thoughts, emotions, needs, preferences, or beliefs, processes captured by
the injunction to know oneself” and behaving in accordance with the true
self (Harter, 2002, p. 382).

12. Welcome to the Art of Authentic Leadership
Welcome to the Art of Authentic Leadership
The Art of Authentic Leadership Training Manual provides a basis to explore how personal
experiences shape the way you serve others and own your passage of leadership –
authentic leadership. Every person has a story, a story to be told, and a story to be
accepted.
In Authentic Leadership, autonomy is being who you are at all times in every situation;
whether people stand with you or having to stand alone.
Your story reflects the person you see in the mirror as you pursue leadership with
confidence in an ever changing global society.
You are aware of your strengths and areas of improvement to lead in the most effective
manner possible. A leader’s sense of who they are does not depend on
membership, work roles, or other social indicators of identity (Zaleznik, 2010).
Whether in formal or informal settings all of you are leaders…leaders who are passionate
and led by the merits of the heart.

Working with our restrictive beliefs permits us to host a level of mindfulness in
ourselves to make the connection.

Time Management
Authentic Leaders are genuine in the way they prioritize their time without
over committing to personal or professional projects. Authentic leaders
understand the need to carefully devise a plan that reflects a
manageable schedule. Authentic leaders devote their time to projects
that have potential to sustain in consideration of identifying when there is
a need to take a break.
