sure that it stood out against my main image and doesn't’t get lost between all my
other features.
• Once I had created the shape that I wanted for my puff promotion, I used the
filters on that shape and began to sharpen the shape even more so it would pop
against the dark background, I then clicked on the text tool and filled in my puff
promotion reading ‘ win a free iTunes voucher'. While doing this I made sure that I
was labeling/renaming my layers.
• When it comes to the main image, I have already sized the image to the correct
size as well as this I have used to quick easer tool to get rid of the background, so
now I have a cropped image, I then again clicked on filters and sharped it, as well
as using the blending tool to blend the edges.
Final product
Step by Step-Creating my front cover.
• Next, I began to look at my magazine of inspiration and used the shape
tool to create rectangle boxes, I made sure the all the boxes were in line
with each other using the ruler tool, after this Is type into each box artists
and groups. Then I began to play around with the colour of the fronts, and
decided to go with a black box and white text.
• After this is began to perfect my main image, blurring out any
imperfections.
Step by Step-Double Page Spread.
• Firstly, I started off with a blank template for my DPS, I then began to
insert the ruler lines, using the ruler tool (ctrl r), I did this as it was copying
the lay out from one of my ‘Q music magazines’ and new exactly where I
was going to place everything. Starting of with my background, I went
onto Google images and found a grey brick wall background, then inserted
this onto my background only covering half the background as well as
holding down shift while re-sizing so that the image didn’t pixelate. The on
a separate document I insert the main image I was going to use and then
using the quick selection tool and went around the two people in my
image getting rid of the background, after I did the I dragged the image
into my magazine and re-sized according to the size of the page, after this I
went onto blending options and made sure all the edges of the image
weren't harsh and blended well against the brick wall.
Step By Step- Double Page Spread.
• After this using the shape too I inserted a rectangle at the top of my page
and filled it in with grey to match my house styles using the paint bucket
tool. After this using the text tool I inserted all the text that I wanted
making sure that the text layer was above the shape layer in order for it to
show up. Then I began to adjust the colours of the text to fit my house
styles as well playing around with the font. When inserting the text I used
the ruler tool to make sure that everything was inline.
• After this I began to move the ruler tools that I used for a guide and then
started to insert my interview I had already pre-made but I began to use
the text tool and by doing this it makes sure that my text goes around my
images on the page as well as making sure the text doesn’t over lap with
the images, once I didn’t this in double checked any spelling or
punctuation errors before putting my interview into the magazine.
Step By Step-Double Page Spread.
• Next, I highlighted all the questions in bold, and then inserted a quote for
affect. After this at the bottom of the page I added another text box and
inserted a web link, and then added both page numbers.
Cross Convergence Media.
• Cross Convergence media is how production companies use a
variety of media’s to display their product.
• Magazine companies own a print version, a website and a
Facebook page.
• Within my magazine I will be using hashtags, to link to to my
magazines Twitter page, I will also being having hashtags and
as wells other tags to link to our Facebook page.
Social Media for my Magazine.
Final Outcome-Magazine Front Cover and Double Page Spread.
Post-Production Publishing Tools.
• When producing my magazine Front Cover and Double-Page Spread. I used a
number of tools on Abobe Photoshop, to create my magazine cover.
This is the Paint Bucket Tool- I used this to fill in large areas
of color, I also used the gradient tool which works with the
paint bucket tool, I did this to create a gradient affect for my
background.
This is the quick selection tool- This allows me to click a
part of the background quickly, and able to delete it
quickly.
This is the pen tool- This allowed me to use this to create
boxes where my text was meat to go, I did this by using the
ruler tool markings as a guide were I was going to put my
text, I did this so that my photos didn’t over lap with my text.
I used CTRL R- The reason for this is for the ruler
tool, this is because I used the blue ruler lines as
a guide to insure all my conventions like my
social media logos were in line and straight.
Post-Production-Publishing Tools.
Shift tool- I used shift when resizing my
images I did this because when sizing my
images, if I didn’t hold down shift, then this
would mean that my images would become
blurry.
The gradient tool- This allowed me to, edit my
background from one block colour to a gradient affect.
Text tools- I used all these texted
tools, such as typing text, adjusting
the height and width of the text
depending on the size of the page. I
could change the opacity of the text.
Conclusion.
• In this learning outcome, I focused on explaining how I began to produce my magazine, and
what I did to create the final product. I did this by creating a step by step of how I produced
my magazine front cover, and double page spread. I also did this by creating a mood board
with images of artists my magazine relates to or that I will be featuring in it., this illustrates
several features in the magazine, such as colours, target audience and music genre. This is
the main inspiration for the magazine.
• I also explained the post productions tools I used on adobe Photoshop, in order to create my
magazine.
• When it came to the production process, I wanted to edit my images so they looked
professional when I did this I then created an image plan, in the image plan I also included
test photography, I did this so I could get an idea of what shot type looked best and what
type of lighting would look best, this was an act of trial and error to see which photo was of a
high quality.
Deadlines.
• It was important that I put in place
deadlines to ensure that the production of
my magazine runs smoothly, and that my
magazine is produced to a high quality and
professional standard.
• I put in place a production plan which
consisted of a 3 week plan to come up with
ideas, finalize ideas and produce the
magazine and get it distributed out to the
public.
• I can say that I have stuck to this plan, as
my magazine will be released on its release
date,(1st November 2015) and that all the
pages have been produced and that I have
include every feature needed to insure my
magazine is off a professional standard.
• As you can see from the second screenshot,
this is all the deadlines for each unit 14, in
which we have to stick by, throughout each
learning outcome I have managed to stick to
the right deadline ensuring I’m still on track.
Post Production Skills.
• To create my magazine front cover and double page spread, I used the software
Photoshop C55.1 to do this., I chose to use this software over any other as this
was the software which allowed me to create features which looked
professional. Some of the main features I used were the pen tool, quick selection
tool, the ruler tool, eraser, text, and the gradient tool. I used the pen tool, and
the ruler tool, to create even, and in-line boxes which allowed me to type texted
into, I used the pen tool to insure that none of my text would be overlapping my
images, by doing this it insured that my text went around my images.
Safe Working Practices.
• I found that it is always best to cropping out my background, when editing my magazine or
locking my background, and ensuring I use a professional background. It is also important
that I used the pen tool by using the ‘pen tool’ (P) it is important because my magazine
pages will look the same, and will look neat when going through my magazine, therefore
having the text/interview going around any images will give it a professional look as well as
it will look appealing to the reader., and that it is important that everything is in line with
each other, and look aesthetically pleasing to the eye and not may people would pick up a
magazine if it looks messy.
• Another good example of an important tool would be the ‘eye dropper tool’ I used this to
make sure all my house colors are the same. To make my magazine look professional I used
this tool in order to get the exact color as I used before.
• Another factor which I used a lot was the when resizing an image I insured that I held
down the shift key I did this to ensure none of my images went blurry or pixelated.
• As well as insuring I was saving my work regularly so I didn’t loose anything.
• There are specific rules put in place for certain fonts on da font, if the font has been created by a
specific person and they wish to put in place a copyright rule then they can.
• For example:
Here is an example of someone downloading a particular font on Dafont.com, and they have been told to
contact the people who designed that particular font, to email them.
==-=--=----=--------=----------------=----------------=--------=----=--=-==
You've just downloaded a T Y P E A R O U N D F O N T ! Yay!

Proof Reading and Sub-Editing.
• On my double page spread I made sure that I proof read all my work, in
case that anything was spelt wrong, or didn’t make sense.
• I made sure that this was all correct by first typing up, my interview into a
Word Document which allowed me to see any incorrect spellings, as well
as anything which didn't’t make sense , I decided to edit any spelling
mistakes or grammar in a word document as it was a lot easier for me to
edit the interview and change it.
• Here is evidence, of on a Word Document it has picked up words which
may be spelt incorrectly, or any phrases which may not make sense.
Proof Reading and Sub-Editing.
Here is evidence of a screenshot that I have proof read my work on, a Word Document,
gone through it and checked for any spelling or grammar mistakes, as you can see I have
edited and, corrected incorrect words or phrases using the spell check tool on Word.
I did this to insure that everything was spelt correctly before transferring it over to my
double page spread, doing this is key as it means I wont be wasting time having to change
my double page spread because words and phrases were spelt in correctly. This is also key
as I want to make my magazine look as professional as I can, and spelling or grammar
mistakes wont make it look professional.
Before
After
Proof Reading Continued.
Here I have given evidence of
screenshots from where I have
proof read my magazine
interview. After checking the
spelling, punctuation and
grammar (thereby taking on the
role of a sub-editor), I then went
onto ‘Window’ then ‘Paragraph’
to remove ‘Hyphenate’ in order
to ensure that the text is
presented on the correct line.
House Colour.
• When it came to my house colours, of my magazines, I wanted to insure that I would
targeting both genders when it came to the colours I used. Therefore, this is why I
decided to use the colours grey and yellow, with black text and certain conventions in
red in order to stand out, and catch the readers eye.
• I decided with Red, and yellow as they are bold colors which means they are going to
stand out against the black and grey colors in my magazine.
• I also decided to keep the red theme in, from my magazine of inspiration although, I
would only use it for conventions such as the puff promotion, headings so that they
will stand out.
• Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity.
Colour
Here is evidence of where I have tested
different colours, for my magazine front
cover.
I did this so that I was aiming the colours I
decided to go with at both target
audiences. Here is also evidence of me
using the eye dropper tool, to save
previous colours I have used so that I am
able to come back and use them again
this ensures that all the colours are same
shade so that my magazine looks of a high
quality.
Colour Change.
Changes Made-
Front cover.
I decided to change the background, as I thought it was too dark and I felt that it didn't’t resemble the type of
music I would be featuring (dark- connotes to rock/metal music). I change the background to a light grey as this
made the artist on the front stand out.
I also then decided to change the images, as it didn't’t look of a high quality, therefore this meant that it didn't’t
look as professional. I decided to stick to having one person on the cover of my magazine, as this meant all the
focus would be on them, and also meant that when it comes to editing the image, I would be able to spend a lot
of time editing just the one image.
As well as this is began to change some of the features on my magazine like, the text down the side of the page,
by editing the fonts, and colors of the text and any text boxes.
Final Changes Made Continued.
I edited my logo, and included under the
logo, ‘Simply Sound’ to inform my readers
of what my magazine is called.
As, I changed my image from two people,
to one person I changed the position of the
image, and brought the image forward, so
that it stands out for the readers.
I also to take inspiration from my magazine
of inspiration and decided to overlap my
image over my logo slightly as it draws it all
together.
I also began to sharpen my image, as
before the image was blurry as it was firstly
taken on an IPhone, I then changed the
image, and improved the quality of the
image by using a Nikon Camera.
Fonts, and colors improved to fit in with
the color scheme.
Changes Made for my DPS. Similarly, to my front cover I was also
given feedback to improve my double
page spread, from my publisher when
pitching my magazine to him, I decided
to change a number of features, such as
the image of the two boys. As well as
fonts, background, and the positioning
of the interview.
I also then decided to change the
images, as it didn't’t look of a high
quality, therefore this meant that it
didn't’t look as professional. I decided
to stick to having one person on the
cover of my magazine, as this meant
all the focus would be on them, and
also meant that when it comes to
editing the image, I would be able to
spend a lot of time editing just the one
image.
Final Changes made Continued (Improved).
Compared to my first double
page spread idea, I have edited
and changed it in a number of
ways, as I was given feedback
from the publisher I was
pitching too, to improve on it.
I took this into consideration,
as I wanted my magazine too
look of a high quality, and
professional standard so that
my magazine standard is high
when competing against other
magazine competitors.
The main features I changed on
my magazine was the image, I
changed the image to featuring
just one person as I wanted
this to be the first thing the
readers see, therefore if the
image is interesting, and of a
high quality this would entice
readers to read on in the
magazine.
I changed the quality of the image by using a Nikon Camera,
whereas to before I was using an IPhone this was a much better
way of taking my images, as I was able to adjust to brightness,
and the zoom on the camera more without it going blurry.
Conclusion.
• In this final learning outcome, this conveys where I have already produced my
magazine, although have gone back through and made changes to my magazine
such as editing. This includes the use of Abobe Photoshop's, in which I have
highlighted the tools and features I have used in order to produce a high quality
front cover and double page spread.
• It was important that I considered all the deadlines to insure that my magazine was
produced in time, to be released on its release date. I did this by referencing back
to my production plan, making sure everything was completed on each date. This
also links to when I also created pre-production, and the post-production plan,
which made it a lot more easier to follow each step by step. By creating a
production plan, and pre-production plan, this insured that the production of my
magazine would run efficiently.
• Within my post-production plan, I used a number of tools to help me produce a
high quality magazine, and were to a professional standard. When doing this I
insured that I explained the safe working practises, and the tools I used.
• At the end of this learning outcome, I have given evidence of how I have improve
my magazine front cover and double page spread, which I was given feedback from
my publisher in my witness statement when pitching my magazine to them, I
changed a number of features to my magazine and tool into consideration what my
publisher had told me, I did this as I wanted to insure my magazine was to a
professional standard, and was of a high quality when competing against other
music magazines.

  • 4.
  • 5. Mood Board Conclusion. • I decided to go with this mood board over my other idea, as I thought that the artists on this mood board as I thought the artists I including on this one were more targeted at my target audience, as well as when I looked back to my Survey Monkey they were more interested in R&B and Rap. • I have included both female and male artists so that they appeal to both of my target audiences.
  • 6. Magazine Logo/Masthead. Test 2. Test 3. Reason - When creating my magazine I want to make sure that my magazine masthead is eye-catching to the reader, I have come up with a name for my magazine ‘Simply Sound’ the reason for choosing this particular name I decided to reflect my masthead on my logo, by this it is going to be simple but eye-catching. I have chosen to call my magazine ‘simply sound’ because my magazine is simply going to based round music which creates a ‘sound’ as well as this some people use the word ‘sound’ as describing something which is good. Logo idea- for my logo I have decided to use to first 2 letter of my masthead “SS” the reason for choosing this is because its catching and the reader will remember it easily. I have picked a similar font to my masthead, I have created this logo on Photoshop, making sure that I include my house colours, yellow and grey. The background of the logo is yellow and I plan to keep this the same throughout the whole magazine. I used different effects including stroke, bevel and emboss. Test 1. Final test 1st idea 2nd idea 3rd(final) idea
  • 7. Magazine and Fonts. Font Name Font Preview Font Usage Impact Headline - Headline - Main Article Title Bodoni 72 Smallcaps Book Puff Promotion -Puff Promotion Eurostile Text -text and information such as interviews. Bodoni 72 Smallcaps Book Puff Promotion -Puff Promotion Font-When deciding what font I want in my magazine, I want to make sure that it is consistent throughout. I have also made sure that my font looks interesting as it would appeal/address to the target audience. I have chosen several fonts that will be used in my magazine, because some are easier to read than others when sized differently, although I didn't want my magazine to contain a lot of different fonts as it could just confuse the reader, and become messy. House Colour-My main colour schemes in my magazine are going to be grey and yellow. The reason I have picked these two colours is because I want my magazine to appeal to both girls and boys. So therefore the grey side of the magazine is for the boys and the yellow for the girls, so that my magazine is covering both genders.
  • 8. Magazine House Colours. • For my final magazine house colours, I decided to go with the colour, grey yellow black and red. I went for these colours in particular as they fitted well with my genre of music I would be featuring within my magazine, as well as these colors' both addressing each target audience. These are the colors I decided to go with for my magazine front cover and DPS, the reason why I decided to go with these colors is because they best fitted in with my genre style, as well as fitting in with the different artists I am going to be featuring in my magazine. Red, and yellow are bold colors which means they are going to stand out against the black and grey colors in my magazine. I also decided to keep the red theme in, from my magazine of inspiration although, I would only use it for conventions such as the puff promotion, headings so that they will stand out. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity. Yellow is very effective for attracting attention, so use it to highlight the most important parts of my music magazine. “Genre’s are instances of repetition and difference” (Steve Neale 1980) Some of the conventions I will be repeating in my magazine will be, the house style and color. The reason why I have decided to repeat my house color throughout my magazine and not change them, as I want my audience to become familiar with my house style/colors in order for them to recognize my magazine due to the colors in shops compared to other magazines.
  • 12. Interview Draft Planning. This image conveys how I have drafted a dew questions and ideas for my interview, going over what I would ask. After planning I began to write up the interview with a series of questions. I began to draft questions before finalizing what I was actually going to write, I did this so that I wasn’t just asking closed questions like ‘Yes or No'. I also drafted questions as to make sure that they fit with the artist I am interviewing. I chose Krept and Konan because they are a popular well known group and fits in well with my target audience.
  • 13. Final Copy of Interview. Krept joins us at Simply Sound to chat about his life in music and his lifestyle out of his music career. So Krept lets get the questions rolling, how old were you when you started off in the music industry? Krept: I was around 13 years when I started loving music. I started to make up my own raps after school and my other mates would join in and we would have a rap off (laughs). So basically that is how it all started and I’m still creating raps to this day. We love your music and your rapping is great. When you were younger did you think you would be here today? Krept: Nah defo not, we just began making up raps in our bedroom after school for a bit of fun, and now were here sharing those raps we made with our friends. What do you aim for you music to do to the younger generation? Krept:I just wanted my music to inspire young people, as when I was growing up music play a huge part of my life. I want my music to motivate people to carry on with their goals you know, and it can show that like me coming from a run down house in Croydon you can make it somewhere in the world. What could be a motivation quote you could give to your fans then? There's going to be times in your life when people tell you, you can't do something, and there's going to be times in your life when people tell you, you cant live your dreams. Have you had any favourite or life changing moments this year? Krept- My favourite moment by far was when i performed at Reading Festival the crowd when crazy man! The screams were so loud! It was unreal to think that all these people have come to see me perform. Who’s your celebrity friend, and is there anyone you would like to make a song with? Krept: I've always wanted to make music with Kanye West as his music inspired me a lot, I've got a few celebrity friends, most of them singers or rappers like Stormzy, and Ed Sheeran. I would love to preform with Fetty Wrap as I'm close mates with him, but we live such busy life's, when it comes to preforming our timings never add up. How do you come up with the raps you make? Krept-I tend to base my raps around passed experiences in life when growing up I didn’t have the best childhood you know always getting into trouble and fights in school, getting myself mixed up with the wrong people, like joining gangs. Do you think young people are targets for this type of up bringing, getting themselves into gangs? And a fan wanted to know do you have any pets? Krept: yeah course, there are so many young people getting mixed up in the wrong groups, getting involved in drugs and crime, you know I was young too and got mixed up with the wrong people. Krept- Yeah I’ve got a family, but would love to have a pet of our own but cant as were always on the go. Who do you base your style of clothing on? Krept- my style icon is Usher, I've always been inspired by what he wears and he can make wearing sunglasses in the dark, good !! (LAUGHS) Hahaha yeah he can, is there a song which you have enjoyed writing the most? Krept –My most enjoyable song I have written would be Dreams featuring Ed Sheeran, I loved writing this song with Ed as he’s a huge inspiration to me selling out the O2, when he first started off singing on the streets for some pocket money .. Now look where he is!! ahhh no way! I'm a HUGE fan of Ed Sheeran!! I think that’s all for now Krept, thank you for coming in and answering some questions for us the fans will love that motivational quote. Krept- no problem, anytime. Good Luck at Wireless, and we hope to see you soon!!
  • 16. Location Recce Location Time Date Why? Photography Studio- Firstly, I took this image in our Photography studio at school, the reason why I decided to take the image here is because the studio had lighting which I was able to use, to create good lighting for my image. I also decided to take photos in the photography studio as they had a number of different backgrounds I could use. Blank Wall in the classroom- I took this image in casual places against a plain white wall in my classroom, I decided to do this as I needed a plain background so that it was easy to edit my image, in Photoshop. I also decided to take a photo in my classroom, as I wanted to see how the images turned out when using natural lighting. Picture Needed/Required Shot Type Props/Equipment Lighting Costume Person/People Why? The shot type I used was a ‘medium close up shot’ the reason why I used a medium close up shot was because this is the shot was used for my magazine of inspiration, and this is what I was basing my magazine off. As well as this I wanted the main focus to be on the artist on the front cover. Person used- Will Eze (student) Lighting I used was artifical lighting in the photography studio, I also used a plain background which was already in the studio, I didn’t require much props as I didn’t want my image to be too busy, I liked how it look when it was simple. The clothing that will was using was up to date clothing, in the image he is wearing a black top from Topman, as well as a beige coat also from Topman in the image he is always wearing black jeans but you cannot see them in the shot. The reason why I chose to use Will for my magazine is because his style best fits my magazine style and genre of the music which is R&B and Rap. As well as this I wanted the main focus to be on the artist on the front cover. I didn’t require much props as I didn’t want my image to be too busy, I liked how it look when it was simple. The clothing that will was using was up to date clothing, in the image he is wearing a black top, I decided to get will to remove his jacket, as I didn’t want the image to look exactly the same as my front cover image.

  • 19. Photography Explained. My models are going represent how fun, the magazine is and how up to date it will be each month. • The models I am going to use, one is average in height, and the other model is slightly taller, I am doing this as it creates a good contrast for the magazine and also appeals to anyone. Wardrobe and Look: • Their clothing is going to be very up to date and fit in with the 2015 fashion, I have also decided that they are going to be smart casual as this fits the idea of my magazine. • I have also decided to put them in up to date clothing as this could inspire some of the readers by what they are wearing. As well as this there facial expressions are going to very pouty and girly! • My source of inspiration is ‘Q music magazine 'and ‘We love pop’. I have also chosen these two people, as they have been told that they have been told that they look like my artists featuring in my magazine Krept and Konan. These are a few of my magazine cover ideas, although I am inspired by these images I most likely wont use them as I want to just have the one model on the page. Although, I decided to change my images as I didn’t feel that they fitted into my genre of music. Final Image(Front cover) Final Image (DPS)

Before taking my images for my Front cover and Double page spread, I made a list of equipment I made need. The main parts of my prop list was the Costume of the person I was going to take a picture of, as well as technical equipment, and any additional props I may need. It was important that I went into detail about the equipment, like the lens cap, SD card etc. did this so that when it came to clearing up and I had finished taking my photos I could go back and look at my prop list so I knew I had everything. The camera I which I used was the Nikon D3100 I used this so that I could produce the best quality images.
  • 21. Prop Sourcing. • When I took my photos there was a number of props which I used, in order to get professional looking photos. I worked with one of them was artificial studio lighting this is how my first test photography turned out for my front cover image. To take my photos I used a Nikon DSLR. • 23. Location Of Images When taking my images I had to come up with where I was going to take them, I decided to take them in the photography studio using a white wall, as well as using stage lighting. I decided to take test photography shots in two places as I wanted to see which images came out best, I had to insure that the area in which I was taking the images was safe a free of any hazards that could Injure anyone around me when taking the images. I therefore carried out an risk assessment of the locations in which I was taking the pictures.
  • 24. Risk Assessment-Image Risk Assessment. • Before taking my images I had to make sure that any of the people I was going to take a picture of was happy to be photographed. I asked each of my models individually if they were happy to be photographed, and if they were happy to be put onto my magazine as all of them said yes that I had their permission to do so.As well I emailed all the people I would be taking a photo off to ask for their permission as well and to copy over their signature onto the email if I had their permission. Evidence of an email I have sent, to the people I want to take photos of.
  • 25. Risk Assessment-Software Risk Assessment Software Risk Assessment- • When creating my magazine cover and DPS I made sure that when I choice my image, I held down shift the reason for doing this is so that when I went to resize I held shift so that my image didn’t pixilate and loose its image quality. As well I also made sure that when I began to edit my magazine cover and include text for the front cover and DPS I used the ruler tool I did this so that my text didn’t over lap any of my images, I also used the ruler tool to make sure that my text was all in line, and straight. • As well when I was picking what house colours I wanted, I made sure that they were consistent throughout my whole magazine to insure that people would recognise my magazine more if they were to see it in a shop. I did this by using the ‘eye dropper’ tool, this allows me to click on a part of my magazine which I have already coloured, so that I can use it to colour another part of my magazine, this also allows me to use it so that I get the exact same colour.
  • 28. Planned Format and Style - Front Cover- Pre-production materials. Masthead; I have decided to have my masthead in the left hand corner of the page, I have done this because I still want to include my logo although I want the artist to be the main attraction. I was inspired to do this my Q music magazine. Main image; for my magazine I have change the idea of having the artist cover the whole page, but I have decided to have the artist in the middle of the page, the reason for this is that this magazine is going to contain less images and more fun, inviting information I have done this as my magazine needs to appeal to all types of audiences. Barcode, price and date; I am keeping the barcode in the same place like Q magazine. Main title; I have decided to keep it traditional and have the title at the top of the page the reason for this is that I want to keep the focus on the ‘star artist’ although I still want the title to link to the ‘star artist’ on the front page. Puff Promotion; Instead of a puff promotion that reads ‘free gift’ I have included a ‘coming soon’ puff promotion as others who are willing to buy the magazine on a monthly basis may appeal to them more. I have ladled/coloured it in red in order to stand out. Cover stories; I want to include more information about the content that can be found inside the magazine. Therefore I plan to include a small textbox with the name of one artist and their autograph inviting the reader in. This will be placed over the front cover subjects lower chest, as this is not considered as an important area that creates ‘star appeal’, as well as this it would still give the reader an insight as to what the magazine is about.. Like I said I have decided to go with this hand drawn draft although, I have taken the idea of just having one person on the cover which I took from my 1st idea.
  • 29. Main Interview; the main part of my interview is going to be to the right hand side of the page, I have done this because I feel that while the reader is reading the information about the star artist they are able to refer back to the image while they are reading. Pull Quote; Having a pull quote form my interview in bold, this will attract the readers to the quote which would get them interested in the interview, it also demonstrates what will be in the interview and what it is based on and who is it about. Page number; Will be shown on each page at the bottom corner or each page. Pre Production Material- Double Page Spread. Final Product
  • 30. Graphic Layouts-Final Ideas-Pre-production materials. Firstly, the main Image of my magazine, I have chose to use my main image covering the whole of the magazine cover, The reason why I have done this is to convey what my magazine is about and what type of genre my magazine is. As well as this having the main artist covering the whole page, would also draw the reader into to reading the magazine as if the star artist appeals to them. Artist autograph I have decided to include an artists autograph into each one of my magazines depending on the artists, although I have decided to not include it into every magazine I publish as this could become to repetitive for the reader, as well as this I’m going to include it into some of the magazines to invite/surprise them as one of their favourite artist autograph is on the page. House colours I have thought about my house colours and made sure that they appeal to each of my target audiences men and women, so I have gone with the theme of yellow, white and grey and added some red in there for my puff promotions to catch the readers eye. Price, I have decided to price my magazine at £1.25 as this is a affordable price for the age group my magazine fits into.
  • 31. Cross Media Convergence • Cross Media Convergence is how production companies use a variety of media’s to display their product. • Magazine companies own a print version, a website and a Facebook page. • Within my magazine I will be using hashtags, to link to to my magazines Twitter page, I will also being having hashtags and as wells other tags to link to our Facebook page.
  • 32. Cross Media Convergence continued and Social Media Information for my Magazine.
  • 33. Conclusion. • In this learning outcome I focused on creating the pre-production materials for the planned print based media product. I first of all created both DPS and front cover hand drawn-drafts, by doing this it insured I knew exactly where I was going to place each convention on the page, what type of camera angle I was going to use, and how it would look on my magazine cover. When creating my hand drawn drafts, I highlighted the different feature that will be included on the pages such as puff promotion and masthead. I did this as these features are really important to include in my magazine, as they all aim to draw the reader in.I did this by creating some graphic layouts which were based of my hand drawn drafts, these were created by using shapes on PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop CS5. • I then went into more depth, and the smaller features of my magazine such as the barcode, price and date, I worked out when I wanted my magazine to be released by creating a production plan.
  • 34. Conclusion • I created a production plan stage which would help to in the future as, it would save time as it means that I would be able to get my magazine out as quick as possible, so by creating a magazine production plan this means that everything when it comes to producing my magazine, is prepared and well thought-out so that there isn't as faults.
  • 35. Conclusion. • In this learning outcome I focused on the pre-production materials for my magazine. I included my first front cover and double page spread hand-drawn drafts as well as my graphic layouts. In which these highlighted the different features and conventions I would be including in my magazine, as well as knowing where I was going to place everything on the page, such as puff promotion, and the technical convergence. • By doing this is allowed me to figure out which conventions looked best on my magazine in order for it too look professional, as well as if some didn't’t look as good as others I was able to research to find out what the main features were for a magazine. • Finally, I looked in more detail of the smaller features of a magazine, such as the different types of font, the images where they were being placed on the page and the layout of the interviews I did this so that I could gather ideas for the production of my own magazine. • After I gathered all my information I began to plan and prepare for the production stage which later on in the future when it comes to producing more magazines it would save time. To support this I created a production plan.

  • 37. Interview with Publisher. • I had an one to one interview with the publisher in which I was pitching my two magazine ideas to, in this interview he gave me feedback on how I could improve on my pitch, and areas in which could be improved on for future pitches to come. • He pointed out that I needed to make more eye-contact with the employees I was pitching to as well as him, he also suggested to not relay on my script as much as this it can see unprofessional. • Although, he pointed out positive points such as I spoke clearly so that everyone could understand the point I was trying to get across as well as this he also said that all my slides were clear enough to read, and that I laid them out in a professional manor.
  • 38. Location Recce. Here I have shown in pictures of what some of the hazards could be when I’m taking my pictures. To make sure me or the person I am taking a picture of doesn’t get injured, I will make sure these thigs don’t happen, like having liquids near anything electrical. As well as have wires not tucked away, so that they are out of the way so that none trips on them. Tripping hazard!!
  • 39. The clothing that will was using was up to date clothing, in the image he is wearing a black top from Topman, as well as a beige coat also from Topman in the image he is always wearing black jeans but you cannot see them in the shot. • 45. Hazards at the work place. • The health and safety at Work Act, consists of general, commission, regulations and provisions. These can be where a worker needs to look after themselves as well as anyone else who could be affected by their work. • Also this is a law which workers within the working place where their heath and safety surroundings are controlled regularly and that everything around them is safe. If they feel the that the area isn’t safe then they are able to talk to their manager or supervisor about it. • A risk assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork , but rather about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your workplace. http://www.healthyworkinglives.com/advice/workplace-hazards

  • 52. How my magazine conforms to the codes. Intellectual property- Is Having the right type of intellectual property protection helps you to stop people stealing or copying. This applies to my magazine as I will be able to stop anyone from trying to steal any of my information images etc., and say it is their own, so this is really important I have this can it protects all my information and other properties of mine. As well this also applies to other people who have the right to protect their property. This would link to my magazine as if someone wanted to use my magazine they would need my permission to do so.Or I would need a companies permission to use their logo in my magazine. Copyright Issues- Copyright is a form of protection given to the authors or creators of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and other intellectual works copyright is massively important when it comes to producing my music magazine, as the editors and producers of my magazine would have to insure that they are aren't using any images without the persons permission, or this could be seen as breaking the laws of copyright. If we were to use an image that is owned by some else we are able to get in contact with the person who owns the image and ask them if we are able to use their image. Data Protection Act- Making sure I project my content with my magazine if really important, I will do this by using ‘data protection act’ this protects any personal information and any personal information kept within my publishing company. An example of this is that it need to be used correctly, fairly, this also means that they keep protected employees beliefs, opinions and any criminal records. This is important that we keep this safe because someone's personal life could affect the company and each worker should have privacy when it comes within work life and home life. https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-property-an-overview
  • 53. Intellectual Property A watermark is a form of intellectual property copyright, this can be found on, online and in written work ect. It can be shown by using a faint design of the copyright logo or, the name of the company who the image as created by. It is important that this is done so that none can use your image without permission. Also, if someone uses your image without permission you will know as the company's logo is hard to get rid of as the name of the company when on the picture is typically layered over the top of the image. I think in my case as my magazine will be featuring a lot of images, it is important that I protect my images, this is because images are easier to use over written work because of “copy and paste”.
  • 71. Production Legal and Ethical Issues. Before my magazine can be published and brought by readers, there factors which need to be covered before my magazine is released to the public. The two main companies which cover the media publishing, these re Independent Press Standards Organisation(IPSO) and Advertisement Standard Authority(ASA).This both companies are based in the UK and work with dealing with any complaints that have been made in the media industry. Some of the things they deal with is Copyright, ethical issues, discrimination, children and accuracy. Copyright- (LEGAL CONSTRAINTS) • Copyright is a form of protection given to the authors or creators of "original works of authorship," including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and other intellectual works copyright is massively important when it comes to producing my music magazine, as the editors and producers of my magazine would have to insure that they are aren't using any images without the persons permission, or this could be seen as breaking the laws of copyright. The Right To Privacy-(LEGAL CONSTRAINTS) • Everyone is entitled to their rights of privacy. Therefore when it comes to publishing content about people I need to make sure that I am not breaching anyone privacy or any regulations. To make sure that all content is acceptable, and not breaching anyone's privacy, I must ask all the people who are featuring in my magazine for their permission to use photos and information about them.
  • 72. Production Legal and Ethical Issues. Discrimination-(ETHICAL CONSTRAINTS). • My magazine will be responsible for all its content which is included in it magazine. All the content inside my magazine has to meet the editors code of practice. Therefore no content should be included in my magazine which could be offensive to certain individuals based on race, color, religion, gender and sexual orientation. Although, so of this could be mentioned in certain parts of my content, only if it has appropriate relevance to the story. Children-(ETHICAL CONSTRAINTS). • As children are considered vulnerable, which means there are limitations to what can be published about children. Therefore it is important if I was going to include any content/pictures of children in my magazine I would have to have a contract of agreement from the child’s parent/guardian for them to sign so that they allow us to publish content if the content is necessary. This is really important that this happens for safeguarding of children, in order to keep a positive reputation of my magazine. http://www.unicef.org/magic/briefing/childmedia_internet.html
  • 74. Press Complaints Commission. Linking IPSO to My Own Magazine. When producing my music magazine I will have to consider the editors code of practice. I will have to make sure my magazine doesn’t include areas which are highlighted in the editors code. On the official Press Complaints Commission website it states that when producing a magazine and anyone who helps produce that magazine need to “ have a duty to maintain the highest professional standards”, this conveys that anyone who writes any content which Is going to be featured in the magazine that it needs to be professional so that it fits in with the code of practice. Areas that are in featured within the code of practice: 1. Accuracy. 2. Opportunity to reply. 3. Privacy. 4. Harassment. 5. Intrusion into grief or shock. 6. Children in sex cases. 7. Hospitals. 8. Reporting of Crime Clandestine devices and Subterfuge(Hidden cameras or microphones). 9. Victims of Sexual Assault. 10. Discrimination 11. Financial Journalism. 12. Confidential Sources. 13. Witness payments in criminal trials. 14. Payment to criminals. All information within the magazine has to be stated in the editors code, as well as this any areas which are featured in the code of practice such as ‘children in sex cases’ needs to be highlighted. This means all the editors will have to do an over view of the content with our magazine and need to make sure that they fit into the editors code of practice. As well as if any of our content is breached then, we have the responsibility to deal with any complaints directly from the complaints website ‘Press Complaints Commission’ which could be a complaint about copyright or breaching someone's privacy.
  • 75. Editors Code relating to my Magazine. • IPSO will contact me as the creator of my magazine if there are any complaints made about my magazine from the public. This may happen if my magazine brakes any of the ‘Editors’ Code of Practise’. For example my magazine will have to be accurate in what it ends up publishing, which may mislead the readers, and make people believe and think false claims are true. Therefore if there is any incorrect within my magazine therefore I will have to act quick to correct this. • Insuring that journalists from my magazine are interviewing people, they need to be aware of the harassment act, and insure that they are sticking to the rules regarding someone's right of privacy. • I will need to make sure I am accurate when producing my magazine for example, making sure I’ve put the correct date on the magazine.
  • 76. Editors Code relating to my magazine. • The content of my magazine is key and must meet with the editors code of practise. This therefore means that I must put the truth, into my magazine spoken by other artists and insure that nothing they has be twisted or changed which could seem like a person(artist) is trying to say something else(Sensationalised). • To make sure that my magazine doesn’t breach any of the ‘Editors codes of Practice’ then I will insure that at the end of production of each magazine, members of my team will proof check each magazine to insure we aren't breaching the ‘Editors’ Code Of Practise’.
  • 77. How to make a complaint- IPSO. Complaints Procedure: 1. Initial Assessment: The complaint is received and then finalised whether it falls into the complaints category and breaches the editors code. If this doesn’t happen then this means that they will write back and explain why it did not fall into the category. 2. Referral to the Publication: If the complaint does breach the editors code or one of the category's within the code. The editor will look at the complaint and if it isn't dealt with within 28 days they will provide informal guidance on the complaints process and how to do it. 3. The Investigation: If the complaint is not resolved, then the complaints committee will write to the editor of the publication to request them to look at the complaint. 4. Adjudication by the complaints committee: If the complaint, still feels that the situation should be resolved, then the complaint committee will decide whether there has been a breach of the editors code. 5. Remedies: If the complaints committee determines that the code has been breached, it can require the publication of its upheld and/or correction. 6. Review of the process- if your complaint proceeds through the steps 2 through to step 5 by you are happy with the process in which the decision of the Complaints Committee was made, you may request a review by the Complaints Reviewer.
  • 78. Press Complaints Commission. Privacy- For the magazine front cover and double page spread, I will have to gain some sort of permission from the subject I am taking a photo off. This needs to be done so that I am not breaching the editors code of practice, I have contacted the subject, via email requesting whether he gives his consent for me to photograph him, and for the images to be used in the magazine. The Sun breached the Editors’ Code by publishing a “significantly misleading” front page headlined “1 in 5 Brit Muslims’ sympathy for jihadis”. The paper was ordered to publish a critical adjudication by the Independent Press Standards Organisation no further back than page five.A Times story headlined “One in five British Muslims has sympathy for Isis" was also found to be inaccurate. But no further action was ordered against The Times because it had already published a correction.
  • 79. Misrepresentation of Black Women. • In the media there was a misrepresentation of a cover for the brand L’Oreal by this the singer Beyoncé, photo was edited for the brand to make her skin tone seem a lot lighter than it actually is. This is form of misrepresentation of the person on the cover, as the brand are somewhat trying to show Beyoncé differently. • The brand may have decided to represent Beyoncé of a lighter skin tone, as the brand L’Oreal doesn't’t feature a lot of women with a different ethnic background. • When it comes to IPSO Complaints System this would come under ‘misleading’ and ‘Discrimination'. This is because the brand is discriminating against women of a color as they are perceiving their brand, to be a brand which only photographs women of a lighter skin tone. https://thatgrapejuice.wordpress.com/categor y/beyonce/page/12/ Despite the controversy that has ensued regarding Beyoncé's unrecognizable ad for L’Oréal, the French cosmetics giant have denied altering the shot: “We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin- tone in the campaign for Feria’s hair color.”
  • 80. Complaint Case Study. Here is a recent complaint from the music magazine NME,when someone complained about a inaccurate article which was considered misleading and a breach of the code “Accuracy". The article was reported on Paul McCartney singing event at HMV, which the complainant attend. The complainant disputed the claim that five hundred copies of the singers newly-released album had been signed at the event. In this case the Press Complaints Commission resolved this case.
  • 81. Conclusion. • The purpose of this learning outcome is that, I needed to access the risks and hazards when producing my magazine, as well as the legal and ethical issues, which I may come across when my magazine is being published. • Firstly, I looked at the risk assessment when taking the photographs for my magazine, as there were some penitential risks I decided create a ‘location recce’ this allowed me to identify the possible risks and hazards near me when taking my images, I did this so I knew what the risks were and so that they don’t cause harm to anyone involved in taking the pictures. • In then created two image plans which allowed me to know how I was going to take my images ect. This included things like date, permission needed ad the potential hazards. I also created another image plan although this included things like equipment, location and the purpose of the shot type and the location. • After this I created an email, asking for the subjects consent to take photos of him as I would of needed to require permission from him. I also created a consent form, for more evidence.
  • 82. Conclusion Continued. • Following on in this learning outcome, I also analyzed some of the areas in which would come under the ‘Code of Practice’ for IPOS complaints. I analyzed a number of case studies in the media, and analyzed why they come under the editors code of practice.

  • 86. Test Photography. For my photo-shoot, I decided to plan my for my images so I knew exactly what I was going to do. I choose to photograph both females and males, I did this so at the end I could decide which photo I liked best, and which fitted my genre of music, and the artist I was going to interview. So.. Finally I decided to use the photo of the two males, as they look similar, to the artist I am interviewing as well as their style was up to date, and fitted in with the whole image of what R&B and Rap is all about. Although, when looking at my magazine of inspiration, I preferred how that looked when it just had one person on the cover, I felt that my magazine would look better with just one person as then they are the main focus of my magazine
  • 87. Test Photography. Model Requirements: • At first, I decided to have two female models, on my front cover and DPS as they were very similar looking to Arianna Grande and Beyoncé, although I decided to change this as I wanted my star artist to appeal to both genders, and I felt that having too females on my front cover would only really appeal to the female audience and not the male. • So then I decided to use to males for my front cover and have them modelling as the artists/rappers “Krept and Konan” as both female and male like these artists, although when it came to creating my front cover and DPS I didn’t like the way the image looked with two people in the image, so then finally I decided to change my image to just one person and using the “Krept” interview, I prefer having just the one person on my front cover and DPS, as It draws the reader in and keeps the focus on the image.
  • 88. Test Photography-Front Cover. Here is my test photographs for my front cover, I decided to go with the single image of the person I took the photo of as, I think the image of just the one person, best appeals to my target audience and best stereotypically fits in with my music genre. I also decided to change my front cover from, female to male as again this best fits with the genre of music my magazine will be. I also decided to keep just one person in the photo as I thought my magazine looked more professional with a close up shot of one person. I also decided to take photos of a range of different people with different styles, so that I knew what type of style each person had and whether it fitted in with my music genre, I final Idea was the image of just one male.
  • 89. Test Photography-DPS. Here I have taken some test photographs for my DPS, I decided to take photos of both males and females, in the end I decided that my DPS would look a lot better with just a male on the front, and I also decided to just have one male instead of two as I wanted the attention just on the one person. Just like my front cover. I also decided to change up the types of camera angles I used, in order to find the best angle for my magazine. I also decided to take a number of images, with both genders and different styles I did this so that I could get an idea of which people would look best on my magazine as well as which best fit my target audience, and which best fit the genre of music my magazine will be focused at.
  • 91. Pre-Production Material. Here are my 2nd magazine idea house colors, in the end I decided not to pick these colors for my magazine, as I felt that they didn't’t fit in with the genre of music I decided to go with, as I felt that these colors were too ‘calm’ and ‘simple’. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. The colour blue is often associated with depth and stability. http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color- meaning.html http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color- meaning.html
  • 92. Graphic Layout-FRONT COVER-”Simply Sound”. Firstly, the main Image of my magazine, I have chose to use my main image covering the whole of the magazine cover, The reason why I have done this is to convey what my magazine is about and what type of genre my magazine is.As well as this having the main artist covering the whole page, would also draw the reader into to reading the magazine as if the star artist appeals to them. Price, I have decided to price my magazine at £3.25 as this is a affordable price for the age group my magazine fits into.
  • 93. Graphic Layout-DPS-Final Idea-Pre-production materials. Double page spread- I have decided to place everything on my double page spread like this as I feel it will draw the reader into reading the page, I have also decided to have my image on one side of the page, as readers will be more interested in reading my interview as my target audience are young they would’t want to read a lot of writing.. I have also decided to do this as it makes my content consistent throughout my magazine and means therefore this has an impact on the reader as they will remember my logo and hopefully they will begin to buy my magazine more frequently.
  • 94. Pre-production Materials-DPS Graphic Layouts. Double page spread-I have decided to place everything on my double page spread like this as I feel it will draw the reader into reading the page, I have also decided to have my image on one side of the page, as readers will be more interested in reading my interview as my target audience are young they would’t want to read a lot of writing.. • 95. Pre-Production Materials. Test 1- Test 2- Test 3- Test 4- Reason - When creating my magazine I want to make sure that my magazine masthead is eye-catching to the reader, I have come up with a name for my magazine ‘Simply Sound’ the reason for choosing this particular name I decided to reflect my masthead on my logo, by this it is going to be simple but eye-catching. I used different effects including stroke, bevel and emboss.1st Idea 2nd Idea Final Idea
  • 96. Fonts. • I used the www.dafonts.com as they had a huge variety of different fonts which I could use in my website. I was inspired from the font ‘SF Collogate’ for my magazine as the font big and thick which would stand out as a masthead. I also used font from the website which I used for the strapline as I though it also fitted with my magazine style. • This font is free for personal use so I am able to use it although if I was to profit from the magazine, I would have to contact the author of the font.
  • 97. Copyright-DaFont.com • There are specific rules put in place for certain fonts on da font, if the font has been created by a specific person and they wish to put in place a copyright rule then they can. • For example: Here is an example of someone downloading a particular font on Dafont.com, and they have been told to contact the people who designed that particular font, to email them. ==-=--=----=--------=----------------=----------------=--------=----=--=-== You've just downloaded a T Y P E A R O U N D F O N T ! • 98. Step By Step-Creating My Front Cover. • Firstly, I created my front cover by using a template by creating one by file, new and using the international option which then gave me a blank page, secondly I dragged the ruler tool option down and created an brief outline of where I was going to place each convention of my magazine. Then after this I changed the color of my background to my house colors(which is grey), I then after this used the gradient affect so the background wans’t as harsh. • Next, I placed my logo which I had already created before, and made sure that the blue ruler lines where inside the logo and the side of the logo weren't going beyond the blue lines. I then began to insert two shapes one for my strapline and one for my puff promotion, and made sure that each time I added something in I named each layer. • After this I included texted, by using the pen tool to create a box, which meant when typing my text wouldn't’t go outside that box, and that when placing any images in that the text goes around the image nicely. After this I went onto a different document and opened up my front cover image, and began to use the quick selection tool to remove the background, after this I placed this image on to my front cover making sure I moved the image layer above my background layer in order for it to sit in front of the background and show up. Once I had positioned my image in correctly and balanced it out on the page, I used the bending tool on the image and blended the edges of the image so that it merges in with the background, and doesn't’t look like I have just placed the image in. • After this, I typed in some of my cover stories and made sure I labeled each layer corresponding to what each cover story was called, once I had done this is corrected the font style to how I wanted it and made sure that each word/phrase was in alignment with each other and that they were all the same size.
  • 99. Step by step-Creating My Front Cover. • As well as this I then began to create my barcode, I did this by created a white shape in order to back/board my barcode, after this is in ported a picture of a barcode that I had previously found, and inserted in a re- shaped it to size making sure that I held down shift and re-sized my image I did this so that I didn't’t pixilate the image. After getting my image of the barcode to the size that I wanted, I used the text tool, and just underneath the barcode, I typed out the following “issue 1, DATE and PRICE”. I then re- sized, and highlighted the text and used the arrows on the keyboard, and moved the text so that it was more in the middle of the barcode. • After this is imported images such as Facebook logo and twitter as well as my logo I then used the ruler tool to make sure that when positioning my smaller images for my barcode that they were all in-line with each other and as well as this they were all the same size, and weren't too big.
  • 100. Step by Step-Creating My Front Cover. • After this I began to create my ‘puff promotion’ I did this by using the shape tool and picked the shape which looked like this the reason for this is I wanted to make sure that it stood out against my main image and doesn't’t get lost between all my other features. • Once I had created the shape that I wanted for my puff promotion, I used the filters on that shape and began to sharpen the shape even more so it would pop against the dark background, I then clicked on the text tool and filled in my puff promotion reading ‘ win a free iTunes voucher'. While doing this I made sure that I was labeling/renaming my layers. • When it comes to the main image, I have already sized the image to the correct size as well as this I have used to quick easer tool to get rid of the background, so now I have a cropped image, I then again clicked on filters and sharped it, as well as using the blending tool to blend the edges. Final product
  • 101. Step by Step-Creating my front cover. • Next, I began to look at my magazine of inspiration and used the shape tool to create rectangle boxes, I made sure the all the boxes were in line with each other using the ruler tool, after this Is type into each box artists and groups. Then I began to play around with the colour of the fronts, and decided to go with a black box and white text. • After this is began to perfect my main image, blurring out any imperfections.
  • 102. Step by Step-Double Page Spread. • Firstly, I started off with a blank template for my DPS, I then began to insert the ruler lines, using the ruler tool (ctrl r), I did this as it was copying the lay out from one of my ‘Q music magazines’ and new exactly where I was going to place everything. Starting of with my background, I went onto Google images and found a grey brick wall background, then inserted this onto my background only covering half the background as well as holding down shift while re-sizing so that the image didn’t pixelate. The on a separate document I insert the main image I was going to use and then using the quick selection tool and went around the two people in my image getting rid of the background, after I did the I dragged the image into my magazine and re-sized according to the size of the page, after this I went onto blending options and made sure all the edges of the image weren't harsh and blended well against the brick wall.
  • 103. Step By Step- Double Page Spread. • After this using the shape too I inserted a rectangle at the top of my page and filled it in with grey to match my house styles using the paint bucket tool. After this using the text tool I inserted all the text that I wanted making sure that the text layer was above the shape layer in order for it to show up. Then I began to adjust the colours of the text to fit my house styles as well playing around with the font. When inserting the text I used the ruler tool to make sure that everything was inline. • After this I began to move the ruler tools that I used for a guide and then started to insert my interview I had already pre-made but I began to use the text tool and by doing this it makes sure that my text goes around my images on the page as well as making sure the text doesn’t over lap with the images, once I didn’t this in double checked any spelling or punctuation errors before putting my interview into the magazine.
  • 104. Step By Step-Double Page Spread. • Next, I highlighted all the questions in bold, and then inserted a quote for affect. After this at the bottom of the page I added another text box and inserted a web link, and then added both page numbers.
  • 105. Cross Convergence Media. • Cross Convergence media is how production companies use a variety of media’s to display their product. • Magazine companies own a print version, a website and a Facebook page. • Within my magazine I will be using hashtags, to link to to my magazines Twitter page, I will also being having hashtags and as wells other tags to link to our Facebook page.
  • 106. Social Media for my Magazine.
  • 107. Final Outcome-Magazine Front Cover and Double Page Spread.
  • 108. Post-Production Publishing Tools. • When producing my magazine Front Cover and Double-Page Spread. I used a number of tools on Abobe Photoshop, to create my magazine cover. This is the Paint Bucket Tool- I used this to fill in large areas of color, I also used the gradient tool which works with the paint bucket tool, I did this to create a gradient affect for my background. This is the quick selection tool- This allows me to click a part of the background quickly, and able to delete it quickly. This is the pen tool- This allowed me to use this to create boxes where my text was meat to go, I did this by using the ruler tool markings as a guide were I was going to put my text, I did this so that my photos didn’t over lap with my text. I used CTRL R- The reason for this is for the ruler tool, this is because I used the blue ruler lines as a guide to insure all my conventions like my social media logos were in line and straight.
  • 109. Post-Production-Publishing Tools. Shift tool- I used shift when resizing my images I did this because when sizing my images, if I didn’t hold down shift, then this would mean that my images would become blurry. The gradient tool- This allowed me to, edit my background from one block colour to a gradient affect. Text tools- I used all these texted tools, such as typing text, adjusting the height and width of the text depending on the size of the page. I could change the opacity of the text.
  • 110. Conclusion. • In this learning outcome, I focused on explaining how I began to produce my magazine, and what I did to create the final product. I did this by creating a step by step of how I produced my magazine front cover, and double page spread. I also did this by creating a mood board with images of artists my magazine relates to or that I will be featuring in it., this illustrates several features in the magazine, such as colours, target audience and music genre. This is the main inspiration for the magazine. • I also explained the post productions tools I used on adobe Photoshop, in order to create my magazine. • When it came to the production process, I wanted to edit my images so they looked professional when I did this I then created an image plan, in the image plan I also included test photography, I did this so I could get an idea of what shot type looked best and what type of lighting would look best, this was an act of trial and error to see which photo was of a high quality.
  • 111.
  • 112. Deadlines. • It was important that I put in place deadlines to ensure that the production of my magazine runs smoothly, and that my magazine is produced to a high quality and professional standard. • I put in place a production plan which consisted of a 3 week plan to come up with ideas, finalize ideas and produce the magazine and get it distributed out to the public. • I can say that I have stuck to this plan, as my magazine will be released on its release date,(1st November 2015) and that all the pages have been produced and that I have include every feature needed to insure my magazine is off a professional standard. • As you can see from the second screenshot, this is all the deadlines for each unit 14, in which we have to stick by, throughout each learning outcome I have managed to stick to the right deadline ensuring I’m still on track.
  • 113. Post Production Skills. • To create my magazine front cover and double page spread, I used the software Photoshop C55.1 to do this., I chose to use this software over any other as this was the software which allowed me to create features which looked professional. Some of the main features I used were the pen tool, quick selection tool, the ruler tool, eraser, text, and the gradient tool. I used the pen tool, and the ruler tool, to create even, and in-line boxes which allowed me to type texted into, I used the pen tool to insure that none of my text would be overlapping my images, by doing this it insured that my text went around my images.
  • 114. Safe Working Practices. • I found that it is always best to cropping out my background, when editing my magazine or locking my background, and ensuring I use a professional background. It is also important that I used the pen tool by using the ‘pen tool’ (P) it is important because my magazine pages will look the same, and will look neat when going through my magazine, therefore having the text/interview going around any images will give it a professional look as well as it will look appealing to the reader., and that it is important that everything is in line with each other, and look aesthetically pleasing to the eye and not may people would pick up a magazine if it looks messy. • Another good example of an important tool would be the ‘eye dropper tool’ I used this to make sure all my house colors are the same. To make my magazine look professional I used this tool in order to get the exact color as I used before. • Another factor which I used a lot was the when resizing an image I insured that I held down the shift key I did this to ensure none of my images went blurry or pixelated. • As well as insuring I was saving my work regularly so I didn’t loose anything.
  • 116. • 117. Proof Reading and Sub-Editing. • On my double page spread I made sure that I proof read all my work, in case that anything was spelt wrong, or didn’t make sense. • I made sure that this was all correct by first typing up, my interview into a Word Document which allowed me to see any incorrect spellings, as well as anything which didn't’t make sense , I decided to edit any spelling mistakes or grammar in a word document as it was a lot easier for me to edit the interview and change it. • Here is evidence, of on a Word Document it has picked up words which may be spelt incorrectly, or any phrases which may not make sense.
  • 118. Proof Reading and Sub-Editing. Here is evidence of a screenshot that I have proof read my work on, a Word Document, gone through it and checked for any spelling or grammar mistakes, as you can see I have edited and, corrected incorrect words or phrases using the spell check tool on Word. I did this to insure that everything was spelt correctly before transferring it over to my double page spread, doing this is key as it means I wont be wasting time having to change my double page spread because words and phrases were spelt in correctly. This is also key as I want to make my magazine look as professional as I can, and spelling or grammar mistakes wont make it look professional. Before After
  • 119. Proof Reading Continued. Here I have given evidence of screenshots from where I have proof read my magazine interview. After checking the spelling, punctuation and grammar (thereby taking on the role of a sub-editor), I then went onto ‘Window’ then ‘Paragraph’ to remove ‘Hyphenate’ in order to ensure that the text is presented on the correct line.
  • 120. House Colour. • When it came to my house colours, of my magazines, I wanted to insure that I would targeting both genders when it came to the colours I used. Therefore, this is why I decided to use the colours grey and yellow, with black text and certain conventions in red in order to stand out, and catch the readers eye. • I decided with Red, and yellow as they are bold colors which means they are going to stand out against the black and grey colors in my magazine. • I also decided to keep the red theme in, from my magazine of inspiration although, I would only use it for conventions such as the puff promotion, headings so that they will stand out. • Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity.
  • 121. Colour Here is evidence of where I have tested different colours, for my magazine front cover. I did this so that I was aiming the colours I decided to go with at both target audiences. Here is also evidence of me using the eye dropper tool, to save previous colours I have used so that I am able to come back and use them again this ensures that all the colours are same shade so that my magazine looks of a high quality. Colour Change.
  • 122. Changes Made- Front cover. I decided to change the background, as I thought it was too dark and I felt that it didn't’t resemble the type of music I would be featuring (dark- connotes to rock/metal music). I change the background to a light grey as this made the artist on the front stand out. I also then decided to change the images, as it didn't’t look of a high quality, therefore this meant that it didn't’t look as professional. I decided to stick to having one person on the cover of my magazine, as this meant all the focus would be on them, and also meant that when it comes to editing the image, I would be able to spend a lot of time editing just the one image. As well as this is began to change some of the features on my magazine like, the text down the side of the page, by editing the fonts, and colors of the text and any text boxes.
