Survey- Question 3:
What film genres do you
like?
SHANIA STEELE A2 MEDIA FIRST SURVEY RESULTS
Male Answers
Because of the people who skipped the age or gender person, I had to manually deal with the information so I could use the
results that were reliable.
Female Answers
Because of the people who skipped the age or gender person, I had to manually deal with the information so I could use the
results that were reliable.
Males 13-17
From looking at the pie chart below, I can see that the two most popular film genres are comedy and action. If I were to choose
this age group as my target audience, I would be considering action and comedy as my genres.

With only 1 person from this age group answering the survey, we do not have a very good representation of what this age
group prefers. This would suggest to me that I don’t use this age group.

No one from this age group answered the survey. Because of this, it is unlikely this group would be used as a primary target
audience. This is because I have no representation from this age group and because of this, I don’t know what film genres
they like as much as other age groups generally.
From experiencing this, I need to look into how to distribute the surveys better. I need to look into other options to coincide
with the internet copy. This will help me gain more responses.
Male 45-54
This age group was answered fairly well. Comedy and documentary was the most popular genre of film so will consider this
when planning the trailer.

Action, Comedy and Music Documentary were the most popular genre from this age group. If this would be the target audience I
choose, I would consider this age group.
Male 64-74
There were no respondents from this age group.
This highlights to me that I shouldn’t aim my film for this age group as I have no research to go on.

Comedy and family are the most popular film genres from this age group. This group was quite limited in numbers so it would
suggest that I shouldn’t use this as my primary target audience.
I could mix two similar age groups together to create stronger research.

Only one person from this age group answered this which means that the results are not accurate from the age group
as a whole. It would make sense that I do not use this group as my target audience as I do not have good quantity
results to accurately know what genre of film they like.
This shows the comparisons between the genders in general. As there were more females who took part in the survey than
males, the female bars will be higher. This does give an indication into what genres would suit one or both genders the most.
Concluding statements
I can take a lot from creating this survey. Firstly to solve the skipped questions problem, I need
to make sure when initially creating the survey that I make sure that no questions can be
skipped. This ensures that all the results collected are eligible to be used.
Secondly, I need to distribute my survey better in order to get more respondents. With me only
using social media to distribute my survey, it limits the number of people able to complete the
survey as not everyone has social media accounts. This is probably the reason why people of
certain age groups didn’t complete the survey.
I should have got more respondents from each of the categories. This could either be resolved
by broadening the age groups to gain more of a general look at the genders and have more
respondents or using different methods of distributing the survey such as by handing out paper
copies
