original CCNA focus; other types of CCNA focus on security, cloud,
collaboration, security operations, design, data center technologies,
industrial plants, service providers, and wireless.
4
CCNA CERTIFICATION
 The 200-125 CCNA is the composite exam associated
with the Cisco Certified Network Associate (Routing &
Switching) certification.
 This exam tests a candidate's knowledge and skills
required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to
medium size enterprise branch network.
5
CCNA Main Topics
 network types; Routing and switching fundamentals
 LAN & WAN connectivity; LAN & WAN technologies
 the TCP/IP and OSI models; Network Medium
 IP addressing; Operating and configuring IOS devices
 determining IP routes; Managing IP traffic with access lists
 extending switched networks with VLANs; establishing Frame Relay connections

WHY NETWORK?
To Share Resources e.g. Share Printer,Share Information i.e.

26
BENEFITS & DRAWBACKS
27
Reduce overall cost
Improve Performance

LECTURE 2:
Network Fundamentals
28
NETWOR TYPES
29
Geographically Network is divided into two main types
1- Local Area Network (LAN) 2- Wide Area Network (WAN)
Local Area Network (LAN)
Local Area Network
A network with-in a small House, Office
or Campus without using any Public
Infrastructure is called Local Area Network.
 It is also called Private-Network
 It is a low cast network
 It is a high speed network
 Normally considered Layer-2 Network
30
Wide Area Network (WAN)
Wide Area Network
A large organizational Network which has no limits
Built using public infrastructure is called
Wide Area Network
 It is also called Public-Network
 It is a high cost network
 It is a low speed network
 Normally considered Layer-3 Network 31
ETHERNET STANDRED
IEEE 802.3
This is generally a local area network (LAN) technology with some wide
area network (WAN) applications. Developed by Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
 Ethernet = 10Mbps
 Fast Ethernet=100Mbps
 Giga Ethernet=1000Mbps

WHAT HAPPENDS IF SPEED MISMATCH ?
TYPES OF COMUNICATION
Sharing of resources between devices is called Communication.
There are three types of communication
 Unicast (one to one )
 Multicast (grouped)
 Broadcast (one to all)
34
MODES OF COMUNICATION
There are two modes of communication
 Simplex Mode
(Sender sends only, Receiver receives only)
 Half Duplex
(one can send or receive at same time)
 Full Duplex
(one can send & receive at same time)
35
NETWORK TOPOLOGIES
Physical Layout of Network is called Topology
Selection of topology depends on followings
 COST
 PERFORMANCE (CSMA/CD)(BROADCAST)
 RELIABILITY
36
TOPOLOGY TYPES
There are three main types of topologies
 LAN TOPOLOGIES (bus/star/ring/mesh)
 WAN TOPOLOGIES (hub & spoke/mesh)
 WLAN TOPOLOGIES(Infrastructure / Ad-hoc / mesh)
37
BUS TOPOLOGY
A bus topology uses a single
backbone cable
that is terminated at both
ends.
All the hosts connect directly
to this backbone
38
DRAWBACKS OF BUS TOPOLOGY
 Cost= low
 Performance = poor
(single collision & Broadcast domain)
 Reliability= zero
39
RING TOPOLOGY
 Uses a Token to pass information
 Token is attached to the Message by
the sender
 If the Recipient computer identifies
the Token as its own, then it will
process the information.
40
STAR TOPOLOGY (HUB)
 Hub works as a center device
 Single point of failure
 More cable required
 Hub always broadcast
 Hub is the none intelligent device
 Hub share the bandwidth
 Hub offers one collusion domain
 Hub based network are physically star but logically bus 41
STAR TOPOLOGY (SWITCH)
 Most common type today used. All computers
are attached to a switch less collisions & most
efficient
 Every port of the switch is on separate collision
 Switch builds cam table
 Switch broadcast / multicast / unicast
 Switch offers one broadcast domain
 But single point of failure

  • 30. Local Area Network (LAN) Local Area Network A network with-in a small House, Office or Campus without using any Public Infrastructure is called Local Area Network.  It is also called Private-Network  It is a low cast network  It is a high speed network  Normally considered Layer-2 Network 30
  • 31. Wide Area Network (WAN) Wide Area Network A large organizational Network which has no limits Built using public infrastructure is called Wide Area Network  It is also called Public-Network  It is a high cost network  It is a low speed network  Normally considered Layer-3 Network 31
  • 32. ETHERNET STANDRED IEEE 802.3 This is generally a local area network (LAN) technology with some wide area network (WAN) applications. Developed by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).  Ethernet = 10Mbps  Fast Ethernet=100Mbps  Giga Ethernet=1000Mbps 32
  • 34. TYPES OF COMUNICATION Sharing of resources between devices is called Communication. There are three types of communication  Unicast (one to one )  Multicast (grouped)  Broadcast (one to all) 34
  • 35. MODES OF COMUNICATION There are two modes of communication  Simplex Mode (Sender sends only, Receiver receives only)  Half Duplex (one can send or receive at same time)  Full Duplex (one can send & receive at same time) 35
  • 36. NETWORK TOPOLOGIES Physical Layout of Network is called Topology Selection of topology depends on followings  COST  PERFORMANCE (CSMA/CD)(BROADCAST)  RELIABILITY 36
  • 37. TOPOLOGY TYPES There are three main types of topologies  LAN TOPOLOGIES (bus/star/ring/mesh)  WAN TOPOLOGIES (hub & spoke/mesh)  WLAN TOPOLOGIES(Infrastructure / Ad-hoc / mesh) 37
  • 38. BUS TOPOLOGY A bus topology uses a single backbone cable that is terminated at both ends. All the hosts connect directly to this backbone 38
  • 39. DRAWBACKS OF BUS TOPOLOGY  Cost= low  Performance = poor (single collision & Broadcast domain)  Reliability= zero 39
  • 40. RING TOPOLOGY  Uses a Token to pass information  Token is attached to the Message by the sender  If the Recipient computer identifies the Token as its own, then it will process the information. 40
  • 41. STAR TOPOLOGY (HUB)  Hub works as a center device  Single point of failure  More cable required  Hub always broadcast  Hub is the none intelligent device  Hub share the bandwidth  Hub offers one collusion domain  Hub based network are physically star but logically bus 41
  • 42. STAR TOPOLOGY (SWITCH)  Most common type today used. All computers are attached to a switch less collisions & most efficient  Every port of the switch is on separate collision  Switch builds cam table  Switch broadcast / multicast / unicast  Switch offers one broadcast domain  But single point of failure 42
