In the green heart of Italy (Umbria) there is the Smallest Theater in the World, because of all its typical elements of a nineteenth-century Goldoni Theater, each of them in the smallest shape existent. You can come and visit it with a local guide... it is very emotional, as attending performances. This Theater could welcome your business events, your civil marriage or a special personal event!

1. Teatro della Concordia: the Smallest Theater in the world
With only 99 seats, shared
between its boxes and stalls, it
was finished in 1808, under the
Napoleonic occupation, and
was initiated by nine local
families.
In the second half of the 19th
century it was decorated by
Cesare Agretti and in 1892 by
his son Luigi, only 14 at the
time, who painted the ceiling
and the vaults, the boxes and
the meeting room.

2. After its construction Monte
Castello di Vibio became a
capital of a large territory and
enjoyed a particularly vibrant
period thanks to the ideals of
brotherhood and equality
introduced by the new
French administration.
The original building has
been restored several times.
The latest works, after a period of neglect during the 50’s and 60’s, were finished
at the beginning of the 90’s.
From 1993 the Smallest Theater is managed by Teatro della Concordia Society
(APS), which takes care its promotion, development and management.
The interior of the theatre is made entirely out of wood in the “Goldoniano” style
and represents a rare example of its kind, offering a harmonious and well thought
out use of space for scenery, for the actors and the audience.

3. Why… the Smallest Theater in the world?
It is the faithful and successful reproduction in miniature of the great Italian
and European theaters, with:
the bell-shaped or "Italian" (also called Goldoni),
the entire realization of wood,
the typical proscenium,
the fresco decorations that affect the entire exposed surface including the
ceiling,
the presence of the frescoed foyer,
the coffee theater,
the dressing rooms,
the trellis,
the meeting hall,
the elegant main staircase outside,
the lobby and the ticket office,
the stairway leading to the two tiers of boxes and a secondary staircase.
The Teatro della Concordia shows all the elements of a bell-shaped
theater, each one of them in the smallest size existent.

introduce you to the theater in miniature, and will tell you about facts and
fascinating events that have made its history.
The “Teatro della Concordia” is open on Saturdays, Sundays and during
public holidays:
- From September to March: 10.00/12.30 and 15.30/18.30
- From April to August: 10.00/12.30 and 16.00/19.00
It also remains open every day during July and August, from 25th
December to 6th January.

Concordia Teatern i Monte Castello di Vibio

Introduktion:
I Umbrien har man arbetat med projektet för att återställa de historiska
teatrarna med hjälp av pengar från FIO (fond för investering och
sysselsättning) år 1984. Bland dessa omfattas Concordia Teatern (1808) i
Monte Castello di Vibio. Man kan läsa i en skrift från tiden att ”den byggdes
liten i enlighet med byns storlek men bildning mätes varken i kubik eller
kvadratmeter.
Stärkta av detta så antog Castello di Vibio och sällskapet Concordia
Teatern som hade fått uppgiften att hantera det hela, mottot att ha ”den
minsta teatern i världen” väl vetandes att kultur inte mäts i meter och att
detta mantra inte är skäl för stolthet i sig. Däremot är det ett skäl till stolthet
för invånarna i Monte Castello att besitta ett ovärderligt artistiskt och
arkitektoniskt kulturarv.

18. Italienska postens frimärke:
Det var den första historiska teatern av dem som restaurerats och
återöppnats för publik i Umbrien som fick åtnjuta en sådan viktig hyllning från
det italienska postverket. Man kan utan tvivel antaga att händelsen inte bara
är av betydelse för Monte Castello di Vibio utan för hela Umbrien, en av de få
italienska regioner som har rätt att vara stolta över att ha återerövrat
historiska teatrar och har försett invånarna med ett unikt kulturarv.
Republikens president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi skickade följande
invigningshälsning: ”utfärdandet utav ett hyllningsfrimärke har med rätta och
med stolthet givits till Concordia Teatern i Monte Castello di Vibio som för
framåt italiensk representativ och traditionell scenkonst.
Teatern är ett litet smycke i en liten kommun och har byggts efter mått på byn
som hyser den. Dess restaurering vittnar om omsorg och vördnad för den
italienska identiteten. Renovering utav denna institution som mötesplats
värdesätter minnet utav det förflutna och återknyter med dagens kultur. ”Med
detta så vill jag uttrycka min uppskattning till organisatörerna av denna fest
och skickar alla närvarande en hjärtlig hälsning”.

19. Historia
I hjärtat utav landet själv format som ett hjärta ligger Monte Castello di
Vibio (i provinsen Perugia i Umbrien). På toppen utav en kulle på 422
meters höjd befinner sig denna ovärderliga byggnad: ett unikt smycke
”världens minsta teater”. 99 platser för att drömma! Dessa är fördelade
mellan balkong och parkett. Concordia teatern skapades i andan efter
franska revolutionen och i det samförstånd mellan människor som rådde i
Europa i början utav artonhundratalet. Det var då nio berömda
borgarfamiljer bestämde sig för att skapa en plats för nöjen och
sammankomster och litterära salonger i Monte Castello di Vibio.
Invigningen ägde rum 1808, en period utav kulturell blomstring nästan så
man skulle önska sig tillbaka till den perioden. Det var Monte Castellos
”fina vardagsrum”. Teatern gjordes liten efter sin bys mått men, skrev dom,
civilisationen mäts inte i kubik och kvadratmeter. Den gjordes efter de nio
familjernas behov. Den beställdes utav en mästerlig snickare som byggde
dom två raderna på balkongerna så att platserna var fördelade runt nio
pelare men ingen utav ägarna hade en reserverad plats utan i sann
samförståndsanda så bestämdes det att man skulle byta plats varje månad
så att alla skulle kunna få möjlighet att sitta i mitten.
Balkongerna är helt byggda i trä vilket skapar en utmärkt akustik, så fin att
man till och med idag utnyttjar den för att spela in musik.

20. 1827 så grundade ägarna Medlemsakademin för ConcordiaTeatern.
1850 kom Cesare Agretti, en konstnär från Perugia, som tyckte om att
vistas på orten. Han skapade de första målningarna på balkongernas
framsidor. I centrum så målade han händer som sträckte sig i samförstånd
och han utförde och gav till teatern målningen som skildrar panoramat från
Monte Castello di Vibio under den perioden.
Cesare lämnade Umbrien för att leva i La Spezia i Ligurien men han behöll
tät kontakt med ägarna till teatern och när han 1892 fick veta att teatern för
första gången skulle renoveras så skickade han sin son Luigi som var
knappt 14 år gammal att måla fresker i taket. Luigi målade två halvmånar
vid sidan utav scenen och även målningar i foyern. Luigi Agretti ”ynglingen
från Thyrenska havet” som han kallades i en dikt som blivit tillägnad honom
på grund av hans fresker, har lämnat färgstarka målningar som bevis på
sin brådmogna vitalitet. I foyens medeltida trappa skriver han ”Var hälsad
vår fina kulle vårt fädernesland”.

21. Under 30 och 40 talet så förekom en del lokal amatörteater. Musik o sång
från Monte Castello di Vibio med passionerat deltagande av folk från
bygden. 1945 var en annan stor händelse för Concordia Teatern då den
då mycket unga Gina Lollobrigida spelade Corinna i Santarellina av
Eduardo Scarpetta. 1951 stängdes teatern på grund av problem. Först
1981 gav kommunen klartecken till restaurering financierad utav EU. 1993
efter sju års arbete ”under ledning utav arkitekterna Paolo Leonelli och
Maurio Struzzi” så avslutades restaureringsarbetena och orginalstrukturen
behölls. I själva verket visade det sig att denna höll för alla säkerhetskrav.
Sålunda kunde man bevara med stor respekt denna 17 hundratals
arkitektur.
