Q3. What have you learned
from your audience feedback?
Evaluation
Once I choose my song for my music video, I constructed a survey in order to
hear other people’s views on the song and what they think should be included
in my music video.
Looking at this question on the right, I
found out that most people thought that
this song would look best in black and
white rather than colour. I personally
thought that it would look better in
colour so that I would be able to convey
more feelings and emotions with this use
of colour. So as a compromise I created
my music video using minimal colour and
in some sections had a dominance of the
colour grey to see what effect this had on
my music video. I think that this turned
out very well because my use of editing
alongside the colour scheme makes these
shots much more effective and dramatic.
Therefore this question was very useful
because it helped improve my music
video.
From this question I found out that most
people thought that I should have between 3
and 4 locations in my music video. Therefore,
I took these results and decided to use four
locations for my music video as myself and
others agreed that this would be a suitable
amount of locations. The four locations that I
used were: the main room for my actor, the
main room for my actress, under a bridge
(sledgehammer scene) and against a yellow
wall for my fade overs. Although, when it
came to editing my fade overs I realised that I
was unable to do this against a yellow
background, it had to be against a green
screen so I had to edit this part out and not
include the fade overs. This question was
useful for me as it gave me a clear answer as
to how many locations I need to include.
Looking at this question most people told me
that I should have either 1 or 2 costume
changes in my music video. I followed this by
giving my actress one outfit and my actor two.
The reason why my actor had two costume
changes rather than one like my actress is
because my actor was included in two very
different locations so it seemed like a good
idea to change costumes for both locations to
make it clearer to the audience, the change in
locations. This also adds more detail to my
music video and makes it more interesting as I
think it would be quite boring if there were no
costume changes.This shows that the
audience feedback that I received for this
question was very helpful because it made my
music video more interesting, yet it kept it
easier for me to access different costumes as I
didn’t have to get as many.
For this question I asked whether it would be better to
film my music video in high-key or low-key lighting or
both, the results that I got back showed that most
people would prefer both. I listened to this advice
because during my sledgehammer scene, set under the
bridge, I have used high-key lighting due to the time of
day in which I filmed this sequence as I wanted it to be
very clear to the audience as to what was happening in
these shots. Whereas when my actors are back inside I
have used low-key lighting to makes the locations that I
used more eerie to reflect the rock genre of my music
video more. I think that the contrast between the low-
key and high-key lighting shots works very well
together because it helps split up the locations more
easily and helps the audience keep track of what is
happening in the music video more, because they are
able to associate a type of lighting with what is
happening on screen. I was unsure on how I wanted to
film my music video so the audience feedback that I
received off this question helped me decide what to do
and I think that this has worked well in my music video.
I particularly liked this response that I
received off someone for this question.
This is because it is what I had in mind
when planning my music video so it was
quite supportive knowing that someone
had the same idea as me because it
shows that it will match my song well.
Plus I wanted an abstract music video
which is also what this person has said.
The audience feedback that I got off
this person was very helpful for me
when planning my music video because
I have included my actor and actress lip-
syncing in my music video and my
music video it quite abstract as there is
no direct narrative of it.
This comment that I received off the same question as shown on the
previous slide, says about my actors wearing leather jackets as this is
iconographic of the rock genre. So I made my actress wear a leather jacket
with studs and fur on it to match the rock genre a much as I could.
I took inspiration from this comment as this person suggested that things should be
smashed on the floor and I developed this by smashing aTV in my music video, which
I think turned out to be very successful. This person also suggested filming it in an
abandoned location and three of the locations that I used were inside an abandoned
empty house and the other was under a bridge that was covered in graffiti. This
shows that I have listened to this persons advice and I think that it has paid off .
I created a survey based on my first draft of my digipak so that I got some audience
feedback on what went well and what could be improved etc.The first question that I
asked was on how effective my digipak is. Looking at the table above, on average most
people rated it a 5 or 6 out of 10.This shows that there are some elements to my digipak
that make it effective but there are also ways in which it an be improved to make it more
effective.
For my next question I asked if it was clear that it was a digipak and all fifteen people who
answered said yes. This shows that it is very clear what the form of this product is which
shows that it is successful in the aims of my product. This audience feedback was very
helpful for me because it made me aware that the audience can easily tell what it is.
The results from this question were very good because
the song that I picked was a pop song and I decided to
make my music video in a rock genre to challenge the
conventions of music videos, and according to these
results 4 people thought the genre was pop and 5 people
thought that the genre was rock. This shows that the
genre of my music video is clear in my digipak to the
audience. However, 4 people also thought the genre was
indie which doesn’t match the genre of my music video.
Although, from seeing this I can understand how the
audience thinks this due to the colour scheme I have
used. Therefore this audience feedback was very helpful
to me because it made me aware of other possible
genres that the audience may confuse my digipak with
and now I can think about altering my digipak in order to
remove this genre label away from my digipak.
This question was very helpful for my audience
feedback because it gave me direct feedback off
individuals on what they liked best about my
digipak. Looking at the comments in this image,
a lot of people said that they particularly liked
the font that I used, the colour scheme, photography and the effect used on the front cover. I
am very pleased with these comments that the audience have given me because I have learnt
that there are a lot of successful elements to my music video.
Here are some more comments from the same
question and here the main comments made are
about: the font, photography, front cover effect,
the back page and that it is conventional. From
these comments I have learnt that people have
different opinions on what they think is effective and not but most people agree on the
strongest elements of my digipak. This lets me know which parts stand out against the rest and
it also lets me know whether certain parts of my digipak work or not.
This question was very useful for audience
feedback as it gave me advice on how I can
improve my digipak to make it look more
effective. Some of the improvements made on
this image were: less text, improved quality of
fonts and images and changing the names of the
artists to make it more original. I think that all of these comments are valid although some of
these I cannot change as I am unable to retake the images as I don’t have access to this location
anymore. Although I will make some of the changes such as the quality of the text and perhaps
changing the name of the artists.
Here are some more improvements that I can
make to my digipak such as: improved font
quality, more colour, different variety of fonts,
improved picture quality and the mise-en-scene
of my male actor. These are generally the same
comments as the previous slide the only advice I
could take on is adding more colour to it.All of these comments have been very useful for my
digipak and I have learnt that people share the same ideas on what could be improved and that
some people don’t think that anything can be improved, which has shown me that my digpak
must be effective and successful towards some people.
I created a survey based on my first draft of my magazine advert so that I could get some
audience feedback on what went well and what could be improved etc.The first question that I
asked was on how effective my magazine advert is. Looking at the table above, on average
most people rated it a 4 or 5 out of 10.This shows that there are some elements to my
magazine advert that makes it effective but there are also ways in which it an be improved to
make it more effective.
For my next question I asked if it was clear that it was a magazine advert and most people who
answered said yes. This shows that it is clear what the form of this product is which shows that
it is successful in reaching the aims of my product. This audience feedback was very helpful for
me because it made me aware that the audience can easily tell what it is.
The results from this question were quite good because the song that I picked was a pop song and I decided
to make my music video in a rock genre to challenge the conventions of music videos, and according to
these results 6 people thought the genre was pop and 6 people thought that the genre was rock. This shows
that the genre of my music video is clear in my magazine advert to the audience. However, 8 people also
thought the genre was indie which doesn’t match the genre of my music video. Although, from seeing this I
can understand how the audience thinks this due to the grey colours I have used. Therefore this audience
feedback was very helpful to me because it made me aware of other possible genres that the audience may
confuse my magazine advert with and now I can think about altering my magazine advert in order to
remove this genre label away it.
This question was very helpful for my audience feedback because it gave me direct feedback
off individuals on what they liked best about my magazine advert. Looking at the comments in
this image, people said that they liked: the image I used, the logos at the bottom, colour
scheme, fonts and location. I am pleased with these comments that the audience have given
me because I have learnt that there are a lot of successful elements to my music video.
Here are some more comments from the same question and here the main comments made
are about: the font, framing of the image, location, colour scheme and the layout of my
magazine advert. From these comments I have learnt that people have different opinions on
what they think is effective and not but most people agree on the strongest elements of my
magazine advert. This lets me know which parts stand out against the rest and it also lets me
know whether certain parts of my magazine advert work or not.
These are the last few comments from the same question. Some of the different comments
made on this images are that: there isn’t much text, the quotes, the title been over and
underlined and the image of the album cover. This shows a lot more comments on the public’s
opinions on what they think is best on my magazine advert.
This question was very useful for audience feedback as it gave me advice on how I can improve
my magazine advert in order to make it look more effective. Some of the improvements made
on this image were: the image quality and more effective text. Most people have said about the
image quality being bad and I would change this but unfortunately I am unable to retake this
image. I think that these comments are valid and I will try to change the font style of it to make
it more effective.
Here are some more improvements that I can make to my magazine advert such as: different font styles,
more colour and bad picture quality. These are generally the same comments as the previous slide the only
advice I could take on is adding more colour to it and adding more font styles. All of these comments have
been very useful for my magazine advert and I have learnt that people share the same ideas on what could
be improved and that some people don’t think that anything can be improved, which has shown me that
my magazine advert must be effective and successful towards some people.
Overall, I would say that all of the audience feedback that I
received was very helpful and I learnt that some people can
notice ways to improve your work which I didn’t notice or
wouldn’t think about changing, as everyone consumes media
texts in different ways and have their own opinions on them. I
have also learnt that audience feedback is a vital element of my
work as it gives me the audience’s own opinions, and because
they are the consumers of my product it is important that I know
whether they think that it is effective or not. From the feedback
that I received I would say that my media product is effective as
a whole, however there are a lot of ways in which it could be
improved.

Although, from seeing this I can understand how the audience thinks this due to the grey colours I have used. Therefore this audience feedback was very helpful to me because it made me aware of other possible genres that the audience may confuse my magazine advert with and now I can think about altering my magazine advert in order to remove this genre label away it.

Looking at the comments in this image, people said that they liked: the image I used, the logos at the bottom, colour scheme, fonts and location. I am pleased with these comments that the audience have given me because I have learnt that there are a lot of successful elements to my music video.

From these comments I have learnt that people have different opinions on what they think is effective and not but most people agree on the strongest elements of my magazine advert. This lets me know which parts stand out against the rest and it also lets me know whether certain parts of my magazine advert work or not.
  • 20. These are the last few comments from the same question. Some of the different comments made on this images are that: there isn’t much text, the quotes, the title been over and underlined and the image of the album cover. This shows a lot more comments on the public’s opinions on what they think is best on my magazine advert.
  • 21. This question was very useful for audience feedback as it gave me advice on how I can improve my magazine advert in order to make it look more effective. Some of the improvements made on this image were: the image quality and more effective text. Most people have said about the image quality being bad and I would change this but unfortunately I am unable to retake this image. I think that these comments are valid and I will try to change the font style of it to make it more effective.
  • 22. Here are some more improvements that I can make to my magazine advert such as: different font styles, more colour and bad picture quality. These are generally the same comments as the previous slide the only advice I could take on is adding more colour to it and adding more font styles. All of these comments have been very useful for my magazine advert and I have learnt that people share the same ideas on what could be improved and that some people don’t think that anything can be improved, which has shown me that my magazine advert must be effective and successful towards some people.

Overall, I would say that all of the audience feedback that I received was very helpful and I learnt that some people can notice ways to improve your work which I didn’t notice or wouldn’t think about changing, as everyone consumes media texts in different ways and have their own opinions on them. I have also learnt that audience feedback is a vital element of my work as it gives me the audience’s own opinions, and because they are the consumers of my product it is important that I know whether they think that it is effective or not. From the feedback that I received I would say that my media product is effective as a whole, however there are a lot of ways in which it could be improved.
