8. LITERATURE REVIEW
Quality Assurance (QA) refers to the process used to create the deliverables, and can be
performed by a manager, client, or even a third-party reviewer. Examples of quality
assurance include process checklists, project audits and methodology and standards
development.
Quality assurance activities are determined before production work begins and these activities
are performed while the product is being developed. In contrast, Quality control activities are
performed after the product is developed.
Quality Control (QC) refers to quality related activities associated with the creation of project
deliverables. Quality control is used to verify that deliverables are of acceptable quality and
that they are complete and correct. Examples of quality control activities include inspection,
deliverable peer reviews and the testing process.
Quality control is about adherence to requirements. Quality assurance is generic and does not
concern the specific requirements of the product being developed.
9. STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
Strong financial back up
Qualified staff.
Providing our costumers what they want.
Targeting both urban and rural markets.
Eco friendly herbal product.
Use of natural fluoride in place of fluoride

Due to high price of the product it may be
unaffordable for people of rural areas to pay
for the product.
Ayurvedic product.
Giant competitors in the market like

in the market.
SWOT ANALYSIS
10. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
High investment and growth.
Growth will occur because of eco friendly
toothpaste.
As it is a daily usable commodity so
company is using intensive distribution
technology So that it will available at every
shop due to which sales of company's product
will be increased day by day.
As the world is becoming a global village so
company had also opportunities to grow
globally.
As the company is entering into new
market and launching a new product so there
is always chances of failure of the product.
Company have to face a lots and lots of
competition from the competitors already
present the market.
It is an Ayurvedic product and there are so
many international companies present in the
market so it is threat for the company.
11. OBJECTIVE
“To observe how to manage and test various samples through various
instruments in the labs”.
“Analyse the quality of the product in the company”.
In the mean while of the lab working my knowledge about labs and its
working process, communication and managing skills are increased.
12. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This study is basically based on lab working and testing process of various
herbal product or herbs samples.
My research is done with the help of primary data which I collected from one
to one interaction with these labs. In this process I learned that how sample
can be tested , managed and recorded.
And also I know how various code are given to samples and making their
final COA(Certificate of Analysis).
13. Cont.
Area Covered:
QA/QC labs of Himalaya drug company, Dehradun.
Research Tool:
One to One Observation of various lab and their working through various
instruments.
14. DATA ANALYsis
In the labs of QA/QC samples can be analyzed through various parameters. These parameters
are as follows:-
ANALITICAL LAB RESULTS PARAMETERS:
Description:-
Colour
Odour
Taste
Foreign Organic Matter
Ethanol Soluble Extractive Value
Ash Value
Acid Insoluble Ash
Loss on Drying
On the basis of these parameters samples are tested in a Analytical Lab and figure out the
correct results of the samples.
15. Cont.
MICROBIOLOGY LAB RESULT PARAMETER:
There are following microbiology lab result parameters which are as follows:-
Herbs leaves Powder
Total Aerobic Microbial Count (TAMC)
Total Yeast & Moulds Count (TYMC)
Pathogens
E. coli
Salmonella special
Pseudomonas Aenefinusa
Staphylococcus Aurous
16. CONCLUSION
The conclusion of the project is to study the “management of samples and testing of samples by various
instruments in the labs of QA/QC department of the Himalaya Drug Company, Dehradun”.
In Analytical lab we study how samples can be analyzed and tested by various chemicals and
instruments. Once the test is passed then it will goes to instrumental lab 1(AAS).
In instrument lab 1(Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer) in this lab heavy metals and toxic metal can
be analyzed and their concentration in PPB (Parts per Billion), volume, duration time, RSD (Revised
Standard Deviation).
In this absorption wave length (As-193.7nm, Cd-228.8nm, Hg-253.7nm, Pb-283.3nm, Cu-324.8nm).
In another instrument lab 2 (High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography) same sample can be
analyzed. This lab is also known as finger printing lab. In this lab samples photo is taken on various
UV light like: 254nm, 366nm and white light.
After these two lab has analyzed the sample the sample finally goes to microbiology lab where fungus
and bacteria can be analyzed in samples and try to remove that bacteria and fungus.
17. SUGGESTIONS
The overall experience in THE HIMALAYA DRUG COMPANY,
DEHRADUN is excellent but somehow I feel that company need some
improvement in various places in QA/QC department for better results .
The first thing that I observe in the labs is that the instrument which is used
to analyze the samples are old. Now a days there are much better and
improved technology and instruments are coming in the market. If company
give preference to that instruments and technology then company provide
better results and make healthy profit in the market.
Second thing I suggest that company has only two plants in India first in
Dehradun and second is in Bangalore. Company must need more units in
India to increase their production and make more products at a same time.
18. LIMITATIONS
Area Limitation:-
My area is limited in the labs of QA/QC department. I didn’t visit the
production department of the company for collecting the more data. So its also
one of the disadvantage for me.
Sample Size:-
There are lots of samples in bulk quantity. So the sample size is very big.
